M11 - Sacrifice
#1
Use this mission to help you prepare for M12.
Don't get all core fragments right away. Once you kill the vaygr force, you will have plenty of time to build and harvest as long as you wait on the last core fragment.
#3
Notice that only the nebulaes around the core fragments will damage your ships - first, I tried to navigate my strike groups around those nebulas.
Mission objectives say research radiation shielding ... but it's not on my list available to research - am I being stupid?
Really brief comment
Use Field Frigates to negate the radiation when moving in a Resourcer to collect core bits. Move the Resourcer up to the area outside the radiation and have the FF guarding it... when you get to the location, activate the FF and then sneak in to grab the Core fragment.
Let the Vaygr get the main core fragment for you with their Carrier but then blow them up afterwards (you have several minutes to do this). That way you don't need a FF to retrieve that fragment.
And yes, for me this is *real* brief.![]()
Hmm i can't seem to complete the mission. I got all 3 fragments. I hunt down all the remaining vaygr. I send probes all over the map
I still can't find any vaygr to kill.... any suggestions anyone..
A trick here seems to be getting your slow moving Dread and BC into play earlier into the engagement rather than later. Haven't tried yet, but I think that there is a trigger midway, and that you can avoid action if you keep everything behind the Dread/BC and follow their advance towards the central core straight up. A few destroyers left and right should clean up easily. When I played last night, I raced ahead of the big boys. Would have taken less losses to have their gunpower earlier on.

Am I doing something wrong?
Resourcer and Field Frigate go to get core fragment
resourcer and core fragment in frigates area of influence.
Field activated.
Resourcer approaches core fragment and promptly dies.
help?
=8#0)
Game over, I win.
the field frigate has barely enough time to escort a worker in. Approach with two workers and a DF, and do a save game.
have the DF guard one worker, the other worker Y-health the DF. Pause. Right click the worker to dock with the fragment, activate the field, then unpause. When the worker starts to move with it, get out of dodge. If you mess up, load your saved game. Best not done with combat going on. I suggest clobbering the opposition before doing this.
-dB
Its better to destroy the Vaygr before going for the core fragments. Use strike craft to do hit-and fade's on the Vaygr carrier and distract it long enough to bring your bigger guns to bear. Repeat for the shipyard. Killing off the Vaygr isn't really that hard unless you get distracted with salvaging the core fragments.
As for getting the fragments, I didnt have any problems at all. Get a resourcer and a Defense Field Frig. Set the resourcer to escort the DFG, and move the DFG so that its coverage bubble is penetrating into the haazardous gas. Just as it gets close to the gas, activate the DF and quickly tell the worker to salvage the piece. If times correctly the bubble will come online just as the worker enters the cloud and nobody gets hurt. As soon as the worker gets the piece, make it haul ass and begin pulling your DFG out as well. He shouldnt have more than a few meters to move and the worker will escape unhurt. Again, this relies on good timing, but it is rather easy to do. it helps to know the hotkey for DF activation.
It's much easier if you tag-team with two field frigates. Tell the first one to turn its shield on, then just before it runs out, activate the second one's shield. You can keep going back and forth as long as you need.
I found a novel way of retrieving the cores, for some reason or other my workers kept frying, couldn't get the DF sheild close enough, lost my temper and sent the DF straight at it with field up, and it head-butted it right out of the gas cloud, did it with two, but lost one DF.
u need to send in A PROBE FIRST SO THE U GET THE MSG TO RESEARCH!!!
i send in 2 dfg as ppl have done here and alternate the switch of each force field....
click the DFGs and click the top one, then press the hotkey T, wait 30 sec, or when the announcer tells u the field needs re charge, click the other DFG and click T..
should have plenty of time to get out
actually, the DF has enough field radius to be parked outside the radiation on all of them, giving enough coverage to a worker. It must be positioned to cover the worker's entry and exit straight back to the MS. No muss, no fuss. Park the DF, select the worker, right click the core to start it going towards it, click the DF and hit 'T'.
Use the effective radius overlay of the DF by selecting it, then hit the TAB until the white sphere lines show. Them move it gingerly until it just covers past the core.
Also, you don't need to probe to get the research message. Make a bit cap-first strike group of all your shooters, and march it straight towards the core, ducking under the wreckage.
Nothing will hyper in until you get close, and you should have more than enough firepower to defend it at that point.
If you don't build a slow strike group, then you won't have all your toddling big guns handy when it is time to shoot.

It's called "Imp Defense Field Frigate Reasearch"Originally posted by Cpt_Jim_BiB
Mission objectives say research radiation shielding ... but it's not on my list available to research - am I being stupid?
here's my strategy:
Operation Roundhammer:
You divide your forces into two teams:
Hammer Force consists of:
dreadnought
captured Vag BC
Hiigaran BC
3 DDs
a handful of torp firgates (to kill corvettes)
and half your fighters, bombers and corvettes
Anvil Force:
1 Carrier with platform controller
2 DDs
another handful of frigates (not really necessary)
the rest of your fighters/corvettes
Hammer force takes the right flank, towards the place where the carrier jumps in, Anvil force takes the left flank, towards the resource pocket that the shipyard jumps to.
Move them about halfway to the two outer core fragments and wait until you have 10 ion and 10 gun platforms and the BC is finished.
Move Hammer force towards where the carrier will jump in, move the plats and strike craft from Anvil force towards the resource pocket.
When the Vaygr jump in Hammer force will crush the opposition easily, while the Vaygr strike craft smash on Anvil's platforms like eggs on a brick wall! Move up the DDs from Hammer and Anvil to kill the shipyard, then once the BC, carrier and DD hyper in the heavies from Hammer force swing around and blow those away (that "Reflex Cannon" the Dread has took the BC in like 2 shots).
Game is practically over, just take all the core fragments.
(might want to retire your frigs so you're not swamped with 20 BCs on the next one)
Just send your entire fleet of BCs, Destroyers, Strike Craft (Inties, Bombers and Pulsars) to the right of the middle core fragment. They should reach there when the enemy carrier hyperspaces in. Proceed to waste the fleet.
After that, move left to the left core fragment, take out the shipyard, and the Vagyr will no longer trouble you for this mission.
This is faster. Put a destroyer underneath the core, out of the field.
Move it staight up out of the field. It will push the core out of harms way. This is
faster than the field frigate, and you don't need to build any, or research anything. You can also have three teams go after the three parts.
-dB
Anyone know where the alleged hyperjump enabled BC is? If true, that would be a good one to steal rather than kill.
-dB
And there is a radiation field near the bentusi wreck, I found that out the hard way and lost a BC with fire control.
Your computer running very slow is a known bug. It happens in other mission as well. I have to restart the mission from the Mission selection area in order to resolve the bug.
I have tried many times to reload my saved game, it just doesn't work...
Radiation is very strong around the bentus. You have to move the fleet around to avoid the wreckage.
I've tried everything mentioned in this forum, but it doesn't work whatever way I try. The problem simply seems to be that I never get the option to research the Imp Defense Field Frigate Research. I did send probes, I do get the message that I should now research it, but there is no such option in the research tab. Putting up the shield with 't' is therefore totally ineffective, and before workers even reach the core fragment, together with one or multiple activated DFFs, everything explodes. Starting the level again didn't change a thing. So, is it a scripting bug or not? For one thing, it certainly frustrating! I want to complete this wonderful game!Originally posted by Smeerak
It's called "Imp Defense Field Frigate Reasearch"
as I said before, don't bother. Just use a big ship like a destroyer to push the fragment out of the radiation cloud.
-dB
Ah, finally, the trick with bashing the fragments with a destroyer worked. Now on to level 12...
There have been persistant rumours that the BC that jumps in late -sometimes- becomes equtpped with a hyperspace module if you leave it a lone for a while. Then, when captured, you have a hyper-capable BC for later missions.
I have not seen this personally. If anyone else does, and can say how to get to happen repeatably, there will be much rejoicing.
It you do have patience and time, please try and report any success.
thanks,
-dB
The rumours are true. If you leave it alone long enough, the BC that arrives here sometimes will spontaneously develop a hyper module and then be caught and used later.
You may need to restart the level a few times to get it in the mood. I haven't yet detected a pattern of when it will do this.
When I did this, I did a big counterclockwise sweep taking out the carrier group, then going after the shipyard group. I had 4 carriers, but not yet a full complement of frigs, bombers and vettes.
Never built a defense frig or did the research; used destoyers and a carrier to bump the fragments out of their radiation fields.
-dB
What exactly did you do to get the Hyperspace capable BC? I've wiped out all other ships on the map, and am currently staring at it, waiting for it to do something.
you may need to restart the mission a few times to get it in the mood. It seems not to always get the hyper module. We don't know the trigger yet. If you figure it out, post!
-dB
Restart it? From the beginning? Surely not!
don't bother salvaging the fragments yet, as they will only distract you. the main objective is to destroy the vaygr, only then can you collect the fragments in peace.
move every ship from fighters to bc into formation (so that everyone will arrive together) and bring them near the middle core. this will trigger the vayrg into hypering in. take out the shipyard first then proceed with the carrier.
NOTE: after destroying ALL vaygr forces, somehow you'll have to wait for quite some time before clearing the level. could be a bug.
there are dangerous radiation somewhere in the middle of the wrakage. try to avoid if possible.
Not the game, the mission. It only takes about 20 minutes.

I beat this mission using only bombers and pulsars. I used 6 to 10 squads of each. My first group had 6 of each in it. I set my capital ship sin a blocking formation for the MS, and just left them to handle what little was going after home. As soon as the Vaygr jumped it, I went after the small force of Destroyer, Carrier, and Frigs in the lower right. Tore 'em up. I then cut across to the Shipyard and destroyed that. I then cun back across the map and ran into the BC. I lost my pulsar screen, so I pulled back. I built 9 new pulsar wings and a few more bombers, and tossed in some Interceptors as a destraction. I now went to pick a fight. Found the BC, and splashed it. Lastly I nailed the Carrier and moped up the resorcers. Quick and easy, plus I ended up with all squads for the next mission.
the 'hyperspace' ready BC that is referred to in this thread...is it the BC that hypers in during the second Vaygr wave (1 BC, 1 Carrier, 1 DD), or is it something different that appears on its own later in teh level...and, if so, at what point and where approximately?
resources are low in this map, after you drain the 1st RU pocket, the next 2 are in Vaygr territory. So if you are low on RU's to begin with, don't send your ships or probes out yet, this will trigger the Vaygr HSing in the area, don't even bother researching for the Imp Field until after you have destroyed the Vaygr.
I usually try to set up a fort around the Bentusi wreckage with platforms, usually send them out in 2's and 2's(2 ion plats and 2 gun plats to cover each other) From there the Vaygr are directly in front and their retrieval fleet is off to the lower right.
If I have a large fleet I send out bombers pulsars out to their shipyard, I 've notice if you hit them quick and hit their production centers early, the rest is downhill,
I even formed a special fleet to take the Vaygr BC that hypers in, thinking that BC was supposed to have a hyper module on it and you're supposed to be able to hype with that BC in single player.
I must be doing something wrong, it's not hyping out on me.
Was that a hoax?
Invaliduser, there is only the one BC in this mission, showing up at 1 o'clock high as late arriving help. Once you clobber its escorts, sometimes it will spontaneously generate an HSM, and sometimes it won't. You may need to restart the mission if it doesn't do it within 5-10 minutes of appearing.
You can watch it closely, or just wait for it to jump to be sure. Some have observed it jumping near your MS; I have only seen it jump near the 9 o'clock resource patch. It's good to keep clobbering its missile tubes, because it might jump near something you care about.
-dB
I maxed out everything except from frigates.
Then sent the probes to the cores.
Then when the vagyr hyp in, I sent 5 Des, 2 BC, 7 bombers, 7 interceptors and they wiped out every single one of them, starting with the carrier that takes the middle core.
I played this mission over and over till I figured out how to nab that pesky Hyperspace BC. Save after most of the Vaygr ships are destroyed so you can retry if something goes wrong. You can't have any BC's of your own if you want the Vagyr BC with a hyperspace Mod. I had to scuttle 2 of my own BC's. The first few tries it hypered around the SY, and once over in front of my Mothership in which case I got blowed away cause I didn't have any other ships around to protect it. I tried targeting the Hyper mod to keep it in one place, but after capturing it wouldn't grow back. So.. (1) back ALL your cap ships far away so they don't attack (2) have at least 2 Marine Frigs waiting high above the shipyard and 2 above your MS. (3) Don't destroy the Hyper Mod on the Vagyr BC. (4) Take out the missile launcher with Bombers before attempting. (5) do not build or have in your fleet any BC's. Hope this helps.![]()
I have captured it while having the captured BC from M9 in my inventory. But I played a few times over the weekend, and the one that came in never, ever grew its HSM. I suspect it's because I killed everything else so fast that there weren't enough resources in the Vagyr bank to allow it to build one.
So, there seems to be a balance act between speed and completing the mission with low cost to you. Perhaps not killing the shipyard and its fleet of harvesters quite so quickly is the trick.
-dB
This is what I did that successfully captured the hyperspace modded BC.
Group 1(Capital Phalanx)
Captured Vagyr BC
Dreadnought
5 destroyers
10+ torp frigs
12 pulsars
Group 2 (Fighter Screen)
14 bombers
When I was ready for the vagyr to hyper in, I began slowly moving group 1 into position where the 1st carrier would hyper in.
The second group began to make a wide sweep around to behind where the BC and carrier hyper in the 2nd wave. Have your bombers be a ways away so as not to alert the BC or carrier.
As the vagyr hypered in, group 1 was right on top of the carrier group and decimated them swiftly with zero losses. After that, I broke up the strike group, sending the captured BC to where the shipyard was. I then sent the remainder of group 1 back to the mother ship. I then sent the BC on a suicide mission to take out the shipyard....which it excedes at very well. By this time the enemy BC and carrier will have hypered in. Most of the carriers escorts including the BC will get distracted and try and save the shipyard. This is where your strike group of bombers come in. Swiftly take out the carrier that is unprotected and then dock the bombers.
By this time the hypered in BC had constructed the hyper module. The rest of the vagyr forces chased after my first group to my mothership just as the vagyr BC hypered right by my MS. I promptly took out its missle tubes and engines with my 14 bombers. Sending in my 4 marine frigates, it was an easy capture. I lost minimal casualties that were easily replaceable. Probably my greatest loss was in the torpedo frigate section. This didnt worry me though because I had planned to recycle them before moving on to mission 12.
All in all, waiting to take out the shipyard last is probably the best move so as to allow the vagyr a few minutes to collect some resources. The first time I did this, I had the BC take out the shipyard right away....the hypered in BC never grew its hyper module.
Hope this helps some of you get the hyper modded BC. Looks like itll help me a lot in mission 12.

I don't get it wen the vay came I slaughtered the carrier that tries to take the core piece and that was it
I sat back buildin up my fleet(no bc's) and killed the oncoming frigate waves
then the bc came with no hspace mod escorted by 8 frigs
y didn't it grow the hspace mod???????
It get's the module after a little while. It will never jump in with it.
I just found the Hyper BC the hard way.
To start the mission, I sent a squad of bombers and pulsars to destroy the carrier force that jumpts in at the start. When they got near the bottom fragement, they triggered the event, and the Vygar jumped in. The strike group wasted the fleet and headed back home. Once back, my fleet beat off an attack of Vygar frigates and destroyers, then moved out to destroy the shipyard. As my fleet was fighting it's way north, my pulsars and bombers had finished docking and were heading out when I got a hyperspace waring. That dang BC jumped right in front of my MS with a destroyer and lots of assault frigs. I had my MS, Carrier, Shipyard, two refrieneries and 10 bomber and pulsar wings. My main fleet was in a big furball at the shipyard. I knocked out the BCs engines and missles and went after the bomber-shreading assault frigs. I cleared them and got an idea. I started to pump out marine frigs to capture the BC. I lost my first few not noticing that I had disabled the BC with it's main gun pointing right at the MS's launch bay. Oops. I did loose most of my bombers and pulsars, and the carrier but gained a hyper BC. Fair trade.
no but u c
it charged at me with no hyp mod and I had to blo it up
Hmmm, I'll have to try this... I noted in this thread that the Vaygr DD seems to have a blind spot directly below itself; perhaps this trait extends to the BB (although disabling the missile tubes is a good idea in any case).Originally posted by Aerohead

Has anyone ever had the prob of not being able to find a core?
So where ARE the remaining Vaygre forces? I've collected every resource on the map and probed every where?
try sensor ping. sometimes a few vaygr collectors idle around at the upper resource patch (or even at the resource patch close to where you started out).
You don't need to kill all collectors to finish the mission. I wandered around for a while to find 2 small groups of enemy hinding out in the fog of war.
Anyone get the Hyper BC post patch?
I've recently replayed this several times, leaving the shipyard, some collectors,
and the carrier that accompanies the BC alive for a very long time. It has never
seemed to develop the module again.
puzzled,
