happy birthday!
/me sends some nurgle birthday pus
Well, happy birthday!
I have read the whole thread, all 37 pages, and I must say your modelling skills are supperb! I don't even play TT or own novels, and yet I'm drooling all over your awesome models.
If I ever start playing, I'll DEFFINITELY go nurgle, and try my hand at some of that green stuff (what is it btw? mix of glue and plaster or something? how do you make it?)

Viva the Sky King!
Happy Birthday!
@ Mormoran - Green Stuff AKA Kneadatite is a 2-part epoxy modeling putty that is easily shaped, has a set time of about 1-2 1/2 hours, has fairly good "memory," retains some elasticity, and does not shrink when cured.
Happy Birthday one who live in Nurgles entrails
hahawooo.....wait spoken word music at a party.....bad juju my friend lol
"...spoken word music at a party..."
Nah, that was just me at 1 a.m. realising what day it had just become; I listen to a lot of spoken-word stuff when modelling, usually Henry Rollins or Jello Biafra.
Tonight is the party-and-drinking thing![]()
Its been a while since I've dropped by the comment but i LOVE the terminator possessed guy you showed a few pages back! The spawn are coming along very nicely as well.
How long before we can see an updated groupshot?

Thanks for the compliment - by 'group shot', do you mean the army as a whole or one particular unit thereof...?
Maybe two group shots, one with all units that are finished or close to finished, and then one with all other (WIP and projects) along with finished ones, so we can see the whole thing?
Again, awesome job dude, keep it up!
Here's a weird black monster for you![]()
posting from work
I'll see what I can rustle up when I get home tonight, although I just worked out how to do the next stages of green-stuffing on Wolfie this afternoon before I went to work so that may take precedence...if not tonight, I'll certainly try to do a full-army WIP shot tomorrow.
Last edited by Svartmetall; 4th Jun 08 at 11:28 AM.
Didn't manage to get the full army shot done, but I'm kind of pleased with how Wolfie's starting to look after working on his musculature since I got back from work:
Still needs his upper shoulders broadened a tad to balance it all but he's starting to get there now; once the arms are done and the final skin surface texture added I can start working on the venomous tentacles which will dangle from his midsection...![]()
He's looking good svartmetall.
Looking at his pose, I would love to see something like a hornet/mosquito abdomen swinging underneath, with either a huge stinger ( dripping with venom ) or a pair of pincers coming at you.
I'm sure what you have in mind will look great anyway, just my musings.
I'd actually been thinking along the lines of a Portuguese Man O'War's tentacles...they'd drag along behind it as it moved, but once it has gripped on to its prey with its claws it wraps the tentacles around it to poison, dissolve and digest it.
Svartmetall, looking at wolfie again, after your comments..I think he does lend himself a to man o war type undercarriage maybe with a few tentacles pushing forwards, finishing in barbed hooks or stingers ?
Hope to see some more soon.
So there I was, about to start getting the guys together to do the army shot, and I got sort of side-tracked by doing more work on the 'Jaws' Possessed Terminogre...
...but I think it was worth it. He's going to be a hell of a Nurgle Possessed![]()
How big is the TerminOgre compared to a regular terminator? He seems really big![]()
Also, just a random TT question, since every time I see your models I feel like playing the TT game and starting my own army... How many dreadnoughts can you field at the same time? I love those things, they're just too badass!![]()

*wipes sweat from brow*
OK, not ultimate mega picture quality of doom (need to get more acquainted with my camera's non-macro functions for that), but what the hell...by popular demand, here are the massed ranks of my Nurgle army as it stands at the moment.
Plague Marines
Havocs
The Chosen of Nurgle
Lord Kothaar The Putrescent
Terminators
More Terminators
Spawn
More Spawn
And finally, the Unfinished of Nurgle
![]()
thats sick man. im jealous
after reading mormoran's question, i'm convinced you absolutely MUST make a nurgle dreadnought... just think about it, it's a warrior that can no longer fight effectively, and there are a lot of nurgly things that could end up doing that without necessarily turning a marine into a spawn... nice army shot BTW
I'm short and misanthropic. I'll bite your nipples off.
Mormoran you can field 3 elite choices in a standard game, but for apocalypse there's no limit

Quick update - I seem to've dropped into Green Stuff Mode again. I said a while back that I wanted to improve the GS work on the Terminator Champion because I wasn't quite happy with the end result, so here he is with improved GSing:
Looking more Nurgly now by far, and he also fits in better with the rest of the Terminators.
Also here's Jaws with arms; the Ogre gauntlet is just blue-tacked on for now while I work out whether I'm going with it as his right hand, but I think I probably will, it suits him:
Still haven't been able to make my mind up about a head for Jaws yet, though...
Last edited by Svartmetall; 7th Jun 08 at 8:55 AM.
i think he looks good with no head, or alternatively paint the bulbous looking bit as an eye
whatever you do it'll be great, and i love the GS work!!
And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers.
And you will know I am the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you.
Might i suggets leaving jaws with no head, giving him mandibles or horns coming out of the bulbous bit, and then turn his man boobs into eyes?
He'll look like a Chaos Pinsir :P

"...leaving Jaws with no head, giving him mandibles or horns coming out of the bulbous bit, and then turn his man boobs into eyes?"
To be honest I think that'd look too Spawn-esque for him, he is a Possessed after all; as such I think he needs some kind of head, and given the mouth in his gut I'm thinking of a head with either no mouth or at least a mouth that's rotted and decomposing way past the point of uselessness. I've been sketching away on stuff for him, since I like the gut-mouth so much I don't want to cock it up at this point with a head that's not up to scratch.
Erm, who's Pinsir, by the way? Not seen that character before...
At least, having stared at it for a bit here in work, I've now definitely decided on keeping the Ogre gauntlet for his right hand![]()
I take it you would be using an open head then? I think a CSM helmet might work well, if you show it damaged and destroyed to the point where his head becomes vesitgal.
And Pinsir is a Pokemon. Having played the hell out of those games, Pinsir was the first thing that came ot my mind when I saw your Jaws...
pinsirs a pokemon!
I'd say that you dont need a body. So just make it one big head! it would look funny in a cool way!

or gs a face in the bulbous bit, that's give you a lot of conversion room without making him too spawn like.

"or gs a face in the bulbous bit..."
I had contemplated that; I'm not sure my GS skills are up to completely scratch-building a credible face yet. I guess I could do a practice run on a bit of sprue or something, or even a Spawn...hmm. Might try that when I get home.
Somewhere in the Hordes Of Chaos army book is a sketch of a Chaos Warrior or Marauder whose helm's faceplate is a sheet of metal with holes perforated in it to let him breathe; I've been thinking along the lines of a similarly-perforated plate that covers the lower half of the face, with the remnants of the mouth hanging & dripping down beneath it in a suitably disgusting fashion, and eyes visible above it and probably a Plaguebearer-type horn. Maybe some augmetic cabling running into the sides of the faceplate and the goop around the back of the neck area...
How does that idea sound..? To go with it I'm thinking of some kind of armour-plate pauldron on the right shoulder to match the gauntlet (or possibly a normal Terminator shoulderpad), and a weird 3D Nurgle icon thingy growing out of the left shoulder.
Heres a tought, make his head molded with his body, with an agonizing look on his face, only the upper part of the head would be intact(more or less) and the bottom would be a giant piece of flesh on some half molten bones and a tongue faling out.![]()

My suggestion would be to do something along the lines of using an ogre head with its mouth removed/sewn up and it having a single bulbous eye, or three smaller ones arranged in the way of the nurgle symbol.
I have to say, your work so far is superbly done. Keep it up![]()
Oh, oh, oh!!!!
Brainstorm, make his head a burnt up half molten skull, to indicate that he was heavily wounded in battle and could not survive if it wasn't for Nurgles "gifts" that gave him a second "mouth" to allow him to breathe and feed![]()

I like the idea of the 3 eyes in the Nurgle-icon pattern, and I'd be tempted to use that on Jaws...if I hadn't already been set on using that for Foulspawn. Most of the Ogre heads look too...Ogre-y...though with a rotted-off mouth and a horn maybe that would work. Trouble is I've already used an Ogre head modified to have just one eye on the 'Vet' Spawn, and I don't want to start recycling ideas already.
Hmm. I shall experiment when I get back home later tonight.
Dude! A head coming out of the mouth of another head!
posting from work
Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm already using that idea for another Spawn (or possibly Possessed) inspired by a Hieronymus Bosch painting...Bosch is great inspiration for weird creatures, I highly recommend his stuff.

Why even bother with eyes and something resembling a face? I'd say either go the soulless metal mask approach (maybe like the muscular, faceless leader of the outlaws in The Road Warrior - "Humungous" or something?) or just omit anything resembling a face entirely and maybe just sculpt flaring, snottery nostrils a la The Pale Man from Pan's Labyrinth or the Waynhim/Demondim from the Donaldson's Thomas Covenant books. Both excellent sources of grotesqueries... but the Spawn no longer needs eyes because he has other senses.

Yay for someone else who's heard of the Waynhim/Demondim (I still think Vain would look SO cool on film)...but, this guy's a Possessed, not a Spawn. As such, I don't think his mutations should be as severe as a Spawn would have; fluff-wise, in the hybrid entity that is a Possessed the Chaos Marine is supposed to maintain overall control in the Daemon/Marine relationship, so I think he needs at least the eyes part of a face visible to maintain that sense of a controlling personality behind it all.
Once again...I may have thought about this too much![]()
Quick update - while I know I'm supposed to be working on the Spawn unit for Hammerguard's competition at the moment, I got overtaken with sculptural inspiration early today and have been beavering away at the green-stuffing on a few older & unfinished minis*. So here's the current state of play on....
The Terminogre (now with a weapon, an arse, more bodyfat, and Nurgly boils'n'buboes):
The 'mongrel' Possessed:
The Sorceror of Nurgle (I've neglected him for ages, but he's almost done now apart from a couple of buboes and his Manreaper):
And finally the latest state of play on Jaws - with arms and improved green-stuffing:
I am really fucking pleased with the sculpting on this mini...
* quite possibly prompted by taking the Unfinished Of Nurgle photo for the army shots....

Svart man the Jaws scuplting is awesome, the detail is superb. Complete him, cast and reproduce him because i want one for my nurgle guys![]()
Do I ever feel too old to play 40K?.......Nah.
Growing old is inevitable.
Growing up is optional
Aessar - "Threads, unlike Necrons, aren't supposed to rise from their graves."
I think that you should just leave Jaws as he is (but painted of course) and just have a very smooth, rounded neck with no head at all (as he/it has now). If you wanted eyes maybe sculpt them in around the muscles in his neck, or just use the eyes that come with the spawn and shave them down as you deem necessary to get a good fit?
FREEEEM
That us an awesome sculpting job. im gonnayou until you get those bad boys painted.

Jaws is certainly looking very impressive - some excellent sculpting there, both front and back.
As to the head... they say a picture's worth 1,000 words, here's an image I found on Wikipedia:
Suggested it earlier and still think something like this would be perfect, maybe with fewer holes and more angular shaping - like a Roman-style gladiatorial helmet/mask, maybe. I think the "bald, sutured scalp" is a definite, though.
"Lord Humungous", the leader of the vicious gang, inspires fear with his "bald, sutured scalp", bulging muscles, and hockey goalies' mask
posting from work
Thanks for the photo, now I see him I know the one you meant. That's 'Mad Max 2', as I recall...I've been staring at some of the spare headpieces from the Defiler sprue and the picture of Korpus Festerheart* from the Hordes Of Chaos army book and this afternoon a plan formed in my head...I'm pretty much set now on using the almost Terminator-looking mask-like headplate from the Defiler sprue, stick a horn onto the mask itself then have 'orribly deformed flesh/scalp and stuff beneath and behind it.
So it's kind of like your idea. Ish.
* which is pretty much the picture that got me interested in Nurgle in the first place, purely on aesthetic grounds and long before I ever thought of making an army of my own...
Quick bijou update-ette - after a million years (no, really, a MILLION YEARS) I've finally finished work on the Sorceror of Nurgle that had been languishing for so long on my shelf.
Here's the bubonic blighter in all his glory:
Looking forward to getting this guy painted now; to my mind a Sorceror of Nurgle would be kind of a shaman of disease, so he has the bling-bling gear...hence the Manreaper and the skull-festooned storm bolter. I think the triple-head will be a challenge for me to paint, too...
EDIT: And I'm off to another live roleplay event tomorrow, so I'll be back, bruised & battered, in a few days' time.

nice sorcerer, man!
as for jaws, i've just had an idea. if you have the sabbat crusade background book, look up in one of the last pages the picture of magister sek(i think it's also somewhere in the 40k artbook).
Haven't got or seen that book, sorry - do you have a scan of or a link to the pic anywhere?
man your sick at this on a side note whats the skull from that is on the top right of his head.
Its a trophy
Its looks awsome, I can't wait to see it painted!
