    Chaos My first 40K minis

    HEY,

this are my first 40K minis they are fairly average i know but i thought i might as well put them on the internet so that i can get so advice for the future. I have lots of minis glued and primed ready fro painting but my mum only lets me get my painting out on the odd weekend. i haven't tried anything fancy yet so there is no highlighting or anything like that. They are not finished so any ideas and i will try and add them if they don't sound to hard. I took lots of pics but my camera is really bad so the close ups are really blurry so sorry for the zoomed out pics but they do show most of the detail that i have done.

First off: If you're using a digital camera, use macro when taking pictures of models (run through the instruction manual real quick, it's easy to figure out)

They look really neat from what I can see. Highlights would be something fun to try, and it would make them look really good. Keep it up.

Those are way better than my first attempts at painting. Nice job on the smoothness of the coat and neatness.

The shooty marines look very neat and better than the CC boys, I think the CC boys' paint coat may be too thick? Might be just the camera though.

I second the use of the macro feature, if you're not sure where the function may be located, look for a button associated with picture of a tulip/flower.
Anyway, this is a real nice start! Very clean for firsts! You should start to experiment with highlighting to bring your marines to a new level

Oh yeah , I agree with Sansa...give those Nightlords some highlighting and some inkwashing and you will be amazed. I really love what you did with em.

just parroting what others have said.. highlights and washes... one of each and you'll have even better results!

And to further play the parrot, very good for a start, you've "stayed in the lines" very well!

I like just how basic they are. No offense, because basic, in my opinion, isn't a bad thing at all because it gives everything a sense of unity. I love looking at a bunch of color coordinated marines because you can still model them in a very different fashion yet they all share the color so it just looks....more "organized?"

    But really great job.

Check this GW link out Brow, it covers inking for shading and drybrushing for highlighting: Linky

This GW link shows how to paint an army in a similar fashion that you are painting yours, should be helpful, and the little pictures next to each paragraph can be clicked to zoom in so you can spot where they are highlighting too: Link Link!

This GW link covers 4 ways to paint black armor, and will specifically help you figure out how and where to shade. Look at the styles, try them, see what works best for you! This link will most likely be the most helpful to you. Here is the link: Black Armor to the MAXXXX!
