My crappy old Sniper mg building strat

I haven't done this for a long long time, not since before Opposing fronts. But when I was playing against my friend I used to put a sniper and an mg in a building. It was absolutely devastating for a while. If he tried sniping me he'd get one of the mg guys and then my sniper would shoot his. This worked really well until he figured out some way of targeting the sniper in the building first.

I asked him how he did it but he wouldn't divulge his secret. Was he just lucky or is there a trick to selecting which unit you snipe inside a building?

I have a friend who is just starting to play, so we'll be doing some team auto matches. He only has the old vanilla, and I thought this might be a good easy to manage little strategy that he won't have to babysit the whole time. But if you can select the sniper in the building it doesn't really help.

    Can it be done?

I don't know if it can be done with a building but snipers can be ordered to attack individuals in a squad, quite devastating when you start picking off Axis squad leaders with their stronger guns to help your boys out.

Also I don't think it would be a really good idea to put a sniper and a mg in the same building. I mean what is to keep him from going the other direction and capturing all of your territory?

Yeah it's pretty lame, and I wouldn't use it now, but when it was just me and my mate on a 1v1 it worked well on some maps where I wanted to hold onto a point and forget about it.( semois, is that the one with the church in the middle?) Chuck them up in a building with a good line of sight and they'll be a constant pain in the arse.

I'm not saying it's good, but I thought that it might be something good for my friend to do in team auto match. Until he really gets the hang of things. It'd be handy to cover an area and he won't have to constantly look after it.

Zoom in and find the side of the building the sniper is staying on. Then you tell your sniper to hit the building from that point and if the sniper is the only one on that side then he will be picked off first.

If there is others on the side then I think its the closest one to him.

A question about the 'Axis Squad leaders' thing. - Is that right?

What I tend to see happening with my snipers/recon guys is that I snipe the dude with the heavy weapon (IE flamethrower) and it just poofs to the other guy.

The squad leader usually has weaker guns than the rest.

You might be able to right click the icon above the building so that the sniper fires at the sniper first.

In any case, a fast greyhound would end your schenanigans quite fast.
    Greyhounds are my favorite, still!

Fast panzer4! Coming soon, to a motorpool near you!

its a good way of getting away from recon squad. hide ur sniper in a building with other squads in it, recon snipe may be nullified. maybe that would work, i havent tried it, just got this idea.

It's possible to snipe the sniper first if you can figure out what window he is in. Involves zooming way the hell in, seeing where the MG troops are, where he is...

I've never had the time in a game to do it. Much easier to send in a bait squad, absorb the shot, then snipe.

The whole windows thing is also why your sniper will drive you insane sometimes walking about instead of shooting into a building... it's because he can see the BUILDING but doesn't have line of sight on the troops in it. Good example, Semois church. You have an MG and engie in that building facing south, firing on your exposed troops coming from your base. You have a sniper you snuck behind the church and you tell it to fire... but the fucker just keeps walking around the side of the church towards you never firing... he's trying to get into a position where he can sight the enemy troops in the windows.
But we love CoH, it's by far the best RTS game I've ever played. Every rose has its thorns, except CoH's thorns are more like laser guided serrated switch blades. - Painmuffin

A mortar is the safe way, but if you want to get rid of them quickly, a simple Volks squad with assault is my preferred way to do it. I'll lose 1-3 men, but at the cost of 50 munitions every squad in the house will be dead.

Actually this strat has its moments still. On a map like St. Hillaire 2v2 it can be devistating to the axis early game imo.
