    [OF]FairPlay Mod v2 - SGA version Availible!!!!

This all stared with a thread in Company of Heroes GD started by Mikkow. He wanted to discourage the use of blobs with a few simple rules. Im just going to quote his rules to save me the trouble.

    This mod...

    Global:

No deleting trenches. (Reason: That troops could 'scuttle' a hole in the ground instantly is more absurd than scuttling most things. Also balances out the brit-trenches a bit).

    British:
    1. No "Heroic Charge" (Reason: This ability greatly promotes blobbing, both by boosting the troops, making them bypass most anti-blob mechanics, and encouraging them to gather into a tight area instead of using cover)
    2. No more than two Commando teams at any time (From the 3 Command Point Commando glider, not the Commando HQ Glider) on map. A soft-cap? (Reason: Commandos are OP)

    Wehrmacht:
    No changes.

    Panzer Elite:
    1. PanzerGrenadiers built from HQ building may not spend munitions to upgrade to MP44 and PanzerSchreck. (Reason: Having access to the (next to the FG42) best infantry carried Anti-Tank and Anti-Infantry weapons already promotes blobs. To have them even more accessible by choosing to spend munitions or manpower to get them, and to be able to retrofit older squads, makes for a 'no PanzerGrenadier left behind' kind of policy where they all benefit to make the blob useful).
    2. Fallschirmjägers may not spend munitions to upgrade to FG42. (Reason: FG42 is overpowered. Fallschirmjägers are not meant to be blobbed Anti-infantry units, but more of a sneaky commando raiding type unit. The FG42 causes Fallschirmjäger spam and encourages adding them to blobs).

    Americans
    1. No more than two "Ranger" squads on field at the same time. Another soft-cap. (Reason: Rangers are overpowered for their cost. They obsoletes the other infantry and encourage blobs).

    ===============================
    Updated v2: (11-11-07, 10:51 PM EST)
-Changed Sandbags to normal. You can use them to wall off an area now. I need to work on it withough breaking sandbags completly...

    Updated (11-13-07, 10:52 PM EST):
-Added a working .sga version for OF.
    ===============================

    Installation:
    1. The "FairPlay" folder and "FairPlay.module" file goes in your main CoH directory, "C:\Program Files\THQ\Company of Heroes"

    2. The "FairPlay.English.ucs" file goes in: (From your CoH directory) "Engine\Locale\English\", beside the "RelicCOH.English.ucs"

To launch the mod, make a copy of your CoH shortcut and name it FairPlay. Right click on it and go to Properties. At the end of the "Target" line, add:

    -modname FairPlay -nomovies

    The target should read:

    "C:\Program Files\THQ\Company of Heroes\RelicCOH.exe" -modname FairPlay -nomovies

    when your done.

    What happened?

    Oh no, its OF.

  3. #3
I wanna do a big VCoH mod. I've always started, just never finished them off... they sometimes get used as personal mods but I don't get round to finishing them - now I'm not sure if people would play it with OF out now...

Can you confirm if the vCoH version I posted actually works?

  5. #5
    Yeh, it does.

  6. #6
Did the delete trench thing rule end up working?

  7. #7
No idea, I was just testing the VCoH version.

@Mikkow, I'll just leave them undeletable untill I get the ability working. I may start a thred asking about it later. Ive got a game to play!

  9. #9
They should be undeletable Not even deletable for sappers/engineers (the latest ruledraft).

Tried it out with FPSeraph. Can't see any other games, can't accept invites from either of us, as it says "FPSeraph has invited you but you are unable to join".

The -dev thing seems to rule it out. There's a topic in teh armory discussing how to make it work.

sounds like a great mod i like the fair play rules
Gamers don't die, they go to the next level

Confirmed that the version 2 mod posted up now doesn't work in MP at all. MirrorImage, your service would be appreciated Even better if you could convey to AverageJo on how to perform it.

And yes Bottenbreker, several FP players said it'd be good with a mod that enforces the rules so they don't have to think as much about it or worry about breaking them by mistake.

To be honest I lack the patience to tell anyone how to do it anymore. I've posted it like 10 times and made a youtube video on how to do it.

    Download
    Linked removed.

the only command line augment you need at a shortcut with this version is
    "-modname FairPlay"
    without the quotes.

You can leave it up there if you want. As soon as I figure out a way to "fix" sandbags again, it wont matter.

Edit: I must be brain dead at the moment...The .ucs file is NOT in the right spot. Right now its in: "Company of Heroes\FairPlay\Locale\FairPlay.ucs"
It needs to be in: "Company of Heroes\Engine\Locale\English\FairPlay.ucs"

The mod files AverageJo posted before did NOT work in MP except with him - between people that are not him, no go. So please leave it up. Maybe AJ could use these files in the opening post as attachments?

Thanks a bunch Mirror btw, highly appreciated. Can't wait to see if it works.

    ---

And Jo, think that'll do it? Mirror's way is probably the most solid. And since you know how to do that as well, that'd be golden

Still AverageJoe needs to fix the sandbags that he broke. My suggestion would be to make a sandbag segment the length of a trench with a great enough width that it would prevent ht eplayer from putting it too close to bridges and such. Also would make it unable to wall off areas period.
All sides are only as Overpowered as you let them.

Did the new version I uploaded not fix it?

    for online play.

Don't worry about the bag-walling off issue. People have legit reasons to put bags very near bridges or even on them. It's easily checked if anyone messes with exploiting that anyway And with the messed up building these days, it's not a big deal.

Focus on cleaning up the other ruleset, like the proper text displayed for call-in ranger hardcaps. Then it'd be really nice and polished. Yum!

    That fixes it.

Did more testing, with the mirror's version and the latest version, and both failed in MP. Hrmmm.

Alright, I think I got a working (Online) version of FairPlay, put in .sga form thanks to MirrorImage. All hail MirrorImage!

Me and LtMatt did a fresh install of it and tried, but still no go. Can't see each other's games, and the usual "you have been invited but couldn't join because of a problem.". Double checked everything.
