Orks USMC "An Orky painting blog" (Updated 23 January) Big Pictures!

A note from the author... I know thread necromancy is frowned upon but I hope the Moderators will forgive me in this case. As I said in the original post my objective was to have the army assembled buy march of 2008. This was because my Unit was scheduled to deploy in April.

    We deployed early...

But I'm back now and fully intend to see this blog to its conclusion. A fully Painted, Characterful, and reasonably Competitive Ork Warband to be entered in the first GT that I can get to.

Nice conversions there. I look forward to seeing more.
Comments: Bigger pics please! It's easier to comment and we can admire your work more readily.
From here I think your ork teeth are a bit mono-toned white. Personally a sprinkle of a hint of pale yellowish colours (I use a mix of sunburst and ironically graveyard earth... makes plaque. 50-50.) If your orks do brush their teeth to a pearly white ignore that comment.
    Nice tank!

I like the Ork paint scheme but I think the skin needs a bit work..

Are you going to highlight it up using some goblin green?

  5. #5
I love the idea. I wonder, though, how many people catch the references you're making

That is priceless. PRICELESS!!! Seeing as my dad was a Kommando, (1st Marines @ Pendleton and later 3rd Marines @Camp Schwab, Okinawa), I get most of these right off the bat. If you wanted to have some fun with a few 'glory boys', why not take some inspiration from here

    Orks Update #1

    WIP

The weapons need to be dirtied, but weathering aside my first 4 boyz are done. When I first started I was worried that the green uniforms would not provide enough contrast with the green skin. But looking at these I don't think it will be a problem.

    Re: Cybermurph
The Sherman is 1/35 scale, I bought it at a toy store for $20.

    Re: Motherland
    Bigger pictures, as requested.

    Old paint job

    Re: EaSTERNVolKs
I have a lot of models to paint and not much time to paint them. So the rank & file troops will just have to make do, but rest assured that Nobz and Characters will be done proper.

    Re: Fannin & Brother Armand
Glad you like it, If you have any Ideas/Suggestions for further references/conversions I am all ears.

    alternate angles

He's a standard Warboss model with a mili-putt hat and cigar. He came together fast, (so fast that I forgot to take a WIP pic) All told the conversion took less than 30 minutes.
Work on the rest of the army was been a little slow (holiday obligations) but I've got the next few days off and should be able to make some real progress.

Never before has something so good come out of something so Very Very Bad.
I'd suggest, if I might, playing around with tattoos.
Otherwise, it looks great, a tasteful response to all the ponce's and their tasteless nazi themes.

    Update #3

    Boyz, Jeep, Gun...

    Miscellaneous bits of progress...

5 more boyz + a grot gunner(in background), Helmets and packs on the boyz are from a 1/35 scale kit that you'll see below. The grot's helmet was cut from a plastic army man.

Love the helmets, they really work nicely. One thing I would say though is that good as the warbuggy conversion is, I'd say you should raise the rocket launchers up on a stand of some kind - they're too low down in the bodywork of the jeep at the moment. Raise the three tubes up by maybe half an inch on some kind of framework assembly, it'd look better. IMO.

Your a freaking god . Gread job on the conversions and i especially lova all the old WW2 stuff your boys have "borrowed" from the Americans ^^.

I would just keep it coloured similerly to the rest of your vehicles. And it could be called the Stompy Dude .

    OR

You could paint it pink and give it a skirt, calling it Lord Of Pie, but thats just a suggestion.
"Celtic fans right now sit in silence and watch, and hope that the damage doesn't get any worse from this Graham Carey free kick. Away by Wilson. Teale. Still options waiting in the middle for St. Mirren...OH, AND THEY HAVE ANOTHER ONE! It's stunning! It's absolutely stunning at Hampden park! And it's Steven Thompson, who scores his thirteenth goal of the season, and that might just be the goal that takes St. Mirren into the league cup final!" - 27/01/2013

I love the Stompa! I am wondering though, paint aside, how will it fit into the rest of your theme (ex:your theme is more easy to recognize due to the hats ect)?

The Stompa is actually for a contest, but I felt like showing off.

Primer, base-coat, highlights, ink wash, weathering/fine details

I'll do a step-by-step on my next character, until then its hard for me to help you without some specific questions.

    Update #4.5

I've had a dew people ask me about the helmets so here is the down/dirty.

I have two methods, the 1st is to use "green stuff" or "milli-put" and the 2nd is to steal them from plastic army men.

Step 1: Cut helmet off of a plastic army man.

Step 2: Cut the top off of a plastic Ork head.

    Step 3: Glue

Now you have an Ork with a helmet

Sandwich, I found some Orkz that I believe your boyz would never team up with

I thought it funny that I'd come across them after viewing yours for the past week(s?)

Perhaps you could arrange a battle between the two

Meh to those. The models are well-converted, but I wouldn't even play with someone who had an army like that.

The conversion is so simple - but so well done and effective!
Anyway, I'm looking forward to more of these models, perhaps a Deff Kopta next?

As for those German-Orkz, they're nicely painted, but I prefer these orkz and ol' Chesta Pulldat (they're more fluff-y).

Found this in the scrap bin at the local hobby shop and knew immediately what had to be done.

The model was missing its wings and lower fuselage but thats nothing some plasticard cant fix. The nice thin about Orks is that its BETTER if the bitz don't line up right.

Update Numba 7 1/2 (Orky Taktikul Bomba OTB)

I decided to do some more work on the "Avenga!" after I took those pictures. I added some plasticard/"worky bitz" to the underside to fill in the missing fuselage sections, and started on the rear gunner's station.

So my ass gets deployed for 8 months and how does GW repay me? The change all the rules, and discontinue some of my favorite colors.

Well the joke is on them, while I was gone my girl bought a full set of Vallejo Paints .

I was home for about 3 weeks before I got the itch to paint but the weather yesterday was nice and the lighting perfect. So I set up shop on the porch and got to work.

The UBA STOMPY MUARADA CORPS fresh out of the closet. (er I mean storage)

My first 4 minis in 8 months!

3 More! Colored Checks, Hazard Stripes, and other patterns will distinguish the different Mobz.

I really like the Vallejo "Shade" (Ink) It goes on very easily, and mixes well with the metalics (as seen on this Boy's shoota)

Very nice Orks. Not exactly the most extravagant scheme, but they look solid en mass and the idea of differentiating the different Mobs with colored checks and stuff is a good one. I like the coloration, and the military drab scheme works nicely!

My personal belief is that it's not necessarily thread necromancy if it's 1) your own damn thread, and 2) worthwhile additions to the thread in question. I'd say you've covered both bases fairly well.

Looking forwards to more! Funny how things around here lately have mostly either gone decidedly Orky or Space Marine-y...

    Welcome back!

I love this army. It's just fantastic. I can't wait to see more. You'll be happy to know that the orks did get a decent bump with the new rules, so this army is even better than when you left, if that's any consolation!

Wow, im not exagerating when I say that these are the best Orks ive ever seen. It's not just the painting or the awesome WW II theme you've given them, they ooze personality. And that plane you've made virtually from scratch, simply awesome.

    10/10 mate!
