Svart the Possessed Terminogre conversion is freaking awesome i'm loving the GS detail you have on the stomach.
"Totally reminds me of The Thing."
Damn, you're right! I've not seen 'The Thing' for...er...ages, had totally forgotten about it. Now I come to think of it, I've no idea why I thought of the Blue Meanies as inspiration for the Possessed Terminogre, since I've not seen 'Yellow Submarine' for even longer...
I gave up trying to deconstruct the processes of my imagination along time ago .
"What are your plans for the rest of the body?"
First, blending the teeth into the sides of the torso with 'gums' so it's more integrated-looking. For arms, I'm currently planning on using two of the long skinny taloned ones from the Spawn sprue, with lesions and buboes added via GS and similar diseased bits all over the exposed flesh of the model. Buggered if I know what I'm going to use for a head at the moment, been thinking of maybe a mutilated Ogre head; still working on that, though.
However last night it suddenly seemed very important to have a go at doing a Nurgle Spawn, so that's what's lurking on the workbench right now...
EDIT from work: I've now become obsessed with making a pygmy Nurgle Spawn to match my pygmy Plague Terminator and Chosen ...this is what's keeping me going in work tonight, the thought of going back and making one...

Do you even NEED a head? If you're going to be combining Spawn parts with it, why not do something as "simple" as taking a pair of eyes and gluing them or "indenting" them into the rounded upper part of his neck, then maybe take a length of paperclip bent into a 'V' shape with the two long ends pinned into his neck somewhat near the base. I think an elongagated, toothy-mawed dog-skull-like head hunched forwards from his shoulders would suit the figure nicely. I don't doubt you could do something credible and appropriately "tooth" given with how nice the torso mouth seems to have turned out. What are your plans for the rest of the body?
As an aside, I'm seeing one of my Tide of Spawn body ideas coming together in the flesh, apparently. I was thinking when I first got the box and saw the bitz that for one of the torsos, I'd like to saw the front chest piece in half and have it pried outwards, with a long toothy mouth snaking down the middle of the trap-jaw torso. I figgered with the Spawn body, I'd just turn part of the torso into eye sockets as they already have those insets. This looks good with an Ogre body, so it gives me hope that my own idea will play out well when I eventually get around to it. I'm likely going to do the teeth in styrene rod, though, for the sake of hardness and solidity that I just don't think GS offers. I'm always inclined with conversions to use materials most appropriate hardness- and agularity-wise to what the finished product is intended to be. You, Svart, on the other hand, just seem to be using GS for everything and ending up with twice the result in half the time of anything I could likely accomplish.
Um, to cut my rambling short: this is another fine example of your GS work and it looks really good. I wish I were as prolific and as skilled with the stuff as you seem to be.
Oh, and so far as the darker trim on your Terminators - I've been wondering why you didn't add a darker color like black or brass or dark grey to them already. The overall green and pale flesh look good, but they need something dark on the edging and the "metal" trim IMO to fully flesh them out. Brass ought to be good if you weather the hell out of it with stark silver/bronze edge highlights (like it's been sharpened or heavily worn) and then dirty the crap out of the remainder with brown and black mottling. Just my own thoughts, though - remember that you're actually going to end up with the better part of an army in about the time it takes me to fully flesh out a single squad. Heh. (I need a job as a mini painter, I think, where I can spend more time on things daily than just fits and starts late at night after wife and daughter have gone to bed on the off evenings when I am actually able to keep my eyes open past 10pm.)

I was actually thinking along the lines of having a head with no mouth, or at least no lower jaw...since he's already quite well-equipped in the mouth department somewhere else I tried an Ogre head but it seemed like it would still look too Ogre-y even with the lower jaw removed. Maybe with a bunch of augmetics or something...
"I'm always inclined with conversions to use materials most appropriate hardness- and angularity-wise to what the finished product is intended to be..."
I know what you mean, and largely agree; but since I wanted the mouth to be the result of chaotic mutation as a result of possession, I figured mismatched and non-straight/smooth teeth were the way to go. I wondered about using talons etc. cut from hands and stuff on the Spawn sprue, but after I plucked up my courage in a you-can-do-this sort of way GS felt right as the medium to use in the end.
"You, Svart, on the other hand, just seem to be using GS for everything..."
I dunno what it is, it just seems to feel fairly natural to me; has done since I first tried using it. Thanks for the compliment on my GS work, I'm actually using this project as a test by way of setting myself a fairly tough thing to model to see if I can pull it off. Onwards & upwards, and all that.
I'm still conflicted over the paint job; I like the way Ganglia looks right now, but now a sufficient number of people whose opinions I respect have said they think it needs something extra that now I'm wondering what to do with it. Heavily weathered bronze-ish colours are about the only thing I could stomach on them to be honest...nothing bright, for certain. Currently Ganglia is sat next to the paint-test one on my PC desk while I stare + ruminate...
I can't look at that terminogre for too long without having to scroll away. It's disgusting.
So... in essence, great work? lol
I'm very concerned about what it will look like when painted. I'll have to only take fleeting glances at it.

I've decided to have a go at making Foulspawn, the named Spawn from the CSM Codex...in the absence of any canonical pictures of him I'm going to go nuts and see what warped horrors I can dredge up from the Stygian depths of my mind...
Oh and yay, 20K views

OK. Making Spawn is really fun; I feel like I've turned into Doktor von Svartmetall, playing with body parts in his mad scientist's lab . I'm still green-stuffing away on them and chopping parts up so they don't look out-of-the-box, but it's refreshing to not have to stick to any design guidelines and basically just go nuts, with each model being pretty individual. On several of them I'm actually adding sections or broken pieces of Marine armour, since fluff-wise almost all Spawn will have been Marines at some point before succumbing to uncontrollable mutation...that's proving to be especially fun to play with, aesthetically; I'm actually quite tempted to make a Spawninator, with chunks of Termie armour in amongst the Chaotic gribbliness...inspired very much by the 'Brundlepod' biomechanical hybrid at the end of 'The Fly'.
As for Foulspawn, I think it's going to be sketchbook time...all we know about him is he has a long tongue and can swallow people whole, and is meant to be so disgusting to look at that even other devotees of Nurgle find him repulsive. I feel a kind of bloated, mad, Cthulhu-esque warped toad-meets-Great Unclean One-meets-anglerfish hybrid monstrosity coming on

back onto the terminogre... how does a terminator helmet compare to the body?

"how does a terminator helmet compare to the body?"
Haven't even tried, mainly because I don't actually like the Terminator helmets very much...that's the reason why all my normal Terminators have (diseased) bare heads
use the facemask from a defiler imo

Kind of going along with Tinweasel's post, you could, instead of a head, go for a diseased bloody stump. Make it look like someone tried to kill it, only to learn too late that they have something much bigger to worry about.

Heh, a mate of mine had a band called 'Bloody Stump' back when I lived in Wales The head for the Possessed Terminogre is actually proving to be a bit of a stumper, which is one of the reasons I'm taking a break by making Spawn for a bit; I'm almost at the point of saying sod it and just sculpting a head almost entirely out of green stuff. Currently, however, I'm sitting here in work doing very bad conceptual sketches in biro for a Spawninator...
what if you made it look like a bunch of tentacles were coming out of random place in his general neck/ shoulder area trying either to rip teh head to pieces or suck it into his body-neck-ting
Currently, the leading contender in the Design A Head For A Possessed Terminogre competition is a kind of cyber-Plaguebearer head, with augmetic bits stuck into it and a mouth that's totally decomposed to the point of non-functionality. It'd probably have to be (at least) mostly green stuff, but since the mouth-in-torso thing was something I set myself to do as a green-stuffing test and that's seemed to come out OK, I reckon I'll give it a go...
I know! A blank, iron mask, a la "The Man in the Iron Mask!" (edging to match the termy armor, rivets 'n' all!) That'd cover the need for something joined to the neck but be restrained enough that it makes the toothy chest stand out all the more.
My thoughts are similar: the toothy stomach would look great with an iron mask over the guys head and his arms fastened behind him. Though you'd probably need to model some little mutant grabby claws down around the crotch region.
and still I would go with a defiler mask.. my friend has one for his defiler that looks really nurgly
what about a metal face plate that's utterly blank, and the mutated mouth? Or an utterly blank face with, like suggested earlier, a mouth on the stomach.
Could represent that you never see death comming :P or that death is blind, it consumes all... hmmmm to poetic for nurgle.. im stopping now
Quick update - here's a couple of the Spawn I've been working on. Making Spawn is fun, you can just go nuts and not worry about visual consistency with anything else; the trick is to make sure each individual Spawn makes sense on its own terms aesthetically.
The Fly head, extended somewhat and with an extra eye added...
...will be the head for this one.
Note the Ogre cleaver - no reason he should lose his weapon just because he's turned into an uncontrollably mutated monstrosity...
Here's another Spawn, with some bits of Chaos Marine armour to make the point that this was once human...
I particularly like the way his left ear is now halfway down his face. On his back is a nest of tentacles, designed as a nod to the classic Beast Of Nurgle model...
While the initial green stuff bits are drying on these two, I'm working on a Possessed assembled from a combination of Ogre, Spawn and Possessed body parts. It's going to be odd...photos once he's a bit more assembled than he currently is.
Here's the head on the first Spawn, it makes a lot more sense in situ...
...the Ogre hand on the weapon is the perfect size to fit that Spawn arm; I'm going to have a lot of fun painting these guys
These are very impressive Svart, you really have the knack of capturing the nurgle / chaotic feel to your mini's. I'd really love to see a full army shot of all your guys, i bet there a sight to behold all shambling and g(n)urgling there way towards the battle.
Not intentionally - he was going to have a modified Ogre head until the very last minute when I was trying different bits on him, and the Fly one just seemed to fit the model's final body/limb posture. The Spawninator thing I'm wondering about making is definitely inspired by the final Brundlefly/Telepod hybrid thing from 'The Fly', though...

Just wanted to say thanks btw for all the suggestions about the Possessed Terminogre's head...nice to know people are taking an interest in my deranged dabblings .
I made some decent progress on the next Possessed's torso just before I came out to work - i.e. I finally got the inspiration to be able to work out what the hell to do for his arms - and should be able to post some pics of him when I get home tonight; he's a weird smorgasbord of Ogre, Possessed and Spawn body parts, but he actually works as a unified whole somehow.
EDIT: I think what I like most about making Possessed is that you can have all the baroque ornamentation of Chaos Marine armour, and if anything make it more baroque to show that the Daemonic element of the symbiosis that is Possession is affecting its physical form; but you can also still go nuts with body mutations and stuff (albeit not quite as nuts as with Spawn) beyond what a 'normal' Chaos Marine would have...and I guess that to my conversion-crazed way of thinking, I reckon that's as close as I can get modelling-wise to a best-case scenario

im pretty sure everyone takes interest in your "deranged dabblings"
theyre a boat load of epic winzorz!!!11!!!one!!1!1!one!!!!
well... The orge is damn awsome!
but I cant keep thinking: what about when you prime the mini? you have already painted the intrior(?) of the mouth. and if you spray the mini then you probably will get some paint in side the mouth unless you cover up the mouth and paint the covered area after by hand. which i do suggest.

Yep, that's what I'd been planning to do - blu-tack a bit of card over the open area, then hand-prime any bits around the 'mouth' that evaded the sprayed primer. It's that or hand-prime the whole model...
EDIT: It kind of depends on how the rest of the Possessed Terminogre turns out, though, as I'm thinking of adding more gaping holes (though not necessarily mouths, per se) into the model and the more of those there end up being the more logical it becomes to just hand-prime it.

As promised, here's a peek at the Spawn/Possessed/Ogre hybrid that's going to be my next Possessed model; was hard to get such disparate body parts to fit together, but I'm pleased with this initial result.
...currently the claws are blu-tacked on just so I can check posture etc., but I think he's looking promising already.
You are AWESOME at making these. I'm going to have to have a go at this sort of stuff for my Death Guard when i have the time.
you should change the left arm to a terminator arm.. now it looks too small imo
Nah, he's meant to look kind of asymmetric...
EDIT: I really like asymmetry on stuff like this, the trick to my mind is to get what I call 'balanced asymmetry' - it might not be the same on both sides but viewed as a whole it makes sense. I'm always trying to make sure things have their own internal sort of logic, and aren't just random assemblages of bits...even Spawn...

yeah that's why we're such different chaos collectors
A bijou update-ette; I've now got most of the torso GS work done on the new Possessed...
...and gave him a new, bigger right foot since his old one was a bit dull.
Blending the various styles of body part together via the GS work is proving to be interesting; the plan is to get the various Ogre, Spawn and Possessed pieces I've used on him to look unified together.
Hopefully I'll have more painted stuff to post tonight, I'm off to Warhammer World now to do some work on Ganglia and the rest of the Terminators...
Svart im loving the way you have coupled together the CSM parts with the spawn torso, wish i had your confidence of hacking up spare bits to combine them into some thing new.
Svartmetall in 'actually basing a model' shock news! Here's what I devoutly hope is the final stage of everything on Ganglia...shoulderpad edging painted, eyes picked out a bit, face subtly lifted with a highlight of very watered-down Bleached Bone...and, yes, based.
I will grudgingly admit that those who said it would look better with the shoulderpads painted were....nghhh....right .
As always, all C&C welcomed.
shoulder pads ftw!
i like the base texture that you chose
looks like little bits of mica(mika) or w/e that shale like green rock is
i think it needs nurgly iconography
"wish i had your confidence of hacking up spare bits to combine them into something new"
Heh, thanks...and if you think that's 'hacking things up', wait till you see the Spawn I just started work on...let's just say I've never needed to use sprue to help construct a model before
"i think it needs nurgly iconography"
It's pretty much a fluff decision, actually; I chose to not put Nurgle icons visible on most of the Terminators, figuring that in-character you'd know pretty much straight off they were Plague Terminators if you saw them (recognition immediately preceding the running-like-hell stage). Almost all of the guys in Pandemic sport Nurgle icons on their skin or armour, but not these guys...they're the founding fathers of the chapter, and they don't need to; they've been spreading the disease* for ten millennia, and have nothing to prove.
*there's always room for a heavy metal reference
Now that's what I call a Nurgle Terminator! I think the basing sets it off excellently (color, texture, and all) and the figure looks decorative and disgustingly baroque in contrast, which it should.
I'd also agree that with a figure like this, the only thing adding Nurgle iconography would do is add redundancy added into things. (Get it?) I think the figure and the paintjob scream "Nurgle" loudly enough without having it tattooed on as well...
@ Svart - What did you use for the basing material? I like the look and the texture!
... wow ...
EDIT; now that ive recovered I can make a more detailed comment. The highlights for me on the painting is the shade of the green and the metal. The green looks really. . . um . . . good. (I couldnt think of a better word, sorry)
Happy to see it's turned out so well Looks great with all the metal trims and painted highlight and bits! You had me worried for a while svart, thought we were gonna see Plauge Marine Terminator statues!
Looking much better Svart, adding some more colour to the trims has made all the difference. Kudos on the base, its simple but damn effective is it at its final stage or will you add small details to it?
"wait till you see the Spawn I just started work on...let's just say I've never needed to use sprue to help construct a model before"
Im not sure i want to, seeing the ones your have already made are making me get the urge to pull my apart and start again.
"What did you use for the basing material? I like the look and the texture!"
I'm almost embarrassed to tell you, it's so basic - I covered a base in PVA glue, dipped it in the smallest slate tub that comes in the GW basing set, then gave it a light drybrush of Scaly Green once it had set. What the hell, I think it looks decent enough.
Well am I the only one to think that the shoulder trims need some work?
that and the other I guess tin bitz painted areas just look... unfinished. Though that bolter sure looks great! that is one nice rust effect you have there! may I suggest that metal recipe for all the metal?
