Nesewdjet-Nedjety [2.18.2013 Epic Reaver Update]

  1. #301
Thanks! I personally don't prefer to base vehicles, kinda seems a bit superfluous, but that's just me. I've finished up three imperial fist thunderhawks over the weekend leading up to the start of my second epic IG infantry company because I'm out of marine sgts and devastator marines and I'm not keen on converting just yet.

Here are the photos! all three are still waiting a good coat of varnish.

Hahaha...nice work on those epic models! The yellow really stands out.

Its nice to see more people painting Imperial Fists!

  6. #306
Thanks y'all Somehow painting up the epic stuff is relaxing. I guess it's the feeling of getting so much of an army painted in so little time. The marines only need about 5 detachments or about 18 stands of troops, and 4 thunderbolts to be finished up to 3500 points. If I had all the models that would be something like another two weeks of painting.

  7. #307
well I finished these up saturday and didn't get the post made, so here is the second epic IG infantry company that will eventually turn into the regimental hq once I get enough chimeras. I've found that epic makes for a quick and pretty useful test bed for techniques, but I'm moving over to finish up three more dauntless light cruisers and a 40k missile trooper for my marines this week.

Over the last week I finished up my 40k marine missile trooper and 3 BFG dauntlesses. Here is the pic of the missile trooper, the dauntlesses are still waiting for photos while this guy waits to be sealed.

EDIT: here are the dauntless cruisers

Nice, really liking the posture on the Missile trooper; and I'm still a fan of the chapter's earthy & credible/realistic-looking paint scheme

Thanks! I think I'm down to one tac squad and a couple of 5 man sternguard and honorguard squads before I really have to do the transports and dreads. They ARE on my paint list, but right now it's so much faster to clear out the BFG and Epic portions that are a large chunk of the list of things to do.

That missile marine looks absolutely fantastic. A really really nicely done model/

    Thanks!

I have some bad news. You might be noticing that the images in this thread aren't loading. Well my webhost seems to have died without warning or for some reason I get a 502 error whenever I attempt to connect the last week or so and tech support is unresponsive. I'm in the process of switching services to a different company but it does mean that I've lost all of the images posted in this thread. If any of you have any of them around, PM me so I can upload to the new service and the the links repaired.

I just checked my browser cache, but unfortunately I don't have any of your images still stored - I cleaned it out fairly recently. I'd suggest to other folks, though, to check your hard drives in > Documents and Settings > Owner > Local Settings > Temporary Internet Files and order it in "Details" View by Internet Address and try poking through saved image files from http:/www.digitalequinox.com/, which is/was Vaaish's hosting site.

Between the regular viewers of this thread and folks who never clean out their browser cache, we ought to be able to come up with a reasonable number of old pics, hmm?

  14. #314
I've gotten a trickle form here and there, but not a lot so far. The new server is up though so I'm back in business. I'll update in a bit with the new stuff.

  15. #315
vaaish, i really really really like your color scheme. it makes it seem so realistic, and your painting is excellent. good work

  16. #316
Thanks, Unfortunately most of the images are gone for the time being. I guess I'll just have to see about re-photographing them.

In other news since the site has been acting up, I've finished up 6 epic scale bassilisks and a kitbash of a vanquisher turret and a ragnrok siege tank (from epic) hull. Too bad they don't make those at 40k scale.

  17. #317
A big thanks to a guy on B&C that had a good number of my older images so you will notice that most of the useful images are back now. I'm still missing the typhoon shot and some of the epic stuff if anyone has that around.

This week I've finished up painting the two reaver titans for epic. I'm pretty pleased overall with how they turned out and I think I'm getting better at this whole decal thing With these done, I think I'll try to move onto a devastator detachment now since I'm leaving for Christmas tuesday night and they should go pretty fast.

    Enjoy!

Every time I see one of those I always think "Damn, those would make nice 40K Dreadnought legs..." Looking good though, the only real suggestion I'd make for them would be to make the undersides of them darker to give a better impression of scale and lighting.

And I still have no idea how 'Nesewdjet-Nedjety' is pronounced

  19. #319
I don't know about using them for dreadnought legs, but I think it would be rather expensive to do it very often. I did a merge to HDR to bring up the brightness of the underside so the detail could be seen. In life the metal there is much darker.

  20. #320
Epic goes pretty quickly so I was able to finish up a marine devastator detachment over the weekend before I leave for the rest of the week for chirstmas. Enjoy!

  21. #321
Well first models of the new year done for me My last detachment of Imperial Fists for epic is now complete waiting for sealing. This army is very nearly complete now. Enjoy!

    Next up, epic thunderbolts.

lol! Epic marines look like the Guerilla Chaos warriors of 5th ed!
Just because you even attempted to paint fists on their weedyness, you get my thumbs up.

  23. #323
Thanks, I guess Continuing the massive epic endemic I seem to be having, here are 4 thunderbolts I finished up today:

    Set 1:

    Set 2

Have no fear, another squad of 10 AOBR marines augmented by a multipart sgt, heavy weapons, and special weapons are on the way next.

  24. #324
Yay! I really like the look of the epic thunderbolts, the green does a great job of just popping out and complementing the rest of the fighter.

  25. #325
I've finished up 8 epic sentinels and I decided to try taking a bit more time and effort into these since they didn't have to be done until the end of the month. I'm pretty happy with the result. I've also basecoated my next tactical squad for 40k and I've only got 8 stands of terminators to go before I complete my epic marine army! It's going to be a busy couple of months here!

Mount a servo skull on those legs and they'd make great little familliars...

  28. #328
That would be quite funny to see a little skull on legs

  29. #329
I've finished the first of my two terminator detachments tonight, this leave me with just one to go before my 3500 point epic marine army is complete. I've also started in on basecoating my final 40k tactical squad. Nearly down to vehicles for my 40k army now.

    and a beauty shot:

There is simply no such thing as 'too many Terminators'. And now, with these excellent shots, you've shown me the way in terms of how many Plague Terminators I now have to make

Any chance of a pic of all your Epic stuff together? Bearing in mind the tininess of it all, it all looks pretty sweet to me so far.

  31. #331
Thanks! All things considered there will be another 4 stands of those terminators to join them next week. Once those are done then I'll take a pic of the entire marine force and I might add in a few of the titans to boost it up near 5k.

I keep forgetting to put something in there to show scale, but for reference, each terminator in there is about the size of a 40k marine's head.

Bloody hell...I didn't realise they were that tiny. Impressive.

  33. #333
Yup, those 6mm scale models are wee tiny things. I have an Imperator Titan that is about the size of a 40k Sentinel. The Sentinels here are, what would you say Vaaish, about knee high on a Marine? A Marine would be about Warhound height. Wee tiny things.

Good work on these; I'm enjoying the updates.

  34. #334
Close, the sentinels are about waist high on a marine and a warhound is a bit taller depending on pose.

  35. #335
Looking awesome! Jeez, i didn't realise that they were that small! Can't wait to see a full army shot

  36. #336
yeah they are pretty tiny. I got the second detachment of terminators finished tonight completing my 3500 point SM epic army. I'll try to take a better pic later but here are the shots of the terminators and the full army:

Wicked Army lots of land Raiders and Nice Thunder Hawks. Could you be able to make army pics of both your Warhammer 40K, Epic and BFG because that would be awsome.

  38. #338
Well BFG perhaps soon. I really need to finish 5 more ships. 40k I'll take after I finish up the tactical squad thats slated for work this week. I'll be slowing down somewhat because of my grad class and another project, but I hope to finish the tactical squad in a couple of weeks.

In the mean time, here is a much better version of the army shot with two reaver titans included to bump it up to 5k points.

here is a link to the high res version:

  39. #339
a small update with my 40k marines. Because the AoBR marines have the large tactical insignias, I've decided to make these marines part of the I'ahkeb companies which gives them a black helmet with a green stripe. I'm somewhat one the fence about how it looks and I'm tempted to just give them solid black helmets and black weapons casings with a green stripe on them instead so I'm posting this wip guy to get a little feedback before I try to finish up the first 6 guys tonight.

  40. #340
Not too sure about the green stripe on the helmet, but the gun certainly looks very cool. I really like the color scheme you've used on these marines, and the green does match very well.

Good to see some more WIP on the 40k marines.

If that's the weapon casing style you'd be going with for the new division(?) of your troops, I think it looks good. The helmets with the green down the middle I'm not too sold on for some reason.

One other idea, though - I think they might look pretty cool if you painted the helmets all black except for the "inset" part surrounding the eyes/face/mouthpiece. That's where I think the current black doesn't do the eyes or the nearby metallics justice and the different color might.

I like the black helmets, but I think the green would look better somewhere else on the model.
Tinweasel's idea about painting the facemask green might look good.

Thanks Tin, the weapon casing in the pic is the same as the rest of my army. I ended up not making any changes to that. Personally I usually dislike making the inset coloration different from the rest of the helmet and after finishing up the backpacks and mulling over this for awhile I think I'm going to leave the stripe.

My reasoning is that my chapter usually shows things like veteran status by painting the stripe on the helmet so this maintains consistency and second because after painting the backpack in the same style as the rest of my army, the green needs to be on the helmet crest in order to link the weapon casing and the backpack while providing balance to the model.

In looking at it this morning with fresh eyes, the stripe doesn't seem so "off" - I did notice that the backpack was unpainted to begin with, so I suppose finishing that made a world of difference.

As to your quote, the emphasized portion is really what you want to be aiming for, anyhow, in my opinion - if you've got that, then carry on... 8^)

Epic Titans look ace. We need to have another go but with vehicles this time.

  46. #346
Thanks Ira, and yes we do need to try for another go with the vehicles this time.

I've finished up the first 6 of my last tactical squad from the I'ahkeb companies of my chapter. They just need to be sealed tomorrow and then I think I'll be back to a couple of forgeworld epic warhounds before the last 4 guys get finished.

The sergeant looks incredible and the colors are, once again, breathtaking. It really is nice to just look at your models.

    The bronze is fantastic too.

And back to epic: two forgeworld warhound titans.. quite fun! This is my first experience with Forge World. Had to get them to resend because of a miscast on one of the carapaces. Now if my baneblade pack will get in.

I got commission for a sizable amount of epic marines to paint up like my own fist army so there will be several updates including these as the year progresses. This time it's 10 epic speeders.

  50. #350
YAY! I always look forward to your Epic updates. Any chance for some close up shots?
