God Units Epic - Void Dragon

This Mod is a series of battles set at Super Epic Scale. It depicts the awakening of
The Dragon from its dormancy within Mars, and the chaos that ensues.

As this is set a Epic Scale, normal infantry units cannot be represented (and,
in all fairness, wouldn't be of much use against the Dragon anyway). This is
a gigantic battle featuring gigantic opponents - The Dragon, The Necropolis
and the Monoliths Vs the Adeptus Mechanicus Titans and the Super-Heavy
War Machines of the Imperial Guard. Titans replace Infantry, and Mega-Tanks
    replace the Vehicles.

The plan is to have three battles at Super-Epic and one at Skirmish Level (Standard):

Battle One: Necropolis Surfaces - Necropolis and Monoliths Vs Light Titans and
    IG Super Heavy Support

Battle Two: Void Dragon Manifests - Dragon, Necropolis, Monoliths and Necron
Super Heavies vs Emperor, Warmonger and Psy Titans

Battle Three: Drop-Pod manages to land within the Necropolis. Inquisition and
Grey Knight High Command vs Necron Horde and the Deceiver.

Battle Four: Mars Orbit. Fully manifested Dragon Vs Phobos and Deimos
    Defensive Fleet.

WOW! We are doomed, Emperor Help u!

Edit: I just imaged how cool it would be to see the Emperor using the Force Commander's Sync Kill against the Bloodletter on the Void Dragon.

Can there be ANY REMOTE ARGUMENT that this is perhaps the best and only perfect representation of the illusive VOID DRAGON? Me thinks QUITE so.

I can only say one thing OMI (Oh My Imperator).
Maybe void dragon is one of the best units modeled and textured in all the mods.
It will be great to play this.

that is the last way i imagined the void dragan to look like, but this is so much more creative. what gave you the idea for multiple heads? their un-emotive faces send chills down my spine, and the story for the screenshots fills me with a sense of dread. i wouldn't mind not playing this, that post is enough on its own. great job, tis truely an epic

looks like there going to need a fair few mega-bolters at anyrate to dent that beasty

Let no man look up into the sky with hope, for it is we who awake the dragon...

What can mere mortals do against such power, the high lords of Terra thought the tryanids were the ultimate threat...but to have that in your backyard...emperor protects.

The multiple faces of the void dragon remind me of something mind. Of some ancient mythical god who could see into the past, future and the present. Someone will probably tell me who it is in a post soon :P. I have to say..the work done here is beyond, well alot of things. Excellent work and a amazing artistic view upon the void dragon considering there is no real pictures of him/her/it from Games Workshop.

nice concept... though, and i do hate being the bearer of possible baqd news... do you have GW's permission to do this?

on a different note... i think you have captured what the void dragon would look like perfectly! though personally i dont think it would be really THAT big

There really isn't anything you can say for something about this.

I'd say it's awesome, but that seems like a disservice.

So I'll just sit here twitching.

Also to the fellow above me; Arent you allowed to add any unit/thing from the 40k universe as long as it's IN the universe?

Only policy regarding modding DoW I have seen was about inserting things/people from another universe in-game, which is forbidden.

    I dont know everything, though...

Moru, with that thing you could be an awesome 3D artist for Games Workshop, especially when it can butt-rape the entire 40K universe just because of pure awesomeness!

Wait, does the 40K universe even have... a butt?! Now I wouldn't want to know that.

How the hell can you NOT LIKE what isn't even official anyway? Someone needed to do something but since GSW hasn't then? Life can be utterly dull so BE CREATIVE. This VD is utterly alien and fits the motif and the mystery and is also the ULTIMATE expression of human creativity.

@Thud - Moru has embodied something that previously only existed in imagination - if your own personal void dragon was different then I think you can be allowed to not like it. It's like when you watch a film adaptation of a book.

What you can't say is that it's bad, but you are allowed to dislike it.

Not true. Copyright law doesn't take into account whether a profit is made by either party. That said, the key to it is that this is his artistic interpretation of what the Void Dragon would look like... it isn't meant to be an official representation, obviously. Think of it as being the same as custom conversions for the TT game... folks can create what they think the units would look like in that way as well.

    Also, great job Moru!

Dude, this is the stuff on nightmares. I actually shivered when I saw the void dragon. The detail is amazing and the creation of such an awe inspiring creature from such little info shows the markings of a great mind.

One can NOT LIKE it because taste IS NOT based on collective concensus, but personal interpretation. UNOFFICIAL does not equal MUST BE LIKED. Twisting your statement, heck, how can you like it since it ain't official? BE UNCREATIVE and blindly follow the same tastebuds as other people, even if the tastebuds tell you to jump of a cliff. And the VD is utterly alien and fits the motif and the mystery if YOU LIKE the way it has been interpreted. Ultimate expression of human creativity? I'd say that's discriminating towards absolutely every other artist out there... and by that I don't mean that the VD is an awful work, but because combined with the rest of your statement, you're basically saying that everything else is less valuable than his VD.

Oh, and not every revolution is a good one.

    @moru:
Congratulations. I'll be straight honest and say that I'm not very fond of it, but that's because it personally doesn't fit my taste (I actually feel it looks a bit chubby rather than strong and intimidating). Nevertheless, it's a great technical feat and shows an enormous amount of skill that I'm pretty sure I can never surpass. Once again, congrats, you deserve that!

Mate, as much as I like your posts sometimes:
This one is not so great.

Not everyone has to like it, we are not living in nazi Germany, soviet Russia, North-Korea, and oppressive China.
There's many things that look wrong with this model, for instance: What the hell is the polygon count on this thing? Appears to be too much for DoW.
(And don't come with that BUY BETTER HARDWARE arguement you came up with last year on a thread in this very forum, it doesn't work.)
And the art style, while good looking: Does not fit in with the rest of DoW, which is my main issue with this thing.
You don't seem to get this ;].

Now, whilst life can be dull. And being creative is very important.
This thing here, is not the holy grail of human creativity you are making it out to be.
3D wise, there is far better stuff out there.
And too be honest, the ultimate human expression does not exist, so don't you dare to say it again in the future ;/.

This is a new revolution for all of War40k what has happened here this morning circa Jan 19, 2008.
Not really, that would be the 5th edition rulebook, coming out in the summer of 2008.

I looked up some stuff for Fair Use laws and you are correct--taking profit into account is actually a common misinterpretation of that law.

Nonetheless, I can't see a scenario where making this would be deemed copyright violation. If there was a Void Dragon image already by GW, his making a mod of it would be no different than the Witch Hunters, Tyranid, or Daemonhunters mods. So the only situation where I could see him actually needing GW's permission at all would be for if he were going to try selling this thing as the Void Dragon. I don't think even the name is copyrighted.

Ha! Awe-inspiring is the word. Not quite what I was expecting, but VERY impressive nevertheless.

What is the story behind the five heads? The ones on the left shoulder look a lot younger than the ones on the right, the central one looks fully mature - a portrayal of a death/rebirth cycle of sorts?
