Relic Want a huge piece of CoH art hanging in your room? Holiday Photo Contest 2007.

Congratulations to Finch49th1stAIF for his winning photograph! He wins his choice of concept art to be printed up huge.

Finch created an amazing Christmas scene with lots of little details. But what's really impressive about this photo is he a created a CoH Cromwell Scale model himself, with all the little details of what's available in game, right down to the kind of fabric used for the canvas rolls.

    Awesome job Finch!

And... it'll really be huge. I mean, enough to fill a large portion of your bedroom wall probably.

Any questions! Just post in this thread or e-mail me

So I take screenshot from CoH/DoW and edit it with Photoshop or similar to make it look like in the above poster?

Lets make this clear folks, if you are posting in this thread about anything but the contest your post is going to get deleted and you are likely going to be warned. If you have issues or complaints they don't go here.

This a propaganda plo...*gunshots in the background*...ok*gasps*..it is not...it is for the greater good!*looks scared towards Buggo, she nods approvingly and puts las pistol away*

Seriously though...hmm might pull a DC-athon (grades willing) soon, if it snows as well it would be perfect(the PC is close to the window, gonna be tricky getting the image of a ork war boss ripping a SM's guts out in the same shot as the peaceful snow falling down, nothing would say Merry Christmas like that would).

Does the picture have to be taken by the author of the final submission or can we grab a Google image find and heavily Photoshop it into Reliceyness? It only rains here these days, no snow expected anytime soon .

More points if you take the photo yourself

Remember, this is a PHOTOGRAPH contest, not a Photoshop contest... even though Photoshopping IS allowed as long as you include an original photo. Hope that clears things up

It's meant for everyone to be able to participate just by only needing a digital or regular camera

I don't like the winning entry.

The tank was done regardless of the contest, and the stuff around it surely didn't take much to create.

This was IMHO the best entry, and I have no idea why it didn't win: http://gentryx.de/~gentryx/relic1copy.jpg

There's a discussion over at gr.org, where I got the link to the original picture.

There's also a link to their contest thread, here:

Thanks eins, that was kind of my idea behind it: To take a Christmas photo and load it up with some CoH details. Did you spot the Wehrmacht HQ?

It was fun to make, but did also take an awful lot of time. The original shot was the first challenge: there's only a time window of about half an hour a day when the light is right (not too bright so the lights of the stables won't give a warm atmosphere, not too dark so the rest would be pitch dark). In this time I had to find an elevated position, as the ant's perspective wouldn't look very CoH. When I went to the city first, I didn't find one. The second time I finally found one from within a (closed) sports bar (the guy cleaning up there was very friendly and let me in nevertheless). I took a bit more than 70 photos until I got the framing, aperture, exposure and iso right.

I admit that some of the photoshopping looks a bit crappy (e.g. I was to lazy to find the original font they used for the wording), but still taking screenshots of all the stuff I wanted to put in (e.g. an unmanned Flak) and pasting it in took another 5 hours (1am to 6am, god was I tired). But it was an adventure (I'd have been way to shy to ask at the bar if I hadn't "been on a mission", I don't like being intrusive) and it was fun, having won or not

If you ask me, GentryX deserves the first prize as well.
