I just got my SM Commander. I've put on all the weapons and stuff but I don't know whether I should choose the Iron Halo or the Company Banner?? I don't quite get the "+4 Invulnerable save". Please advise, thanks!!![]()

Read the main rulebook.
Well I can't find it can you tell me which page it's on?
mods, permission to just tell the guy? invulnerable saves are commonly mentioned enough that anyone trying to fish for rules would find them in a day or so anyways. besides, i certainly was confused about how armour saves/armour piercing/invulnerables worked when i started 40k!
Get the Iron Halo. +4 Invu means that you can use that save for any instant wounding hits.
i just found out what the rule means i'm all good now.
BTW I've decided my commander's gears now:
Purity Seal
Master-Crafted Lightning Claw
Bolt Pistol
Iron Halo
is it good or a little overpriced?

Ok, first of all, kindly don't post individual points costs in threads. It's right there in the rules sticky why we can't allow people to do this
Next, please take care to put your threads in the correct section. If it wasn't for the fact you were new to the forums, this ordinarily would be locked, but the sections themselves are fairly self explanatory. Strategy and Army lists for things like what to put on units/how to use them/what to use them with, etc, Painting and Modelling for the obvious, Backstory and Fluff for the obvious, Rules Discussions for the obvious.
It's all fairly straightforward really
In any case, I'll move this to strategy. Kindly review the forum and section rules at some point, since it'll not only make your life here easier, but ours as well
Possibly not quite the welcome you were hoping for, but welcome anyway![]()
First off how many points is your army? It's a tendency for new players to overload their commanders. Not only that, but what kind of army do you have? Commander should really be one of the last units you make. Commanders should be made to fit an army, not the other way around.
Now, onto your commander:
- Purity seals are useless, get rid of them and save yourself points.
- Either take two lightning claws or don't any. It's useless to have just one. And don't master craft it, since you already get the re-roll for having two lightning claws
- Either get a power sword to complement the bolt pistol or do the above
- The Iron Halo is a good choice, keep it.
thanks for your advise.
that's right, I just started my army (only have a 10 man tactical squad(flamer+missile) and a scouts squad(4 snipers+1 missile)
So I just make it: bolt pistol+power sword+iron halo?
I want to have kind of a balanced army. ex. strong guys at the front with some long range supporting from the back.
I'm understanding more and more of Space Marines now![]()
Correction, you get to re-roll rolls to wound (as opposed to a roll to hit which master crafting grants) with a single LC just as well, the benefit of 2x LC is +1 A.And don't master craft it, since you already get the re-roll for having two lightning claws
Not a prudent way to kit out a squad. ML = long range anti tank, flamer = short range anti infantry. Both mixed together in 1 sqd may seem to give it flexibility, but in the end one of the two weapons will always do nothing.10 man tactical squad(flamer+missile)
Cowards die in Shame!
why wouldn't it? you can combat squad them, i think...or is combat squadding still not happening in codex: smurfs?
if it's not, i'd agree with cassidy. swap out the flamer for a plasma gun, your tac-squad box should have come with all 3 special weapon choices.
what does the power sword do?(totally can't find it in the codex/rulebook)
My friend told me that either take two LC or don't at all, too, but he said purity seals aren't bad..
I want my commander to be at the front of the battle and a badass slaughterer![]()
Unless you kit him out with a shitload of wargear. Then he can be a badass point-sinkHe can't be too terribly badass..
But anyways, Chr, you have a couple of choices and a couple of mandatories:
1st Mandatory: Get Another Tac Squad. Missile and Plasma Why? Because scouts, while great, shouldn't really be used in the role that SM fill. Get another full tac squad.
2nd Mandatory: Get a unit of 10 Assault Marines (so that means two boxes of them). Since you want your commander to be a 'CC Monster' make 9 ASM, and save the last jump pack for the commander. IMHO, you should get a Chappie and give the jump pack to him, but the Jump Pack'd Commander will be just as good.
1st Choice: Get a unit of Terminators. This would work well because they can fulfill either the 'sit back and shoot' role or the 'up close and personal' role. If you're really geared for more Up close and personal, make them Assault Terminators and give the ASM and Scouts a Teleport Homer.
2nd Choice: Get a unit of Devastators. They're Devastators, they kill things.

I'm sure most would argue that for a CC monster he should take a Chappy instead, if possible. Litanies of Hate is just too good a bonus, and the difference in cost, taking into account the Rosarius too means that unless you need the leadership, a Chaplain would be better.
I know you said this, it's just that the FC isn't really 'just as good' as the Chappy in combat, if I'm being a really pedantic ass :P
With Duty and Service.
K'tan.
I herd u liek Necrons
a librarian can be a cc beast as welljust give him might of heros, iron halo and termie armor chuck him in a cc termie squad and watch the carnage also if u atach a carackter to a squad like termies and u take the special skills does the carachter get the skill?
i'm assuming you mean veteran skills. in that case, it would depend on whether or not the squad that buys the skill is a command squad for that character. if so, then yes.
also, check your spelling before you post, please.
yah sorry about speel but mean just if you have no mercy no respite as a trait and you take a jump pack chappy and attach him to a jump squad that has furious assault does he get the bonus for furious assault also? ps. sorry for the off topic question
anyway the chaplain or librarian is the best for a cc beast the libby's more exspensive but you get more than the chappy. ie: psycic powers, force weapon, familiar.
In return, you get a fearless sqd, a free 4+ invuln sv and Litanies with the chappy. The libby doesn't get more stuff, just different.
Where special rules such as furious assault apply to ICs attached depends on the special rule. Look it up in the BBB. Unless BBB states that the bonus applies to the IC as well, it does not.
Oh and models with termie armour cannot purchase Iron Halo, and even if they could it would be a waste of pts since TA already grants an invuln sv.
@ firestorm: No, no combat sqds in the current SM codex.
@ chr: power sword is a power weapon (duh), check BBB, CC section, "Special Close Combat Attacks" (or something similar), pg 46.
