Updated Warskinner FC and SM and new skin idea!

    Hi guys!

I just finished these and I'd like to share these as well as make them available for the guys that use my skins. These are sharpened and shaded versions of my Force Command and Space Marine. The FC had his face and hair modified a little and the SM has been simplified for other skinners to tweak as they like. Here are pics to show the difference between shaded and non-shaded models.

If you noticed the shaded models look a lot better especially if you're fond of chapters that use grey, yellow and white colors. The shading is based on the "Painter's Halo of Light" technique. If you paint TT models, you'll immediately grasp what I've done. Basically, I shaded the color layers based on the premise that light was present somewhere above the model. On some occasions, the models actually look like they have specular lighting on them. This technique is great as you have better looking models without taxing your computer's resources. If your computer can handle it, adding specular lighting to these make the models more beautiful.

I hope this little technique is considered by the skinning community as an added option in their future projects. Please post any feedbacks that you have so I can improve this technique further.
    Thanks!

The skins can be downloaded here and they will be added to my site soon. (Banners and badges by Hangar-8)

    I have a grand idea...

If only you could allow Hanger to use that as a base for one last golden eagle! (final is a little rough you know) Just thinking about such textures makes me giddy.

The FC skin is very nice, especially the shoulder trim. However space marines don't have beards(their skin is threated not to grow hair, it would be annoying in a helmet).

I reckon he looks cooler with the beard anyway and like Lleman Russ stated there are plenty of chapters that have had characters or squads that have beards. What is not cool about a beard, apparantly in a shakespear play "A Man Without A Beard Is Not A Man But a Boy" or something like that anyway. Force Commander Beard FTW! *laughs*

Looks very good spec, as usual . I´m downloading right now and may give more feedback later, when i´ve seen your work ingame. It is really cool to have such a cool person around here and it´s even better that you are not the only one . Keep up the great work bro.

These skins are absolutely amazing Brother,But that is to be expected from one that is as good as Hanger-8 in my humble opinion ,Later Spectre and have a good one.

I kind of like the fact that spectre716 and Hangar-8 have their own styles. It's what makes the different skins unique.

Look attentively at the leftwards pics in each couple. These ones show some lighting that 'hits' the uppermost part of each piece of the armour. Just as in the usual mini painting method, as Spectre said.

@ Spectre: as i said, it looks good and adds some crispiness to the model, but if i have one comment it's that it makes the power armour look slightly too 'clean' for the use a space marines would make of it.

    I wholeheartedly agree L.

The problem with this is that if you add some weathering it sometimes gets in the way of the shading. This is especially true when you play in-game and are looking at the units from the default camera angle. If I add some weathering, I don't see so much of the effect anymore.

I have yet to perfect the technique so that it does not look like the armor is spot clean.

The whole thing is done using the color layers and the dirt layer has to be pitch black to show the full effect from a distance.

Edvin has expressed interest in the technique and I hope he can come up with a technique to weather without losing the halo effect.

With regards to the beard, it is purely a subjective matter. Maybe in the near future I can make one that is clean shaven. Of course, if you know how to re-skin, you can just drop the original texture there and have a go with it.

@Adonis: Man, I love your new Avatar (Ben Stiller). I wish I can have a custom avatar of my own. Hey, I know a couple of artists who have made W40k images and I have permission to use their work. You think I can add more avatars here in Relic Forums?

The only thing that bugs me about the Force Commander's beard is that it makes his skin look really pale in comparison. A little 5 o'clock shadow can add a lot of detail to the character's face, but as dark as your FC's beard is compared to his skin it makes him look a little sickly.

One way to fix this might be to change the skintone a bit... as an example, here's a FC I was working on back in a WA mod I was doing; note the slight tan and the 5 o'clock shadow.

    A request:

Once upon a time, someone did a great addition that made the IG buildings slightly colored with the main army color. Now, it seem to not work in DC, no matter where I put the files. If you like the idea, Spectre716, it would be a very useful project to realize

Necro aside (really, check the date next and create a new thread to ask a question with the OP linked in it ) this retex will most likely work on basic marines but not on the FC or his wargear (or not the whole of it) since the model has changed between DC and SS... Best and most sensible way to find out is to download Spectre's files and use them.
