    The Dark Angels Mod - "Repent! For tomorrow you die!"

    The Dark Angels -- One of the most secretive Space Marine chapters in existence, dedicated to hunting down and eradicating their fallen brethren. Soon, they will arrive in the Kaurava system following rumors that there were Fallen hiding out among the forces gathered there.



    Featuring the full fury of the Ravenwing



    And the unbreakable might of the Deathwing



    With new models depicting the commanders and troops of the Dark Angels in their ceremonial robes



    As well as the signature vehicles of the Dark Angels: The Mortis Dreadnought and the Land Raider Ares.



    The flexible army painter options also allow for the many color variations of the Dark Angels successor chapters, including the Angels of Absolution, Guardians of the Covenant, The Consecrators, and others.

    I dont remeber reading about the Mortis pattern dreads or the LR Ares in the DA codex...
    very nice i like the models (but i think you have gone a little robe happy)
    so what is there left to do before release? look good so far since you seem to have the heros reskinned and the DA vets and the Ravenwing and the various bitz

    PS. add Ezekiel Grand Master of Librarians
    Acceptance- Seeing how hopefully shitty you are and moving on.

    Just do not go overboard with the Robes, they are not the only thing that I consider as making the Dark Angels awesome.

    Anyway good luck with hopefully releasing the mod

    Don't worry about the preponderance of robes. After all, it wouldn't have made much sense to showcase models that aren't unique to the Dark Angels.

    The Mortis Dreadnought is a unique vehicle of the Dark Angels, and can be found in Imperial Armour II. The Land Raider Ares is an Apocalypse vehicle, also designed by the Dark Angels.

    ah i dont invest in the IA books so i wouldnt know that. Im more canonical and stick with the codex...unless its im using my IG army and really need a vanquisher.

    hey you have the use for a concept artist....i work for the Vostroyan Firstborn team so i have some experience lol.

    anyways good luck hope to see DAs on the field soon.
    Are you gonna see if you can be added to the combiner mod?

    Oh and the Dark Angels unlearned here is a GOOD SOURCE of visuals to see what a DA chapter looks like.

    I guess I wonder if the faction will have a split tech tree: one with Deathwing and the other Ravenwing?

    Oh and I'll be working on the DA Advanced AI quite soon - fun chapter indeed!

    Plasma Cannons (or perhaps more specifically plasma weaponry), while not unique to the Dark Angels, are something by which you can also identify the Dark Angels with. So you better hope to have Plasma Cannons as a heavy weapon choice for tactical squads as well as Devastators, if included, otherwise your going to have one slightly miffed Dark Angel chasing you

    We have Plasma cannons, among other things...

    We could do with someone who knows how to texture though, whilst I can do basic texturing (the Landspeeder textures in the pics are ones I've done, based on the Relic ones) I am still learning many aspects of modding, one of them being how the textures work, so any help with that would be appreciated. I'm also a noob at using photoshop but I'm learning rapidly...

    It's something I've raised with the team, briefly (probably about a line or so in a big post in a thread we have in our private forum) but we'll have to discuss it further I think.

    A lot, or not a lot, depends on what kind of Dark Angels mod people want - if we wanted to release an SM clone with Dark Angels bits we could do it right now, probably...

    Currently it seems we've taken a couple of steps back imo due to graphical problems we're having, just minor things which we can solve though.

    And we are debating how to make them "unique" and "different" to the basic SM race, like most mods, and I'm sure Morat will agree with this, I'll say it'll be ready when it's ready.

    We still have a number of things to add to the mod in terms of units and we're ironing out kinks at the moment, but I can say this - it'll be out before DoW 2, hopefully

    I'd like to thank anyone here that helps me when I post a question - over the last 4 weeks or so the majority of my posts have been for things that we've been trying out in the mod, that and the fact I am still learning, although obviously I had to be a bit cryptic and keep it hush hush as to what I was actually working on...

    ...So thank you all for your help. I'll probably post for help again so thanks in advance as well

    We could greatly do with someone who knows how to use OE to put models into the game as well, so anyone who can help PM Morat asap. Thanks

    I'm not sure we can. Personally I'd like to have Azrael, Ezekiel and Asmodai, but I don't think we can get our hands on any models for them.
    If ANYONE on the team has Max, it's pretty easy to use Brother Santos's tools to do some simple modelling/texturing and turn Space Marine heroes into Dark Angels ones.

    Yeah we've done that, can't divulge what we have at the moment though...

    But I was thinking specific character models based on the TT ones, and I'm assuming that is also what Cadian Guard was hoping for.

    Anyway it's just an idea that's worth looking into, I've raised the point again over at our private forums but the chances are it won't happen, so the less said here the better.

    Besides we have other things for the mod...

    There have been other earlier attempts at developing a Dark Angels race mod actually, some of you may just not of been around since Dawn of War v1.00 (even if my RelicNews join date doesn't suggest such). There was the Unforgiven Mod as one attempt, I would the Havoc's mod as an attempt (just with his own artistic flair, perceptions, ideas and the sort), there have been a few other more underground mods for the Dark Angels as well. Several of you may not remember Brother Lucifaer but he tried developing a Dark Angels mod as well, although his terrible disease and several problems had\have caused him problems with doing anything.

    Ah I see. I guess I was wrong then. I've only been modding since my join date...

    Ours will be completed, hopefully before DoW 2, and possibly, although it might be pushing it a bit, around Christmas - I'm not saying it will be, but at the rate we're moving along I think it's not much more than 5-6 months away until we can release it, or at least release a public beta.

    Ultimately though Morat has control over that as he's the team leader.

    The book on the front.



    The sword he's carrying (known as the Raven Sword) has a temporary texture, we think it could use a better texture so we're in the process of doing one.

    Also the Heavy Bolter will be the Multi-Melta that the Master of the Ravenwing on a Land Speeder has in the codex once I've put the code in to change the weapon (at least I think that's what he has, I haven't checked lately and I've got a memory like a sieve ).

    Anyone know how I can put these pics in as thumbnails, they're a bit big (all I have is the [IMG] code)

    That is the actual Landspeeder. The pic you've posted is a Jetbike.

    Currently we have no plans for that as we're kinda a bit top heavy on characters at the moment. Although if our 3d modeller could do one from scratch it could be possible to use him in place of another character - I'll pass the pic on to him and see what he says.

    Of course if anyone knows of someone who just happens to have an imperial jetbike model lying around our 3d modeller (Greenphearo) could use to kitbash some Ravenwing bits onto that'd be even better...

    In other news - It may be possible for us to have Ezekiel as you asked, along with another couple of "special" characters. That's all I'm saying though. Don't want to ruin any surprises now do I

    The model is incorrect for the Master of the Ravenwing, has has a twin linked heavy bolter as well as a matter of fact, check page 19 of the 3rd edition Codex: Dark Angels if you must have proof.

    Hmm ok. I'll check the current codex as well, I thought he came with a Multi Melta.

    Although I did say the Heavy Bolter wasn't the correct weapon. Jeez it's only a screenshot of progress so far...

    No it's a fair point. I did say the HB wasn't the correct weapon though...

    I've asked Greenphearo if he can swap it out for a twin linked one.

    Another unit we're doing is a Landspeeder with a giant battle cannon...

    so there going with the land speeder instead of the jetbike (which is like every pic i see of the master of the ravenwing. a example would be on pages 44 of the DA codex)
    also according to the codex. Master of the Ravenwing cannot use the Iron Halo or the Ravensword on the Landspeeder (rules stated on page 45 under MAster of the Ravenwings Landspeeder.)

    also the landspeeder is equipped with a twin linked h. bolter and twin linked assault cannon

    the jetbike is equipped with a nose-mounted storm bolter and plasma cannon

    im using the current DA codex

    Correct, the Master of the Ravenwing in the latest codex is basically a Land Speeder with even more firepower essentially due to having twin linked weapons, yay for re-rolls on misses or whatever the benefits are again for twin linked weaponry.

    Nothings definite yet. Seeing as your moaning about this I'd like to point out that the only reason every pic you see of Sammael is him on his Jetbike is because GW are currently trying to sell that model, and I'd also like to say we have a Master of the Ravenwing on a bike in the pipeline as well - slight problem with the model at the moment though...

    We could well have a Jetbike version for him, it just depends how we can fit it into the mod, we have a path that we're following at the moment...

    All I can say without giving away too much info at the moment unfortunately.

    But please be patient, who knows we, we might ditch the Landspeeder version in favor of the Jetbike version if we can get a model done for it, or we may have both.

    Although not at the same time, perhaps we can have the MotR available on a bike at tier 2, on a landspeeder at tier 3 and then on uber jetbike at tier 4 with each one replacing the one from the previous tier...

    And we are fully aware of what each unit has, at least we are when we check the codices (which I was in the process of getting round to doing with regards to the MotR) as we all have them (at least I do, I've got Angels of Death, the one after that (the really thin one) and the current one) so we have all the info.

    Correct me if I'm wrong but you can choose between landspeeder or jetbike variant in the current codex and in the previous one you could choose between bike and landspeeder so us using the landspeeder is still a valid "true to codex" choice, isn't it?

    Having said all that any suggestions anyone has though that they would like to see in the mod will seriously be considered, who knows you may come up with something we haven't yet

    Kinda like that Commander looking unit on the bottom left.

    The one with a modified plasma gun.

    Looks pretty good for DA and would make them more different from standard SM since he look more like a ranged commander.

    Update on the MotR just for Imperial Honour, isn't he lucky

    Again ignore the sword texture, we're working on that, we might have to take a look at the guilding on the top of the MotRs helmet as well...

    Ravenwing - thanks for the pics, but we already have pics exactly the same. Thanks all the same though.

    If you want to help with the 3d modelling side of things PM Morat, he's our team leader and I'm sure Greenphearo wouldn't mind having someone to work alongside.

    Ok I wont post any more pics of Models. I get kinda excited about Dark Angels so I figured I would post some miniatures for the rest of the people watching the thread. Its always good to have something to look forward to.

    As far as 3d modeling I'm afraid my talents are very limited and would slow you guys down. Perhaps when my talents improve I may lend my hands with other things in the future. Until then I'll stick to 2d art, skins and Icons.

    Depending on what Icons you are using (I'm assuming they are the ones you got off Filefront) I might be able to make some better ones not to be released but for this mod. I think I'm getting pretty good at doing the Icon thing and would love to contribute.

    You do skins and icons and other 2d art? PM Morat, we definitely need someone for UI artwork and some texturing, I can texture a little bit, but mostly it's cut/paste and color replacment work, and even then I'm struggling if the color I'm replacing isn't Blood Ravens red to black...

    No the Ravenwing landspeeder skins were done by me, well the black was - the actual texture is the Relic made one, the Ravenwing badge was probably yours though, I just cut and pasted it onto the landspeeder texture, but that has since been changed to a different one (at least on my version of the alpha test).

    Haven't seen the deathwing landraider, although it looks from the pic in Morats 1st post that parts of the Ares are deathwing colored, but I've not seen that in my alpha versions...

    Very nice mod. Looking forward to it. Are you open for suggestions? If so:

    - Force Commander should be replaced with Azrael (quite obvious)
    - The standard Librarian should be replaced with Ezekiel (also obvious)
    - Any chance for Belial to appear?
    - I'd really love to see an Interrogator Chaplain in Terminator Armour (without a robe!)

Please welcome our 2D artist RavenwingRetribution, who will be providing us with UI elements and textures, and Mystecore, who will be composing some new music for the Dark Angels. I'm very excited to have them on board, and I'm sure the mod will benefit tremendously from their help.

    Standard Librarian will still be available. He's the "company" librarian whereas Ezekiel is a Grand Master of Librarians.

    Same goes for the Force Commander (although we're calling him a Grand Master at the moment) - Azrael = Supreme Grand Master so not necessarily a lower tier Grand Master...

    The good news is that we may well be having Azrael, Asmodai, and Ezekiel in the mod...

    Belial - jeez you don't want much do you

    We have plans for Deathwing Terminator versions of all the characters - can't say more than that as I'd be giving too much away, which I may have done already...

    Don't think we'll have Belial though as he's not really a special character - it's just the Master of the Deathwing that GW have given a name to, previously Belial was the name they used on the shoulder pad of the Dark Angels captain model (at some point, although that could just have been a model done by one of the Eavy Metal team for themselves that they showed pics of), the old one with the feather headress, so I suppose he's risen in the ranks...

    Welcome Mystecore - I'm hoping for some gothic/heavy metal type of music, imo it would fit well with the 40k/DoW/Dark Angels theme.

    BTW Morat - could you please make these announcements of new members of the team over at the private forum so we all know who's on the team, preferably before the general public get to know?
