Actually, I may well start work on the Nurgle Obliterator I have planned, next...just for a change from the Terminator production line.

They look freaking sweet. Just out of interest how do they compare to regular Terminators in terms of size? It may be the close photos but they look huge.
They go up to about 2-3mm taller and wider than normal Terminators, owing to the spacers I've put at the waist and shoulder joints on most of them; they're way bulkier and more massive than most Terminators, but only a couple of millimetres taller or wider. A lot of the GS work is intended to add bulk rather than actual height or width; as much as anything else, I wanted them to be practical to transport.
Wow Svart, you truly are a GS God. All of them look fantastic, I espcially like the little conversion for Ganglia's chainfist, it's down right awesome. Keep up the amazing work, can't wait to see these guys painted.
P.S. About how long does it take you to do all the GS work for one of these guys?

"About how long does it take you to do all the GS work for one of these guys?"
You know, I've never actually timed myself...has to be a good few hours of actual application + sculpting time per model, though, especially since I've been layering different GS textures on them to give a real sense of depth to the model's surface detail so have had to allow drying time for each layer...which is the main reason it's been almost two weeks since my last proper army update, these babies are very time-intensive.

Is there anything left to say? Perhaps we should shut you and Tin up somewhere; you sculpt and he paints his wonderful fleshy tones.
One thing, though: Give Club's mouth-kneepad some love/vomit.
"One thing, though: Give Club's mouth-kneepad some love/vomit"
I've been umming and ahhing about this for a while; it's a tempting idea, but I ended up deciding not to as I thought if goop was vomiting out of the mouths it would make them look more like Gothic gargoyles and I didn't want that for their knees. Even a little trail of drool would look odd - a little too Daemon-y, if that makes sense, making the stylised snarling mouth on the armour into a real mouth as opposed to decoration on a set of workmanlike Terminator armour. I will almost certainly do that for any Possessed I do in Terminator armour that has the mouths on the kneeepads, though.
Oh, and *blush* at the compliment. Thank you.

Wow, just zipping through this thread for the first time, awesome stuff. They remind me of the Flying Dutchman crewman on Pirates of the Carribean, especially the last termie. Hangin' to see em' painted.
nice to see you again, BENNII!
Is that ever strange. My brother said the exact same thing, and we just watched At World's End two nights ago.
See, now I have this mental picture of a Plague Terminator with a tricorn hat on, a wooden leg and a Nurgling perched on his shoulder, parrot-style...![]()
Do it then. And a tentacle beard!![]()

hows your termy for the comp' going???
Surely that should be "...and party every day"..?The comp termie's coming on...slowly...I'm under no delusions as to my current painting ability, I'm mainly entering for the hell of it and for the whole 'taking part' community thing

haha ok... um yeh i got it wrong because of the smilies singing The Chilis to me... check out systemdxwner's thread and you'll under stand
I spent quite some time with the Daemon Prince model last night, trying to get a handle on how to make it into a Nurgle Obliterator...and inspiration was not forthcoming. So, instead I did a bunch of work on the Sorceror model; I was pleased with him when I did him, but I think my GS work has gotten better, more ambitious and more confident since then so I'm updating & upgrading the conversion work on him to be at the same standard as the Terminators. I'm intending for him to have a sort of 'high-tech shaman of Nurgle' look, visually...everything and the kitchen sink, lots of adornments and symbols etc.
On the same note, I'm seriously tempted to start work on entirely new squads of Plague Marines, using plastic ones and converting them to the same level as the Terminators. One thing I learned from years of recording music was when to admit that something you've done isn't as good as it could be; I looked at some of the first pages in this thread, and I don't think my early models stand up next to what I'm doing now.
A combination of seeing the upcoming Forge World Death Guard upgrade kits and seeing Galorn2's very nice plastic Plague Marines got me thinking about this - I'd like all my army to be at the same standard as my Terminators and Chosen, and I don't think those first metal models of mine are up to scratch, basically (with one or two exceptions, such as Guts-Hanging-Out Guy). Good as the FW upgrade parts undoubtedly are, I would much rather do my own converting than use off-the-peg upgrade parts...but it did give me a kick up the behind as to the quality of my standard PMs. In the end, I can see myself using my early metal models as Chaos Marines with the Mark Of Nurgle, and the prospective newer plastic conversions as full-on Death Guard.
That's it. I'm buying shares in the company that makes Green Stuff![]()

i think taking the metals as mark of nurgles sounds like a good plan since your gs skills have been steadily improving
and definitely invest stock
how much do you spend on GS?
Woah, these are bloody awesome! Your tutorial sparked my Nurgle interest, and this has done nothing but bolster it!
And make me feel sad because your models are so awesome, and i suck at painting![]()
Thanks for the compliment Svart. Your Termies are awe inspiring to me and are actually what inspired me to convert the plastic marines to begin with. so in a way it has come full circle.
"so in a way it has come full circle"
*goes back to working on Stumpy's big brother*
Just top prove that I do at least own some paint, here's Ganglia and Reaper primed at last...tonight I'll get all the drybrushing and hopefully the basic metals done on Ganglia. I'm not sure whether to make a separate 'competition blog' thread for Ganglia, him being my comp entry and all, or just use this one...
I think I've worked out why I like to see models primed like this - it's the first time you get to see how well your conversion bits mesh with the rest of the model, now that there isn't the obvious colour differentiation between the GS and the plastic (or metal). And for models that have involved as much conversion/GS work as these, it's doubly satisfying.
Right. Enough talk. Back to the painting.
While working on the competition entry, I got inspired again; I had so much fun making Stumpy that I'd been wanting to make another short model for a while...so here's Stumpy's big brother - Pustule, the Pygmy Plague Terminator. The GS work isn't completely finished on him yet, but meh - he's still cute
And for height comparison, here's him by one of my regular Terminators:
...I guess I'll have to try making a skinny one next![]()
That looks freakin awesome but something jumped out at me, it looks like he's pigeon toed because one foot is on a slant. Either than that he is the cutest plague terminator of doom ive ever seen![]()
You know, I'd actually not noticed that until I saw it in the picture; I know it was a bugger to get the lower leg securely back on after removing the part I cut out to reduce his height, guess I didn't get it perfectly flat to the floor.
Ah, well, nothing a little GS won't cure
EDIT: made him a new - rotting - foot out of GS.
Can't be pigeon-toed when he doesn't have any toes left![]()

See, when I get back from work in a bit I was planning on trying a Nurgle Spawn or two after doing the next few bits of painting I need to do for the competition...but now you've got me thinking...

heh - if I wasn't a poor student I'd pay to have Tinweasel or Mr. Justin paint that for you...

If you can do with paint what you did for your GS, then I don't think that would be necessary.Originally Posted by Svartmetall

Dammit! Now I'm hooked! I've been sitting here writing down ideas for more pygmy Nurgle conversions (and a couple of big ones too, of course...Plague Ogre Havoc, anyone?). To-do lists...gah...it's almost like being organised, or something. It started with the painting to-do list for the competition Terminator, and now it's becoming a habit.
Svart, could you post any pics of a completed model? so we can see what the overall colour scheme is. Or if you don't have a finished one then the nearest would be nice.
Beware The Shadows.
I'm hoping to get the skin done on the competition-entry Terminator during the course of this evening, so hopefully some pics of an almost-there colour scheme will be up by the end of tonight. Ish. It's turned out to be one of those weeks where everything takes about twice as long as I'd hoped it would, leaving less time for modelling than I'd have liked...
Pics of the fully-painted Ganglia are in the competition entry thread, but here are three finished Terminator faces:
Being unable to decide on a skin colour scheme I like has actually been one of the biggest things stopping me making more progress when it comes to painting, along with a general lack of confidence in my painting abilities; but now I think I've found a Nurgle skin scheme that works, things should move faster now on the painting front. I've updated the Nurgle 101 tutorial with a step-by-step painting guide for this skin, if anyone's interested...I'd welcome any feedback on the colours/brushwork for these faces, as painting still feels very new to me.
EDIT: Looking at him in work, and having had a break from the painting table, I'm pleased with the way the one on the right reminds me of the 'Butterball' Cenobite from 'Hellraiser'...that was kind of the idea with his face, and it's nice to see it come to fruition![]()

I'm actually champing at the bit to go home and paint a bunch more of the Terminators' faces tonight, now...I spent a lot of time GSing in the faces to make them look interesting, and now I have a paint scheme I'm happy with I'm dying to see how they come out.
Finally finished the GS work on Kothaar The Putrescent, my Lord - even if this guy is kind of a stand-in for the final conversion I have in mind...
I'm particularly liking the way the Giger-esque buboes and tumours have come out
He's been a hell of a lot of work, perhaps the most GS work I've done on any single model yet, but looking at him now I think it's been worth it.

Some of this work is veeeeery nice how do you get the GS in such shapes and textures do you use any tools?
"do you use any tools"
posting from work
Currently, my main sculpting tools seem to be a scalpel, a couple of wooden cocktail sticks in various stages of spreading out at the tip, my thumb, and a small piece of guitar string. I'm a firm believer in the 'ends justify the means' school of sculpting, i.e. the results are what matter no matter how odd/silly/whatever the tool you employ to get them![]()
Now thats awesome Svart always a pleasure seeing your nurgle guys. Im intrigued to what your " final conversion " entails. Keep us posted on that.

Go back to Page 1 of this thread, and check out post #15 down at the bottom of the page...my Cunning Plan Of Nurgly Lord DoomTM is there![]()
Ah yes the ogryn i remember now, thats going to be an interesting conversion. Looking forward to the day you reveal him.
posting from work
The thing is, I came up with that plan like 6 months ago, when I'd just started out assembling my army; I bought the Ogryn model back then because it looked Nurgly and I never thought I'd be able to get that sort of look myself. Nowadays I feel so much more confident in my modelling and sculpting abilities that I'm increasingly tempted to not cling so much to that original plan, but just go ahead and build my final Lord conversion from the Terminator Lord model and convert & GS him to hell and back*As much as anything else, I'd prefer to work with plastic than resin; also the pose on the Ogryn model isn't as convertible as it might be. On a similar note, I'd almost certainly have bought the Forge World Death Guard conversion set back then, whereas now I'd actually rather plough ahead and do them myself...
*EDIT: bear in mind that the Kothaar model above is made from the reclaimed bits of the very first Terminator I assembled, way back before even I went off with depression, and I really like the way he's come out. So I figure if I started out intending to do an all-out no-holds-barred Nurgle Lord Of DoomTM from scratch with a model, I could probably do it quite a bit better![]()

probably the best use for all the bits you used. i have never liked that spawn head before now. and yes the tools used doesnt matter as much as what you have achieved. awesome job.
