Absolutely Jaguar-Lord. Tall stuff will be reserved for cutscenes, besides I wouldnt try to make anything you guys wouldn't find feasible. Something I do want to try and see if we can manage - destructible buildings - or parts of them. That would be interesting.

Baby steps 1st tho. I aim on getting something in game by the next 2 weeks - this week I am super booked.

Hey guys. I was looking at that screening of the prison/interior scene. Decided to quickly pump out some pieces of geometry to use in maps. There are 3 peices in this scene some repeated obviously. They are to be used for interior sets, like aboard the battlebarge or something similar. All umv unwrapped meshes/going to clean up the textures better and add extra mechanical junk. I figured simple base shapes for walls can allow for cleaner pathfinding for the maps. Also the walls are very squat and inclined for better view overlook.

I spent a whole bunch of time extracting some textures, making my own and then mapping them. Here is an update, still super lowpoly geometry texture files are 512x512. Now I am going to make some mechanical junk to give it some more flavor.

these are just some temporary textures, I made them in photoshop and I could easily create several colored themes, like the steel blue for spaceships and some sort of green metalic for bases and what not.

Looks great. A new campaign is what half the community has been waiting for ever since vanilla DoW. Best of luck, I'm already looking forward to this.

Yes it is !! It was one of our primary concern that both the IDH mod and the WH_AS mod would be upgraded to full SoulStorm compatibility by their respective moddign teams.

Now that 50% if this is done, thanks to Compiler, our optimism increased by a good 50%, meaning that we are 150% sure that his mod will be compatible for SoulStorm.

    JL

We are curently in the process of creating our trailer and cutscenes (mappin wise) so if any of you are interested in joining the (non existent) Voice team you'r welcome.
The previous draft turned out to be lot of enthousisasm but nothing more. See post #79 p.6 and subsequents if you are interested in dialog acting...

Mapping is progressing with new object, new fx and new units
(no, no screenshot yet and no spoiler of anything) We may be able to provide a complete new experience about map immersion and experience and to add a certain level of interectivity with the terrain in itself. Destructable structures, moving terrain and pickable items on the map.
    (dow2 before it....)

    See you....Within !

    Hey JL,

glad to see you're making lots of progress with this campaign. I have actually recorded a few samples of dialogue from the script you posted back there, but I didn't consider them even close to good enough for submission and review. I'm wondering, how much of that script do we need to voice? Do you only need a line or two from one role or the other? I had a go at the first few lines for Arteius because I sound slightly younger, but I'm not happy with them. I have a few days off coming up soon, so I'll have another try and see if I can't produce the goods. Failing this, I can always knock out a few textures if you need some help, there...

Are you going to do any post-production with these vocals?

    Keep up the good work!

    Hi Gallonigher,

Glad to hear some news from the sample, please record as much of the script as you can and send it over via pm. Let other judge if it is good or not. If you have a friend willing to join this project please record him also.

    As for the texture job: hmmm this is not a bad idea at all;
i'll send you a pm about some retexture project we have concerning some guardmen and their leader(s).

Thanks again for the interest you put into this project.

    Sincerely

    JL

We are making this campaign for the Adepta Sororitas mod and for the Inquisition DaemonHunt mod, i'm afraid we do not have the intention to include the non existent Ordo Xenos.
(see Croaxleigh answer in the Depth orf Heresy mod thread about the "remant" of the OX)

The mod Darkness Within is under construction, and progress are slow due to RL events. We are unable to confirm any release delay even for a beta.
As you know delays are related to how many members are in a team and to what workload they can endure. And our team is...reduced.
I sincerely hope that the next monthes will see dramatic progress. really.

how is the mod being constructed? is it by mission or are u doing like everything in whatever random order u feel like? can we at least have a rough percentage of completion of this awesome looking mod?

    hi there,

How is it being constructed you mean?
Well, this is not an easy question.....

This project started last year when discussion brewed around was it possible to had cutscenes to multipayer maps without breaking online play. We began with discussing fluff, scenario and maps in a messy but very productive and creative manner, passion was thrown in and little by little we decided to create a separate team from the IDH mod. We then considered the two inquisition factions and decided to build the story around Compiler IDH mod and KRMZ AS mod.

We managed to write all the fluff (thanks to Andkat who produced some enthralling story, character and background dev) in a few monthes. Writing the campaign backbone and mission synopsis were another storry. We finally achieved it. At the same time as we were progressing in the scenario redaction we starded mapping the first missions.
and that means doing a very different mapping work than skirmish missions. Ambiance and scenario guidelines are very important.
Incarnate did a titanesque job and managed to edit the files necessary to create a working campaign graphical interface. Tweak code here and there, resizing windows and so on, while i was designing new graphics for the above mentioned interface, fron main menu to mission loading screen.

First we were lacking of modeller so we decided to take the safe way and not include any new models. We though that we could retexture and clone some alrady existing units to suit our needs. But it soon became evident that we wanted badly some new models to flesh the story and give it an original and unique flavor.
As you now, modellers are not crowding here and are a precious ressource for any mod, it was only after we made the official announcement that some people proposed themselves to help us in creating new models. The models are still in dev today; new scenery object and new units are either still concept art, already modelised in 3ds, some have been put ingame sucessfully...

But it became clear that the more we went deep in this project the more work we had to do.

There's a huge work about writing (dialogs, scenario, Nis storyboarding and cutscenes, help text, objectives........lot of stuff indeed !) that need to be completed. Another mountain to climb is the code for each mission and the code to made all this working together. And until writing is not completed we can't start voice work (another huge and very important part of the mod).
Plus the fact that we want to include some unique concept not present in DC nor SS (like artefact and equipment, or unique terrain behavior and ambiance, animated ground and sound trigered events...)

Well this huge task can sometimes feels like impossible to do for such a reduced team, and even if we are passion fuled ones (and stubborn) sometimes the fun turns to pressure and ....well, that's it.

So to answer you question as sincerely as i can :
I know that i can't fully grasp the whole picture of what's need to be done and what has been already done, Incarnate may have a better "awareness" of this and could answer your question more precisely. I would like to say :"we have never been so close".
Given that we do not want a "done-in-one-week" campaign two or three handfulls of monthes will be necessary.

    Jaguar-Lord

Ps : of course this delay could be dramatically decreased if ever a horde of talented and reliable peoples suddenly knock at our door and offered their skill. (modelers, texturers, mappers, cutscenes specialist with deamon-comps, voice actors....the Modding Legion "au grand complet"

    Holy Terra!

    This Mod looks freaking amasing!
I live the idea, mix of the Inquisition(For me: the Grey Knights) and the Sisters of Battle is a great idea(makes me think about the book "Grey Knights" by Ben Counter).
I love the look of the maps in the picks, and everything else.

Now what I believe people would like is an estimate of a release date, if thats possible.
Anyhoo, love the idea, and the pics. I really wish I was any good at, well, anything so that I could help.
Keep up th good work, and may the Emperor protect you.

Incarnate is back on modding even if he prefer to stay away from RN forums for the moment, we plan to code the campaing manager in the three incoming weeks. This mod is not dead.
three maps have been completed and need to be coded. still a lot of work to do but i assure you we are still working on it.

    Hi all,

Merry Xmas and Happy New Year!

I am still loving the skirmishes using ID. It's still my top choice. It's even fun when LAN-ning with others and playing it. It becomes and addiction afterawhile.

When you get a chance, could you please advise on the status of IDH linear campaign?

    Many thanks,

i would like to help but have no real skill in moding (done a bit of basic mapping and am trying/failing to learn to texture) however if you still need a hand with scripting (although i have gatherd you have done most of this?) then i would be happy to help.
    all in all well done

Hi guys, I'm working on a few other projects but would like to help bring this to completion if there are any contributions I can make. My main skills are in mapping, especially complex heightmaps, and I've done a few sky models, decals and such. I don't know if you have any need for that, but I let me know if there is anything I can do! Sounds like you have all worked really hard on it and it would be great to help things move forward.

the linear manager needs to be finished, that means C++ (or anything DoW compatible) coding of an .exe that will clear the skirmish menu from every maps but the campaign ones.

scenario synopsis is completly written with background stories and developpements, 100% fluff wise thanks to Andkat.
    characters are fixed,

dialog are not written, also means that sound are not done (voice, special Fx ambiance sound and music, a hell of a work in itself !!)

new model needs to be done (three main characters and a bucnh of scenery models)

3 maps/7 are completed but SCAR coding is not done......

this mean that for the moment this project is not going to be completed during year 2009.

making a complete campaign is a hell of a workload and without a complete skilled team (at least one skilled individual in each : modeler, texturer, fx designer, mapper, oe/ae coder, sound enginer, scar coder ) it is very difficult.

by complete i mean "DoW vanilla or WA " quality.

If people are willing to complete this project, well you can see above what/who is needed to do the job.

  48. #148

    Thanks for the update, JL

Wow, it does sound like there is a lot to do! There probably isn't a lot I can do, especially if the scripts are not written for the actual voice, but I know a good scripter with a far reaching background in Warhammer 40K lore, and will try to put him in touch with you.

Right now I'm going to be focusing a lot of my time helping keep things together since FileFront is going under. Lots of guys have pitched in to archive the set of mods, maps, B&Bs and so forth, and we have yet to see what is going to be done with it all.

    alright guys.
i decided a few days ago to code the first mission "Prison Break" of the darkness within campaign.
Not being a scar coding demi god myself this may take some time (let's say around a month....)

the map is done since a long time, nis and curtscenes are my main concern here because i particulary sucks at making them.
i'll report progress here from time to time.
