    You mentioned the adorably violent arco-flagellant. I remember laying hands on one, first model I ever got, I named him "Buzz" (It was when I was around 8, my mind was somewhat...dimmer than it is now, as is usual, and he was named after his right-hand weapon, a buss saw) I painted him best I could, it was a little messy around the Inquisitorial symbol, I repaint him now and again, each time improving, when I go into the Wakefield GW (where I got him, and I prefer it to the more local Leeds GW) I take him with me as a mascot, hell, those are good times... That is all.

    hello fellow modders,

    we are making lots of progress on the mod, technically speaking we got a new GUI i with more scar button and hero slots added so that your team of heretic hunter killer is now fully displayed on screen.
    i have undertaken a complete rework of the various screen used in the game so you may find darkness within more dark than your standard vanilla game. see example below.

    daemons of tzeench : especially flamer of tzeench , and screammers, are they FoK mod? if so i need the authorization of the mod team for sure !

    Except POK/FOK mod there are also TS mod (where Thudo is current Team Leader) with probably there are some other models with tzeench theme. Just need to "restore some relations"

    Maybe to reduce the size of the campaign mod download it might better to make TS mod a required mod, as we've already got a massive download a possibility with the full voice acting and music plus the huge amount of new objects and textures. JL, if you could maybe get on the TS beta list so we could use that as a base. The benefits are;-

    +TS would remain a standalone and we'd simply use their units from their mod
    +Reduced DL for the ASID campaign.

    The only bad point would be we'd now have THREE mods as required mods, and people might get a bit pissed at having to download so much stuff.

    the big load is only caused by the fact that we ship every assest each time even unnecesary ones (we got tons of unused decals and texture and custom objects not used in the current build ) but once it will be cleaned of unnecessary ones the load will be less heavy than today, i think we are going to have a 2.5Go final product.
    and we have not yet seen what the sga compression would produce.
    i'm not too fond about calling on more mods than the two inquisition ones for the moment.

    thus said, i'm open to any suggestion.

    Whether this campaign will work normally with mods including Inquisition Deamonhunt mod? For example such as Ultimate Apocalypse mod or Galaxy in fire.

    There will be no multi-player aspect of this mod, the multiplayer button is removed from the main screen so you can't even try so the answer is no, this is absolutely a single player experience only.

    I know that it extremely single player mod and is sincerely glad to this as for a long time waited for something similar. Whether I only wanted it will learn normally to work if Inquisition Deamonhunt mod is started together with these mods or to me will come to start it separately what to play campaign.

    You must start this mod on it's own seperately. To get it to work you must already have Inquisition DH and Adeptas Sororitas installed. This mod will need those mods to work it will look in your install to make sure you have those installed.,

    to be very clear : if you have not installed both the Inquisition Daemonhunt mod AND the Adepta Sororitas mod then the Darkness Within mod will crash when you choose to launch it in the dark crusade mod manager. period.
    and no tweaking or modifying of the Darkness Within can make it work without these two mods.

    note : i do hope that we will be able to make a russian translation of the mod given the vast dow community present in "russia" and the helpfull contribution given by "russian" dow community members (i apologize in advance if ever "russian" is not appropriate, i do not intent to hurt anyone feelings politicaly speaking.)

About Russian translation I think to you it is necessary to address on a site warforge.ru The community of this site was engaged in translation of books on Warhammer 40000 and probably will not refuse to help you.

    As you have said before, the campaign has a large role-playing element to it, with what you say and the decisions you take. Is the campaign going to be some sort of hub type story where you can go to and from a central map. Or is it more linear then that?

    It is linear, BUT,

    Something you choose in mission 1, maybe as a fairly minor decision in the opening mission could have far reaching consequences in mission 9. Also, I'm currently working on a mission where your decisions taken during a cutscene (yes, the actions stops so you can answer a question posed to you)... the decision you make will fundamentally change the mission you are about to start. Most missions are in fact 2 or 3 missions intertangled in one, with all of your decisions affecting which branch you follow and your actions in one mission will affect the following missions - like they should. Causing a massive fight in a captial city is likely to affect the alert levels of guards you meet later on in the campaign..

    Each mission is linear, but what happens in each mission can be fundamentally altered by your decisions.

    Ah ok. So in the end, will it be similar to Chaos Rising as in you'll have multiple endings? Brilliant ending, Good ending, not-so-good ending, bad ending, horrificly tragic ending?

    Crikey with all this going into a campaign, I'm not sure which is harder, mapping, scar-ing, UI editing and who knows what else? You really have your work cut out.

    ...you can add : brillant alternate side missions, non linearprogression during a mission.
    in fact there is always an alternate path to achieve the main objective (at least one alternate path... ))

    I'm not sure which is harder, mapping, scar-ing, UI editing and who knows what else?
    in fact the most difficult is to inject the scenario into the gameplay via the dialogues and the mapping, and not going crazy because of the immense intricate web of the scenario plot !!
    technically speaking i think scar coding and ui editing are the more complicated.

    dude, just rolling up and sticking in a post about "when can I test it" is a bit... well....... rude. As you've recently joined though, we'll let it slide a bit.

    @ Godlike_Power ;The original story writer was Andkat, .. he of fluff knowledge extrodinaire and general all round top person to write a campaign. The private forums have literally pages of super-cool fluff writing and awesome story content. So much it's not actually possible to include everything. Enough for me to enjoy an hour or two reading it instead of coding...

    How's going, i'm very anzious to put my claws on it, is always active true? And plz, i'm at work so i can see so much of the site, only few pages, there will be units like incarcerator, penitent engine and so on? I'm waiting them since the Witch Hunters Mod release...

    @Alexandrus : from what i read of your previous posts, you are very anxious to put your hand on "incarcerator, penitent engine and so on" models, and do not have a lot of interest in the Darkness Within mod, don't you?

    @Godlike : as Argonaut said the fluff was written by Andkat and provide such an deep and extended background that a lot of Dark Heresy gamemasters would kill their own mother to have an opportunity to read it, we are talking about, not dozens of pages, but hundreds !! if you know Andkat post in the backstory and fluff section of this forums just imagine what the man produced when he was free to express his talent !
    see below for a short example of the campaign background story :

    As an example Andkat described events and period unfolding during several hundreds years before the event detailed in the campaign,
    this amazing fluff is the core of Darkness Within, on this backbone Incarnate, Fluffball and myself wrote the scenario of the campaign, designed the characters and the interaction between them, we were always working close with Andkat to stay as close as possible to the w40k fluff.
    today Argonaut and myslef are directing the events and the scenario and mission tree, Argo joined the crusade and was hooked to it (to say the least ) that's our status to day, we are coding and writing the scenario and adapting it to the gameplay on the fly.
    What we need is a good dialogue writer that would be able to read the fluff (dozens of scattered posts...remember...hours and hours of reading) understand the story, get imbued and transported by the darkness within and still be able to write gameplay compatible sentences and cutscenes dialogues that could bring the story to the player. we have had a few proposition and some of them are interesting, but we 'dl ike to hear more before taking such an important decision.
    i'll post a thread in the backstory and fluff section about something special related to this.



    to answer everyone curious or enquiring about the health of the Darkness Within mod : we are strong, patient and motivated !! we have side collaboration ongoing with some of the best community members and we are sure you are going pleased by the result.

    Here is some of the reason we don't move as swiftly as we could. Each mission is an organic design at the moment, we work through something, come up with a better way of exposing the story and characters and rework it. JL has probably remapped mission one 4 or 5 times and I've written up to 1000 lines of code .... now made obsolete by flourishing reactive design. It makes for super cool missions that I'm very proud of, but not exactly the fastest way of doing things. By getting a very good and articaulate script writer we'd have lots of the developmental stuff worked through prior to even starting the coding. This would make missions coding and mapping much more efficient... possibly.

    Yes I have dimily heard of Andkat and his stories before. Yet I thought them only myth . I have only recently begun looking in other forum sections (There's just so much modding content for DOW not to mention RL tasks to do) so I'll take a look later on.


    Will we need to know ALL of the backstory to understand what is going on in the campaign? I mean the size of Andkat's work even in small excerpts are (despite being fascinating) a little intimidating.

    EDIT: Just noticed the backstory on Page 4 of this thread. Will that play any part in the campaign or is that now obsolete?

    @Godlike : i think it is needed to know most of the background material but the more important is reliability, we don't wait on people to get through things because the only way out of this project is moving forward.
    fortunatly the mod leader has a global and deep understanding of the scenario plot and prequels back stories and fluff, so if you can't read everything you have to accept his words as an Order.
    yes Andkat work is intimitadting but the content is so good that it is worth the pain.

    the story on page four is only the background fluff, it described events long passed, but it dictates the shape of the present event of the campaign, if we need a npc related to this event we got all the material necessary to shape him (motivations, personal history, how and why he acts or think today). the back ground fluff is set for once and not to be modified unless we really need it to (rarely). the extract on page 4 is not obsolete at all.

    @at neophus : i have asked for references and asked also for what you can do for the campaign but didn't get any answers. it is not only a matter of "i want to help " it is more a matter of "here's what i can do to help".
    i have said more than one time what we needed : modellers, animators, ae and oe coders, script writers.

    @Argonaut : on the contrary i think this is why we have been able to do what we have done so far, if you take a look back at our work pace, we were making fast progress until we add a third party in the decision process.
    but i understand your concern about scripts and how much you need it.

    Of course of course. I was merely pointing out that while story is essential, one can get hampered by too much info coming thick and fast. And I must say you were dead lucky getting Andkat to write out the setting. From what I've seen he really seems to get 40K and the Inquisition.

    So it's simply a matter of piecing together the various strands of backstory.

    I've just finished coding a cutscene 8 mins 19 seconds long, so don't underestimate just how well we're going to protray the story. The cutscene includes custom animations, thunderhawk flybys and extended animations for .<REMOVED BY THE INQUSITION> and <REMOVED BY THE INQUISTION>. I can't wait to code the mission where <REMOVED BY THE INQUISITION> arrives and the massive battle on <REMOVED BY THE INQUISITION.>

    We really do need a skilled animator to complete a very custom work about by adding some nis animation only to certain units and eventually undertake a special project which is more on the kit-bashing part than anything else.
    i can't really speak about this, so if ever someone is interested please send me a pm.

    i'n not used to beg for help but it would be a pity if we were to abandon these anims. we really do need this.

    With regards to cruisers and ships in general, will we see breif glimpses of the outside parts of the ship or is it all interior cutscenes? Just asking as I remember a few months back when a screenshot of Uther's ship exterior was posted, though the image itself seems to have disappeared.

    cruiser outside view is still here on post 289 some pages back, but some picks have been removed because i was not too fond of plagiarism at the time.
    don't be afraid there will be some pics and cutscenes showing the exterior of the ship.
    If ever we can do what i got in mind about ships players will be .....surprised...and delighted, but this requires some cooperation with others mods.

    Those among the community who have been following the discussions in other mods forums/thread (we are a big familly ) about spaceship and DoW know my point of view and ideas on the matter, i don't want to expand on the ideas more than what i have already but these screenshot from the ME are a brief view of a tiny bit of what i want to achieve. i don't know yet exactly how this is going to fit in Darkness Within but it will fit, you got my word:

    This project becomes more ambitious by the day. And from those Screenshots, am I right in assuming that the map shown was used in the Darkness within trailer? I remember an orbital strike hitting an objective towards the end of the trailer.
