Hello all!
It was almost by accident that I stumbled across these forums. I remember the great days of Homeworld and Cataclysm modding. Well, for those that don't know or remember, I was the guy that wrote several audio editing tools way back in the day. This was around 2001-2002 era.
Building off the success of people like Delphy, Crook and others, I jumped in and decided to contribute my own tools. One was called HWSS (Homeworld Sound Studio). The other was VCEPacker (voice files creator). The original idea was to have the VCE stuff within HWSS, but I ran out of time, and had to release them separately.
Keep in mind, these were during the days when we learned how to make tools the hard way... lots of experimentation, hex editing and begging the Relic devs for hints.
Anyway, while looking for an old Hex editor we used a lot back then, I stumbled across a yahoo briefcase I'd set up to hold all of the old tools created and used by the Mod community back then. They were still all there! This included some VERY hard to find versions of public tools, as well as documents, tutorials, etc.
Unfortunately, my old HWSS and VCEPacker weren't in there, but after some googling around, I found an OLD OLD OLD webpage hosted by my former ISP, that STILL HAD MY OLD STUFF THERE. This included source code, final builds, and even quick-start HTML guides.
Well, guess what... I'm going to pack them all up and try to make every thing available for the modders that are still around! This is a big gift to the homeworld faithful. Some of my best memories are due to this game and the fans. I want you guys to have everything we had in case you want to keep playing with these tools.
I'll admit, some of my stuff (well most of it), was and is incomplete. For example, there was a music glitch in the HWSS that necessitated using Delphy's WXH editor. HWSS was pretty much for BNK (sound effect banks) editing, and the VCEPacker will do a complete rebuild of the VCE (voice) files in one shot, not a sentence here or there.
However, the VB6 source is there if you want to play with it.
The final version of HWSS (1.37beta) removed the need for an audio editor DLL that plagued earlier versions.
I'll try to get this all zipped up and uploaded somewhere and make a link available.
Okay, I've zipped it up into a nearly 38 MB file and used Bigupload.com to host it.
Follow the link here:
Hwtools.Zip by Bigupload.Com

And post if you have any problems with it... there will be a 30 second wait, then you enter some code on their webpage.
This is everything I could find pertaining to HW1 and HWC modding. I've probably missed a few tools that came out after I left the community.
As for my stuff (HWSS and VCEPacker), they are under the editors->sound section. You really should read the quick_SFX and VCEhelper html guides, as they won't make sense otherwise.
The code for my stuff is there if anyone wants to make use of it. Have at it!
