    Limits of Homeworld 2 Modding??

What are the limits of HW2 Modding??
Can we add a completeley new 3rd or 4th race or do we have to replace one of the existing races??
what is the largest ship size useable by the player??
What is the highest Polly count reccomended for a player ship??
If we cant add more races will it be possible to add more ships, or will we be stuck replacing the ships that are allready there??
Will it be possble to change the hyperspace effect to something like B5 jumpgate??

Thx for your answers in advance.

This may have been posted elsewhere but I cant find it so I thought I would make a new thread and you guys can point me in the right direction if it has been done.

Dont know about the new races, i hope its possible, but its unlikely.
Im sure you can make ships as large as you want.

The mothership is about 6000 -7000 polys in full detail. I dont know if theres a limit, but anything over 10000 polys will just slow down the game just a bit.....

Dunno about the ships either, it will be good to add more classes and more ships, but u will have to wait for the developers tools, which should be released.....about 5 hours ago.

Hyperspace effect shouldnt be much of a problem to change.

    Ah but how many.

I mean for say somit like a startrek mod can we have all 4 major races from federation/klingon/romulan/cardasian_with _dominion.

Or for babylon 5 the EA/Minbari/Narn/Centauri

Even tho such a mod is a hell of alot of work, could it be done?

Oh and is the weapons gfx, are they race specific or are the weapons the same for all races like hw1 was?

And can u add weapons to hw2 without replacing other hw2 original ones, for instance.

And for hyperspace gate is there possibility of having a warp in animation and a warp out animation. For instance the babylon5 jumpgate. As in hw1 there was only one aniamtion which ruined the effect from being complete.

Has the question about whether the modding tools for Maya will work with newer versions Maya been answered? If they only work on Maya 3.0 then how is anybody going to get that software?

The effects in HW1 ARE race-specific.

Don't assume that the same limitations of HW1 modding will hold true for HW2. I had a pretty good hunch that you could add races to HW2 due to a simple fact...the entire game is created in a very open way. For example, in skirmish/multiplayer instead of, for example, having two buttons, one for Vaygr and one for Hiigaran, you have instead a drop down menu...which would allow for many more selections.

Many more of the options are designed in this open manner, such as *Shock Horror* the Game Type drop down menu. Many people asked why this had a drop down menu when there was only one option. So why? You can add your own via modding is the obvious answer.

Instead of having ship slots in a menu ala HW1, which you can only modify, you have tab menus with a list of ships under each tab. This means to me that you can add more ships. So next time you are thinking about what you can add in HW2, think about how that specific thing is implemented already...and if it easily allows for modification. :yippee:

Correction - The Hiigaran Mothership is over 8500 polys without any subsystems in place.

And thanks for that info Mecha. This creates a significant number of possibilities
