Uninstalling and reinstall with patches up to 2.103 took very little time. I was annoyed when the new patch went t*ts up, but what the hell, lifes too short and shouting and bawling aint gonna change anything is it?

Thanks to all admin for their continued patience and support. I have read most of the posts on the forum regarding this matter, I can't believe how many people have asked the same questions (that have already been answered) over and over again! READ the posts its all there.

There are two bridging patches: 1.0 to 1.4, and 1.4 to 2.101.

Cheers Moe, good to know about that for next time. A real shame this isn't part of the autopatcher.

Tanky, am I right in assuming you own OF and are patching from that? I'm thinking of the poor souls that don't own OF - that's a lot more patching fun.

Tanky, you have the English version of the game right? I took you a little time to reinstall right? Then you are lucky and I am happy for you but please don't be so general in your assessment of the easyness of the reinstallation. Just because it works for you does not mean that it works for everyone else just the same. Nor it is explained for every single situation and language version anywhere on this forum.

Did you think of the people who don't have English version of the game and don't have bridning patches? Probably not. And there is not much to help them other than going form 1.0 to 1.1, 1.1 to 1.2, 1.2 to 1.3 is there?

  5. #55
Sure there is. The bridging patches work the same for any language. All you need is the correct patch version in the correct language.

Yeah that I don't understand. If you log in with 1.0 it would make sense for you to get patched directly to 1.4 instead of being forced to go through the intermediate steps. Are you sure it doesn't do that? (I haven't tried it myself)

Last time was a while back, and no it didn't do that. Maybe that predated the bridging patches...

Well DatonKallandor the bridgning patch 1.0 to 1.4 does not exist for my language version under the link:

    http://thq.vo.llnwd.net/o10/CoH/reta..._140_Patch.exe

(when I substitute the letters EN for my language version - the substitution works for patches like 2.102 to 2.103, it does not work for 1.00 to 1.40)

Guess we will have to use trial and error and find something existing, like 1.00 to 1.30 and then further on.

    EDIT

    Here is an example:

    2.102 to 2.103 English
    http://thq.vo.llnwd.net/o10/CoH/reta...2103_Patch.exe

    2.102 to 2.103 Polish
    http://thq.vo.llnwd.net/o10/CoH/reta...2103_Patch.exe

both of the above exist, right?

Now try 1.0 to 1.4 Polish:

    http://thq.vo.llnwd.net/o10/CoH/reta..._140_Patch.exe

This one does not exist !!!

    Okay just to be clear..

Buggo said first of all to reinstall the game and then said "oops, no you don't have to reinstall, sorry" and just wait for the new patch out today.

Do we have to reinstall now or what? I'm confused.

Ive been a gamer for many many years, and almost exclusively online for the past 4 years or so. So i know stuff happens, i know really i do.

I dont say this to exagerate, and im sure some of you lot can find better examples. But i have never, ever had this many technical problems with a game. Ever.

I have a quad core machine, and suffered from the quad core bug for 2 months or so when OF came out. Which for those of you that dont know, meant that approx. 50% of my online games froze completely, and you had to alt-tab and shut down CoH manually. I havent the eloquence to describe to you the frustration of this.

I have been mildly annoyed at the OP of the PE, it was never a show-stopper for me, it just bugged me thats all so i was pretty excited at the prospect of a PE nerf, oh how i was looking forward to charging head-long into blobs of PE killing them all, giving them what they deserved

So i installed this sodding patch as soon as it came out , I'm seriously disapointed, this is a big cock-up as far as i can see. Most of the posts i read re: this patch, are so reasonable and understanding (not all, but most) why?

I am British, i am meant to be the calm, understated one, dunkirk spirit and all that stuff. Well i am well cheesed off with the whole thing. I have a game that hasnt worked properly for one reason or another since its release 2 months ago. Now it doesnt work at frigging all unless i uninstall etc. etc. etc.

This is highly unprofessional on the part of Relic, they released a technically bugged game, and are finally now patching it with patches that dont sodding work? If i cocked up like this at work i would be in serious trouble.

If i didnt still love the game so much i would want to shove my copy up buggos arse (sorry buggo i presume you are not personally responsible for this debacle), do bugs have arses, i dont know, some one please tell.

So i am annoyed. All this talk of 'lets be patient and wait for Relic to fully test the patch' blah, blah blah why dont we all demand that Relic gives us the quality product that we deserve. Otherwise alonside all the glowing awards they put on the games packaging, the should also add WARNING:this game although great may not work!!!!

    Damn im annoyed.

Sorry i'll go for a lie down now.

Daton, if you're going to troll, at least address the rest of his post. He's perfectly justified in being angry and his post was reasonable and calm. I'm not sure what you mean by "happens all the time" - I'm fairly certain most games don't freeze "50% of the time" and that most patches do not require a reinstall. The current situation is notable because it goes above and beyond the usual patch frustrations with Relic. If it happened all the time, every patch would require users to reinstall a back version, which is not the case.

Could anyone give us some information towards a release date? Can it be released at any time now, or is it gonna take another week or 2 of testing?

There was quite a lot wrong with it so I guess we'll be in for a long wait?

Thanks for the support starfisher, much appreciated.

It just seems to be a series of problems for me, and it gets me down. It wouldnt matter if it was a useless game, it matters because i WANT to play it.

Oh and bugs DO have arses btw, i looked it up, wonderful tool wikipedia! See what i do to entertain myself without CoH, suppose i'd best start on this re-install...........

I am wondering if that is a bug or a nerf. I am hoping it is another bug.

That's because only English needs the 1.4 patch. All other languages get to skip intermediates, so for Polish, etc you can go straight from 1.00 to 2.101 in a single patch.

The intention was there would always be an original->current and an previous->current.

DerTiger, the rules of the thread were clear and we are enforcing them. A profanity laced tirade against relic will not be tolerated. Others have expressed quite pointed dissatisfaction without resorting to such means, and I ask you to do the same. Your post above has been deleted.

Fonebook, your post has been deleted as well.

I'm doing this here rather than through PM so that everyone understands the rules of the game here. We are not in the business of suppressing legitimate concerns. We only ask that you express them calmly and if not constructively, then at least not destructively.

Manflesh, I would ask that you avoid the whole "shoving the game up Buggo's arse" thing. I see that it was in... heated jest, but if it's all the same we try to head off such commentary.

It happens all the time in the industry in general. If I have to I'll bring up BF2 yet again. They already had the roll back to a previous patch scenario - and they didn't correct it within minutes. It took them days to even acknowledge the problem, much less fix it.

  24. #74
Just because EA sucks at customer supoort doesn't mean it's ok for Relic to suck aswell.

    Relic are better than this...

Again, Daton, stop trolling. You're giving an example of one game, one patch. How is that justifying your comment of it happening 'ALL THE TIME'?

And yes, are you really satisfied that Relic was able to outperform this one game at this one time? How many other games from other companies have they performed lower than in terms of support? How bout you compare this to every other game that matters and then tell us it's all the time.

I doubt anyone here should be satisfied that Relic screwed up a patch. It's not OK. Yes, we will have to accept it but please don't give me this crap about so-and-so also did this, so it's ok.

Don't know why people are getting upset at the folks at Relic. Be thankful that they caught the bug and are actually fixing it and telling you what's going on, I know a few companies that don't even bother updating you for weeks.

So they made a mistake, they've had a great track record so far and they are working hard to fix it. Also be thankful they are releasing patches too.

with the replies they get form some people after making a fixable mistake that any person could make they could so easily have decided to stop patching the game as some members of the community dont recieve it well when the patch has problems or doesnt adress what they wanted changed.

    Daton:

I disagree. Patches that have to be rolled back does not happen "all the time". In fact, of all the game patches released (or software patches total for that matter) very few patches have to be re-called.

That it happened to Relic sucks, but there'll be quite a few takeaways from this that helps ensure this doesn't happen in the future.

It would be nice if Relic told us 2.200 wasn't the problem :-)

There really needs to be some adjustment to the QA testing portion of the patching process if such apparently patch stopping mistakes are able to make it past them. What exactly does QA testing entail?

It really is unacceptable, and reflects extremely badly on the capabilities of the company on the whole, especially considering the obvious sloppiness and rushed feel of the expansion when compared to the original game. I wonder how many more foul ups will be overlooked by the already shrinking community before jumping ship? I don't want to sound dramatic, but this really isn't a small issue that can be swept under the rug. A lot of people, myself included, have been waiting on this patch for quite some time, very shortly after buying the expansion. To download it and be told that you must reinstall and repatch makes you ask yourself if taking the time is really worth it?

For the love of crap guys. Can some of you read the stickies please?

We don't know when 2.200 will be released. There is no point asking. If there is information on the matter it will be posted, no doubt with the utmost urgency. In the sticky, at which point you will be able to read it. So if you see a flashy yellow highlighted thingy at the top of the forum, or a sticky saying 'NEWS, PATCH 2.2 INFORMATION CONTAINED WITHIN' or something to that effect, it means there is information. If you don't, it means there is none.

We understand that people want the patch, but frankly, it's already been stated multiple times that we have no other information than what has been provided, yet people continue to ask a question that cannot be answered at this moment in time.

Please, read the material that is available. We don't know any more than you guys do. Buggo will probably have an announcement when there is an update, and when there is an update, you'll know all about it. Until then, just have patience.

    Hey guys,

If anyone can help me with this It would be greatly appreciated.

I am reinstalling OF but I seem to have misplaced my CD key, its not on the back of the manual like it is with CoH. I don't knwo what I did with this CD key, is there any way of finding it? I am on hold with THQ support right now.. Thanks

Just to clarify (because there were conflicting/confusing stickies... my fault I know)... YES you do have to reinstall to 2.103 if you installed 2.200.

    Thanks.

Is it really that hard to put the game down, and do something else?

    Go to work perhaps?
Maybe even expose yourself to UV ray or two

How about PM yourself a mean ass message demanding why and when this is going to be fixed, only to open it yourself and find this is probably what everyone thinks of you "rude and fucking immature"

And this doesnt happen all the time. What does happen all the time though, is that each game seems to have bugs/issues unique to them. There are no flawless games at least on the computer I have played, but each has their own unique issues to get through.

Edit: Im guessing the bugs/issues different from game to game is along the lines being an artist, as there are many different ways to code. I am no coder, I stay away from that crap, as it scares the shit out of me. But thats my guess..

Even though I did install the eagerly awaited patch and had to reinstall the game, worse things have actually happened in my life. On a scale of one to ten I don't think I can rate the scale of inconvenience and soul destroying tedium that reinstalling the game caused to one evening in my life.

    (now seriously...)
It's simply hard to believe the overreaction by many over a great game that is a lot of fun and will continue to be when the patch is fixed.

    So, thanks for the updates!

While I agree the response was a bit heated, you'd think they'd test the patch a bit more thoroughly. I think their QA process needs an overhaul.

@ matthewdanese - "Maybe even expose yourself to UV ray or two" - classic mate!

I've just reinstalled and patched up to 2.103 again, it wasn't that big of a deal - a bit of a pain yes, but not worth losing sleep over. (I also play BF2, so I've experienced problems with patch releases before!)

Buggo, thanks for the updates, hope you guys sort things out soon, (but I for one would rather wait a bit longer if it means a better patch)

I agree about an overhaul on the QA, but going on about sacking people...

Hell, I can proof read a report till I'm blue in the face and still miss stuff in only a 30 page document, especially when I need to get it done for a deadline. We wanted the patch and people have been whining on like nothing else in their life matters. Relic rush to get it done and can't do right for trying.

i think this all can be traced back to the release of OF in september, not november.

even though version 2.0 would of been the same for a november release, 2.101 would of been much better since they would of had more time to beta test and develop a 0-day patch. This would of led to less complaints for a major balance patch(2.2), which in turn would not of caused relic to rush(as some of you claim).

as far as i recall they didnt 'release' the game early, the game was released for packaging and shipping for the november date but was ready in september so it was released

At least it hadn't yet been released for mass consumption.

In all reality the patch doesn't change all that much. You are all excited about it now, but after a game or two you will forget you even patched, and go back to your normal way of playing the game.

yes they did. how is september not earlier then november?

but my point was the fact that the 0-day patch was the thing that suffered the most from the early release. as i stated, 2.0 would of been the same. 2.101 would of been a lot better had they taken the time between sept release date and novemeber release date to fix some performance bugs and maybe some more balance tweaks that come out of beta.

I really dont want to have to reinstall CoH and OF. i mean wtf.. what kind of shit is that? Especially when they promise to fix it without the reinstall and dont.. boo..

I'm assuming those registry entries go bye-bye if you happen to uninstall the game before reinstalling it.
