    What's Next For Us

    Hi Friends,

Do any of you recall when Opposing Fronts was announced? The reason I'm curious is that this may give us some insight as to when we *might* hear information regarding another expansion and/or sequel.

Generally speaking, publishers tend to schedule releases so that they coincide nicely with their most important fiscal quarters, which I believe was the case with OF. SO, if we can recall when the fist info was released about OF, and when it actually hit store shelves, we might have a better chance at speculating as to when we'll hear about "what's next".

Like many people here, I'm hoping for something to do with the Eastern Front. Snow maps would be pretty cool, if you ask me.

I seem to remember OF being announced in the Spring/Summer, but I could be wrong. What do you guys think? Perhaps I'm on to something?

    1) Last I heard Relic was going to make an announcement (do an article in some major gaming magazine) in late summer here regarding some new game.

    2) Relic has already announced a "5 year plan" for the COH "series". It's year two here for COH and we have TWO games. You do the math.

I'd like it if that announcement this summer was another COH expansion. I'd like it even more if it was an announcement for COH:Eastern Front.

I hope they don't release an entirely new game. Automatch would be split right down the center, some playing the old, more playing the new.
    Greyhounds are my favorite, still!

Fast panzer4! Coming soon, to a motorpool near you!

Japanese please, with Allies East Forces.

How about Russians? T34s? Nagants? PTRDs? (or PTRS would be better).

    So many possibilities.

CoH:OF was announced on the 5th of April 2007 and went gold around the 12th of September.

So I guess there will be an announcement in a month or two if a game's going to be released in October/November.

    That would be absolutely horrible.

This engine is made for WWII and all of the parts that made the whole of that war.

Five installments of WWII RTS would be quite immersive if all players could play against all players and not with a divided community.

I actually thought about this awhile ago.

Company of Heroes was announced on April 25, 2005 and released on September 14, 2006

Opposing Fronts was announced on April 5, 2007 and released on September 24, 2007

See the pattern? We're still in April, although Relic did announce Dawn of War II on April 3, 2008 so that could be the announcement for the year. This is all speculation though, so if we're lucky we'll get another announcement this month with a release in September.

Company of Heroes: Vietnam would be...interesting to say the least. As for Company of Heroes: Iraq...let's wait until the war is over.

The next expansion will almost assuredly be a Eastern Front scheme with USSR and...in all honesty, I don't know. Japanese do not seem viable because they have nothing to do with the Eastern Front, and did not have variety. But, a U.S. Marines + Japanese Empire expansion would be awesome. Company of Heroes: Pacific front.

As for Italy...not much different the german armies of the time. Same goes for Austria.

    Just 100x times crapper.

I'm hoping for Soviet Front (Ostfront, lol) with some snow maps, PPShs and Degtyarev DPs and so on.

I fear that DoW2 is the big announcement. It uses the CoH engine (modified) and is taking some of the ideas from CoH to improve the DoH series.

I hope they have another anouncment this year for a new expansion of CoH. Cause I would really like to see a Eastern Front expansion hopefuly this year.
If they do more I would like to see Afrika Korps expansion and Pacific Front expansions.

    SBROFL!

Italy army=Total crap said by an Italian.

i think that the next step in the saga will be the soviet front and than eastern front with japs and americans....

But now we need soviet fronts, big armored battles and so on....stalingrad...kursk..better than normandy.

African front will be great i think but after soviet and eastern...but for the eastern front it will be complicated because it was naval for 80%

Stalingrad, Kursk, Soviets = Eastern Front (Ostfront)

The battles between Japan and US Marines = Pacific Theatre

I'd rather have the Italians and/or French than Vietnam and Iraq.

Anyhoot, why do people always cringe with the thought of the Italians, is it ignorance, stereotype or a one-sided historical evidence? An hour or two of research can come up with a good number Italian unit list. Yeah sure Italian armor is not as strong or cool as the Americans, Brits or Germans, but that's the beauty of variation. It all depends to the player on how to execute an attack. If we're all going to look for an Italian tank to counter a Stuart or a Sherman, don't you think that would be boring? A visit to WW2 forum site with discussions with real WW2 buffs (luckily a historian might be stumbled upon) might be enlightening on how they fought which might give an idea on how it can executed as their gameplay.

Hell, I'm wishing the Italians and French will be next just for fun.

Copy my image code if you want Japan in a CoH expansion!

BTW, fuck balancing. Give us the Japanese, Russians, Italians and French in CoH, pls awesome Relic team.

I read that we should be expecting a big announcement in the June issue of Games For Windows Magazine this year. Whether or not it's CoH related is to be seen but I'd be a little surprised if it wasn't. If a CoH expansion is announced in June than I'd expect a release date sometime in November or December. (OF was announced April and released in October = 6 months, if the announcement for an expansion is in June than 6 months from then would put us in December which would be just in time for Christmas)

Games For Windows magazine is gone, there won't be a June issue.

I seriously doubt we will see anything in the western theatre. Few skirmishes occurred in semi-open environments that CoH is based on. My money is on either Russia (don't know what the new axis army would be) or North Africa.

Whatever the case, so long is it doesn't involve clowns or dragons I'm buying it.

So, it sounds like we could see something pretty soon. Based on the announcement/release timelines we've seen in the past, I'd be willing to bet we'll hear some kind of announcement within the next month or so.

Thanks for all of the input! See you guys on the battlefield.

The July issue of GFW was originally scheduled to give us an in-depth look at CoH's five-year plan, which would have given us a look into the future of the franchise and any follow-up titles. However, the June issue (which would have shipped at the end of May/beginning of June) was canceled, as GFW shut down. I imagine we'll see the information on 1UP.com within the next two months.

And keep in mind that although OF was announced in April and launched in September, they originally planned it for November.

Yeah Pyros, but the Eastern Front expansion (Russians) shouldn't take as much time as OF. I can't imagine them adding a lot of new German units. OF and vCOH already has most of the German forces for the Eastern Front.

I've been thinking about this lately too. GFW going kaputt is really a shame seeing as how their July issue was meant to talk about the Five Year Plan (ie come out in June). However, that interesting information still exists, that being said there's no reason why this information isn't still going to be used by 1UP. I think it's quite reasonable to assume that the update on the Five Year Plan is an expansion announcement. Assuming that I think it's also quite reasonable to assume that someone (namely 1UP) would announce it in their place. Assuming there is something to be released we will hear about it from some magazine or website in a similar timeline, just not from GFW.
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Some of you guys might remember this cool thing known as the 'original topic'. It's really friendly, likes long walks on the beach, and people who have things in common with it. Totally worth acquainting yourselves with, since it's getting jealous with all this random babble about some GFW hussy and those oh-so-very-common-wishlist-thread pin-ups.

Only a couple of newbies made wishlist comments. The rest of us are talking about the five year plan.

As an aside, I know people don't like all these threads but I think most people use them for entertainment. I enjoy the "what if's" anyways. Don't know about the rest of you guys.

  26. #26
Ah, didn't realize that about GFW. Interesting news anyway, but yeah I guess we'll have to hope 1UP does something with what was going to printed.

To be fair Apok this announcement stuff is new to me that was going to be in GFW. I presume since GFW shutdown the exclusive will probably just go elsewhere?? Next bidder or whatever? Anyway surely we shall here something at E3 at the latest (middle July sometime?).

Also slightly worried the announcement could have been for DOW, we know there's a 5 year plan, but i really do hope they haven't planned to big of a gap between expansions. Although I've been informed by a friend that OF all being Relics design and love child etc.. the donkey work was actually contracted out? If that's right may well be possible Relics own Dev's are on DOW with coh contracted out and just carefully supervised by a few Dev's.

In the back of my mind.
I agree with relic, keep the wishlists out of at least one thread guys.

Well i agree all this announcment in the Games For Windows mag and all that is news to me too, i'm definately looking forward to news as much as pretty mucheveryone else here. I was quite disappointed to hear that Relics last big announcment was DoW2, so hopefully they'll come through for us this time.
