    COH Launcher v2.4 - Play .SGA maps SKIRMISH/ONLINE - Updated 31st Mar 2009

OK the new COH 2.400 patch is out, map support still has not been fixed officially. The support is now actually even worse than before because any map played from "Documents\My Games\Company of Heroes\WW2\Scenarios" will instant crash the game no matter is it skirmish or online game.

I updated the launcher and it should work OK with the regular game but NO MODS are supported at this time. Mod support might come later after ToV has been released.

Download REMOVED, see last post http://forums.relicnews.com/showthre...43#post3488343

This is, by far, some of the best modding/map related news I have heard in a long time. Great job, thanks!

Aniketos figured it out by the way, origionally for the gamereplays.org custom maps tournament, since .sgb maps were kindof buggy for some people

not exactly, your talking about something different here ? you dont need to convert anything, just click "add new map" and add all the sga files you want to play online.

    SGA amps online

    Great effort Mannerheim.

Is there any way I could get this launcher to work with a mod so that .sga maps could also be played with mods and not just vanilla?

    Cheers

It works with mods as well, just choose your mod from the drop down menu.

    Greetings.
We have read this topic and made ourselves some maps on some battle between TW Nationalists vs Chinese Communists in 1949. The maps has been trasilated from sgb files into sga, but we still cant play it with your COH Launcher.

We have put the program into the COH folder, with

    sga files under
    C:\Documents and Settings\Martin\My Documents\My Games\Company of Heroes\WW2\Data\Scenarios\mp\Zontsu8p-CT

    map files under
    E:\Company of Heroes\WW2\Data\Scenarios\mp\Zontsu8p-CT

    and
    E:\Company of Heroes\maps\ZonTsu8p

but we still cant play it.

    Please help = w =

yes hi i am new here. i downloaded this added maps started the game not in -dev mode and in -dev mode and the maps still dont appear in my game anywhere in skirmish or multiplayer

  24. #24
Some of my caln mates who run Vista dont seem to be able to get this launcher working? any ideas? They install the COH laucher in the COH directory, but when they go to add a new map it cant find the game COH?

Kimi looks like you installed the application in the wrong spot, just cut and paste it into C:\Program Files\THQ\Company of Heroes. The just browse for your .sga file using the launcher and go open.

hi I put the coh launcher in the coh directory. I added the D-Day Coop v1.2on both pcs and still we cant join each other. We are running this through via hamachi lan. the normal maps work fine just different maps.
    thanks

I have the same problem as mitch044.

We both use the launcher to add the maps and start the game with it. We both see the maps in our list but as soon as I choose a custom map that we got both installed my friend gets kicked from the game. (or he can't join respectively)

We also use hamachi to connect (we have both bought the game and also log in to relic server). We also tried through the official MP but that won't work either.

One last thing. I have only installed Opposing fronts while he has also installed COH-Original.

We would be really thankful for your help with this
    TIA

No we both played without the dev first. We then tried playing both with the dev ... and it still doesnt work

I would love to use your great tool to play some custom maps.. we are just wondering why everyone seems to get it to work but us ..

    Thanks for your support. =]

Well not sure, its worked 100% for me online (havent tried lan). The grey game or autokick means there is version, starting parameters or modified attribute files conflict. Some mod could have placed files in wrong place and it messing the version. Are you sure both has the same map version and it works in skirmish (so the file is not broken)

we will both fresh install this afternoon .. clean everything and then add 2 identical maps and try again .. maybe that solves the problem .

Thank you very much for your support and of course your prog..
I will report back as soon as we tried it again ..

(and yes .. the map worked in skirmish) =]

No, ive played fine with people who have different system and installs like one has only vcoh, one only coh: of, etc. Only once it didnt work and that was because my friend had some files left after removing some mod and those messed it up.

I've installed your launcher in the same directory as the RelicCOH.exe but when I click "Start the game" it acts like it wants to but doesn't. I see the RelicCOH.exe process in the task manager but it doesn't start.

    ** UPDATE **
Ok, it runs now (not sure what I did... maybe you just need to run CoH once after installing the launcher??). But now it shows that I have TWO copies of all the downloaded maps. Still have yet to try and see if I can connect to others...

    *** UPDATE 2 ***
Ok, it now shows ALL the maps (downloaded and original using both the "-dev" and no "-dev") but my friends (both using the launcher and not) cannot join my games. They can see them, but they are just all greyed out. The maps work (I've played them in skirmish) but I'm very confused now.

does steam affect any of this? like where to put the files? i couldnt get it to work on the first try but i just now reinstalled the launcher and i deleted dday and im reinstalling.

when i open the launcher. it says
    error
could not find company of heroes (C:\Program Files\THQ\Company of Heroes\)
but when i do OK it takes me to the launcher.

when i open the launcher, i cut and paste the map sga file and it shows up in the launcher. i can see the picture of it in the box. when push start game, its says
START ERROR ( cannot open file...)

Help would be mucho appreciated. and spell out everything, im not good with all this stuff.

EDIT: nvm, dont know what the heck i did but i fixed it haha.

I am having the same problem as Spaz0. Two friends and myself are trying to play custom maps online but they show up greyed out. We have tried with and without the -dev command, and the launcher in this thread. We can all play the maps in skirmish but games are greyed out saying that we do not have the map, but we do. They are in the correct locations.

We really enjoyed Henry666's maps and had to convert some of them to SGA from SGB by loading them in the world builder then exporting them, but we still can not get them to work =(.

Have you checked that files are really ie. at "C:\Games\Company of Heroes\maps\" (open maps folder) and "C:\Documents and Settings\User\My Documents\My Games\Company of Heroes\WW2\Scenarios\" has nothing? do any errors come up you launch the game?

To be sure, we placed all the maps in both "C:\Users\UserName\Documents\My Games\Company of Heroes\ww2\scenarios" and in the "C:\Program Files\THQ\Company of Heroes\WW2\Data\scenarios\mp" folders, each under their own folder name.

Maps should be only in ""C:\Program Files\THQ\Company of Heroes\Maps\" for the launcher and my documents shouldnt have any, any other location will probably result in coh using the old sga load method that is broken

Shouldn't the path actually be ...

    ..\THQ\Company of Heroes\WW2\Scenarios\MP\

Doesn't the MP portion have to be there?

Also, I've done fresh installs with both CoH:V and CoH:OF disks, each to no avail.

well my friend and I put all the maps in "C:\Program Files\THQ\Company of Heroes\Maps\" and removed them from the other two places, still no luck. Now none of the maps show up for me to play, but the launcher shows them.

EDIT: Well that apparently fixed it for my two friends, but I still cant see any of the maps now when i'm in the game. The launcher sees all the maps, but when COH loads none of them show up to play under Multilayer OR Skirmish.

Ok, here is the fix. Under Vista the launcher MUST be ran as Administrator.

    Spaz0: nope

"..\THQ\Company of Heroes\Maps\" for .SGA maps you want to use with this launcher (work online)
"..\My Documents\My Games\Company of Heroes\ww2\scenarios" for .SGA maps you want to play without launcher (WONT work online)
"..\THQ\Company of Heroes\WW2\Scenarios\MP\" for .SGB maps (need -dev)

Maps should have only one version in ONE location at the same time.

Boris: Good thing you solved it

  47. #47
Tried the programme and it worked well.
    Thank you for creating this.

My two friends use the 3rd option and can get it to work. However, when I put in the -dev command, I can see and play (in skirmish) the games but can't join them.

The only thing that they said could be an issue (and I'm not sure AT ALL how it could be) is that in their shortcut to RelicCoH.exe, it has quotation marks. Looks something like...

    Code:
    "..\THQ\CoH\RelicCOH.exe" -dev
Mine, however, when I try and place the quotation marks into the line and hit apply, they disappear as if they aren't needed and the computer automatically removes them.

The files I (and everyone else) have located in the Data\Scenarios\MP folder are...

    Code:
    Maddness3.info
    Maddness3.sgb
    Maddness3_ID.scar
    Maddness3_mm.tga
    Maddness3_tml.tga

-dev is always bad for online, it enables cheats, developer utils/logging and stuff that might decrease game performance. Sometimes it just works so poorly that you cant join games ever even with same version/map.

Its designed for mapping/modding phase only and not for the actual playing mode... ready maps/mods should be in .sga format always
