Jaws is very good, I'm looking forwards to seeing him finished.

Oooo...OK, he's nice (and actually quite Hieronymus Bosch-like). Thanks for posting that; I'm not actually sure whether he'll be what I go for with Jaws himself, but it's certainly giving me ideas for other Nurgle conversions.

Hmm. If I combined the top half of that head with a steel mask like Lord Humungous's, and added the rotted remnants of his old mouth underneath melding with the flesh of his torso...that could work. It'd be tricky to get right, but worth it. And Jaws has been an exercise in pushing my GSing abilities from the start anyway, so what the hell.

I had planned to do some sculpting tonight after getting back from the field, but I'm too knackered to be up to much other than checking forums and chilling out before finally getting a full night's sleep.

Quick update - here's the state of play with 2 of the 3 Spawn for Hammerguard's competition...

    Rhino:

    ...note the soft white underbelly.

    Vet:

And I've finished construction on the first Terminogre:

...one little touch I like is the worm poking out of the right eye of the gut-plate, like the first signs of true Nurgly corruption starting to show on him.

...aaand I've finished the green-stuffing on the back of Jaws:

...I'm pleased with the rolls of flab on there, he looks suitably bloated and corpulent for one of the favoured of Nurgle.

do you have any of the new washes Svart?

if you do I would recommend using the devlan mud on the white all over the rhino.. it would create a great effect imo

But then...when I see your nurgle, they arent normal oh i got a pimple on my shoulderpad nurgle. They are like... Im going to strangle you with my small intestine nurgle. Very impressive bro, i like. And that termiorge made me shit my pants. good stuff.

if i might make a suggestion, extend the middle fold of fat on jaws' back a bit, since right now it kinda looks like a belt, but that's just nitpicking . awesome modelling, as always.

Just looking at these models I fear I've contracted some sort of vile plague...

Nurgle forces didn't really catch my eye before I saw these guys, these truly represent the blighted power of Papa Nurgle!Your modeling skills are most impressive sir and I think my favorite(Completed)model is that possessed looking Terminator with a pair of "Lighting claws"

It really is a labor of love, and it shows in your work.Good job with that sorcerer can't wait to see how he looks painted. After seeing these i'm getting the urge to add on a unit of nurgles to my Slaanesh army(But their going to have to shower if they want to party with em :P)Just out of curiousity what do you use to sculpt the putty?I can't seem to get that down just yet

Currently my main sculpting tools are a scalpel and a selection of wooden coctail sticks in various stages of usage - the tips of them tend to spread out with use which gives me a range of different tip widths.

Here's where I've gotten to so far with the 3 Spawn for Hammerguard's painting competition; been slowed so far by a succession of live roleplay events, but now I'm back and ready to make some serious progress on these guys. Er, things. Whatever.

    Spiny:

    Rhino:

    ...and Vet:

I think I've now - finally - got a decent base colouration on all 3 of these; now it's time to get to work on highlighting and stuff. More, as they say, when I have it...

    "bunny-spawn?"

By Nurgle's fetid codpiece, there's an idea!

EDIT: here's how the new GS work I added to the Terminator Champion looks when basecoated in...

...I think he blends in much better now with the rest of the Terminator unit (squad 'Plaguewielder'), as well just flat out looking more Nurgly.

Hey Svart (hope this doesn't distract you too much) I thought I'd just drop in and post a link to some of the Forgeworld Death Guard terminations that have been painted. Just in case you wanted to see what other poeple are doing with their nurgleness.

I do think the Death Guard conversion kits are easily the best ones FW have produced to date; the painting on those is decent enough, though the colour scheme doesn't seem to aim in any one particular direction, if you know what I mean? Also, while I think there's definitely a tendency among Nurgle modellers to over-decay weaponry and make it look like a solid lump of non-functional rust, I'd say the weapons on those ones aren't rusty enough...

Made up a compilation shot to show what I mean about the rust on weapons, and also to a degree about the colour scheme on the FW mini being a bit...unfocused.

Looks like the colours are staying consistent across units and stuff...

...I touched up and lightened up the original Guts-Hanging-Out mini, and he fits in way better now.

It's actually rippled flesh, not hair, but I know what you mean; from some angles it can look like a blond mullet. Maybe he should teleport onto the battlefield to the sound of a dramatic powerchord or something

Actually I think a Blonde Mullet would be hillarious for a Nurgly Terminator.

I can just imagine him trying to hit on some Daeomonettes on his weekends...

"Hey baby, you wanna Rock Out to some Death Guard Metal?"

"Ewww, you stink...Get away from me!"

So he tells his friends he scored on the weekend with a "really hot chick", but he lost her phone number so he can't introduce them to her.

Quick update - here's where I am right now with Vet, quite a bit more work done on him. I seem to be getting the hang of wet blending, which sort of happened by accident but so far feels quite natural to me; I do like the repulsive tongue...

I almost pulled out of the squad-painting competition last night when I started to panic about how far behind everyone else I seem to be progress-wise, having been away for 10 days of the last two weeks with live roleplay events; currently I'm going to stick with it, but I don't really know if I'll be able to get all 3 of them done in time - especially since I was sort of obliged to move to the Upper tier...I'm all too aware of the standard of painter I'm up against in there...

    *sigh*

As always, all C&C is welcomed.

actually the new washes are perfect for blending transissions between colours.. I am currently doing my own Nurglish project.. My gf had an old Greater Daemon of Nurgle and she let me have it atm I've only painted it with washes over a white basecoat, but there will be real colours on it as well..

    I will post WiPs soon

Ps. I've only painted 1 Destroyer and I doubt I can finish the others in time depending how often I can go paint at Sir. Clausel (also lack of motivation ^^)

  43. #643

I've an image of im stepping forth from his teleportation screaming "Dont break my heart my achey breaky heart".

As always Svart these are looking good, I do like the green you have the spawn. Its a good strong bright green to contrast against the dulled greens used on the marines. Loving the orange tongue on the guy.
Do I ever feel too old to play 40K?.......Nah.

Jopax: "all your possessed have one eye.."

I've only done two Possessed so far, and of those one (Lord Kothaar) has one eye and the other (Mongrel) has two

"...and some of the spawn have only one eye, give them a bit of randomness, two, three, heck five eyes"

Vet and Rhino have one eye; Lefty, Spiny and Wolfie have two eyes, and Fly has three eyes. But I know what you mean about randomness with Spawn, I think I talked about it before myself somewhere in this thread particularly with reference to the way the sprues for supposedly chaotic mutation have two quite similar bipedal torsos. That's one reason I have such things as a three-legged Spawn and a Spawn with no legs and at least three arms in the works at the moment, not forgetting Wolfie who also has no legs but only two arms.

I'm tempted to do a Spawn with 20 eyes just as a Misfits tribute...
*wonders if anyone will get that reference*

Dr.Know: "Oh and how does it feel to have the most viewed post on the forums?"

Is it? Across all the Relicnews forums? I don't know how you'd even check something like that, but then I have only just gotten up, so am still a bit slow; more caffeine, dammit! Like I've said before, I'm still a bit taken aback by how positive so many people's reactions have been; being the author of what appears to be one of the most popular threads around is very flattering

Daaveed: "I do like the green you have the spawn. Its a good strong bright green to contrast against the dulled greens used on the marines. Loving the orange tongue on the guy."

Thanks; I'm kind of treating the Spawn as light relief, in a way, from the organised-military-force-ness of the rest of Pandemic. It's a chance to go a bit more nuts and splurge different palettes of colours around for the hell of it, in the same way as how each Spawn's green-stuffing can be unique to that particular model without having to match that of a unit.

In the same way, I think I'm going to have fun with my Plague Grinder and the Nurgle Obliterators...

That spawn, that, err... "vet" looks bit too bright. It ain't dirty enough to be a nurgle spawn.

I haven't done the putrid bits yet or the decay on the metals; also he's meant to be bright, in the same way as something like a venomous snake or a poisonous frog is brightly-coloured...

I think I've finally worked out a decent large-scale army list for Pandemic; it's based on fluff and flavour far more than optimised min-maxed whatever, but to me it looks pretty solid:

    HQ:

Lord Kothaar the Putrescent - Terminator armour, Mark of Nurgle, personal icon, paired lightning claws
    155 points

Quorthon, Sorceror of Nurgle - Terminator armour, Mark of Nurgle, familiar, Nurgle's Rot, Gift Of Chaos
    185 points

    ELITES:

    1) 10 Terminators, Squad 'Plaguewielder' - Terminator Champion with Reaper autocannon and chainfist; Icon Of Nurgle, 2 pairs of lightning claws, 4 chainfists, 1 heavy flamer
    475 Points

    2) Dreadnought Vvornth - Twin-linked heavy bolters, heavy flamer
    110 Points

    3) 7 Chosen, Squad 'Anthraxus' - Aspiring Champion with paired lightning claws; Icon of Nurgle, lascannon, flamer, 2x meltaguns
    286 points

    TROOPS:

    1) 7 Plague Marines - Plague Champion with power fist; 2 plasma guns, Rhino with Havoc launcher
    281 Points

    2) 7 Plague Marines - Plague Champion with power fist; 2 plasma guns, Rhino with Havoc launcher
    281 Points

    3) 10 Chaos Space Marines, squad 'Forlorn' - Aspiring Champion with combi-melta and power fist; Icon of Nurgle, heavy bolter, flamer, Rhino with Havoc launcher
    315 points

    4) 14 Plaguebearers
    182 points

    FAST ATTACK:

    1) 3 Spawn
    120 points

    2) 3 Spawn
    120 points

    HEAVY SUPPORT:

    1) 7 Havocs, squad 'Plaguehammer' - 1 heavy bolter, 3 missile launchers
    180 Points

    2) Vindicator - Havoc launcher
    140 points

    3) Defiler - twin-linked lascannon
    170 points

I have only two suggestions for your list, if i may add. Drop the las on your chosen for a flamer, and demo possess your vindy. Reason for the chosen, because its more of a moving squad, and reason for the vindy, so you can beef it up with possessed nurgly goodness, and so it can shoot if for some reason it were to be shot at >.> lol. Anywho, it is a solid list, me likey, and your models are gorgeous, in the sense that they are absolutely repulsive.

I could maybe change the Chosen's lascannon for a heavy bolter (since Anthraxus already have a flamer, and heavy bolters feel very Death Guard to me for some reason) and then give Daemonic Possession to the Vindicator...that would keep the points the same. I'm kind of attached to the list as it is though, because believe it or not I sat in work and wrote down my wish-list of the squads I'd like and what I'd like them to have with no regard to cost - intending it to be just a starting point from which to fine-tune it - and when I added up what I'd chosen, that very first off-the-top-of-my-head list came out at exactly 3,000 points.

Which I'm taking as a sign from Grandfather Nurgle Himself that this is the list for me
