    Well this DA team has some incredibly committed and skilled people taking part. I'm really glad the 3d part of things is moving at a good pace -- that tends to be the greatest speed bump towards progress yet the most important.

    Nah the reason we're moving so fast is because there is one person on the team who has too much time on his hands, that and he uses Corsix mod studio so he doesn't have to wait all day for the code to load up before he can edit it.

    Well you see there's is a problem fluffwise - if we allow you to build Belial you can only build him once per battle, if he's killed off you can't really build him again, death is death...

    But if we give you the Master of the Deathwing you can build as many as you like because it's not one person, besides it's only a name...

    I also need to thank Fuggles for an idea that he gave me for one of the units we have in the mod. Thanks Fuggles, you'll be on the list of credits.

    Just remember that by forum regulations that all signatures must be under 30,000 bytes (aka 30 KB), in which case you may wish to change yours before you get a warning as well as it is over the 30 kilabyte limit at the moment even with just the "Annihilation" userbar .

    NO. The mod is dead. We've had a big argument over how the mod should be made, and we've all decided to jack it in.

    Of course this mod is still alive. We can't keep making updates though, if we do we'll give away a lot of things we want to keep secret...

    1. We're aiming for SS but if there is enough interest for a DC version we may do one.

    2. Yes. At least I think so. To be honest I have no idea what the Combiner Mod actually does in terms of code but we'll take a look at being compatible with it - we are aiming for as much compatibility with other mods as possible.

    The Combiner mod is a pretty simple but useful mod that allows you to play all Race mods at once, basically.

    Ok well I've had a look at the thread and first off I can see the above quote being a problem because at some point we will need to amend the taskbar.lua in order to incorporate a third resource (we're currently using Ork population for some units and we'll need to change all the Ork icons to something more Dark Angels)

    But I'm dl'ing the combiner mod now so I can see how it works just to see what problems we might have in being compatible with it.

    Given that the combiner mod is for DC though I don't see as we'll be paying all that much attention to compatibility with it, this is for SS primarily and if enough people show interest we'll "downgrade" the mod to DC after it's complete and worry about compatibility then...

    Well when the mod is finished and people have dl'd it or want to, just say if you want a DC version and we'll see about downgrading it.

    Chances are that by that time most people will have SS and most major full race mods will have been ported to SS so we don't envisage a great demand for a DC version. Having said that the mod may just work as is in DC, dunno though haven't tried it but SS doesn't really add a lot code-wise that we can't take out in a day or two...

    Heh. We've got an internal discussion to sort out before we release a beta. We have a number of alpha versions and we can't work out which one to base the rest of the mod on. (Probably shoulnd't be telling you that though).

    Please be patient, it will be weeks, or possibly even months before we're at the stage of releasing a public beta (I felt we were close but looking at it we're not, I just got all excited at the fact Thud has done us some AI.)

    No I have been working on something different but close. All I will say at this time is that I have had help from The Watchers in the Dark. They tell me you need to limit your public information or you will be whisked away to the bowels of the Rock to have your mind wiped and be turned into a servitor so that you can do the mod teams laundry.

    Well I'm gonna be a fluff nazi and say no chance. Watchers don't go roaming around the battlefield, they're found "in the background" in the depths of The Rock, besides what would they do, chew your ankles (referring to the little dude that carries the Lion Helm being a "Watcher in the Dark").

    We have toyed with the idea of using the Watchers in the Dark as something other than just the Lion Helm bearer but we can't come up with anything that is plausible fluff-wise...

    That is one thing I don't recall Morat mentioning, we're trying to keep the mod as fluff correct as we can (although I guess we can take some artistic licence, GW do every time they want to sell something new so I'm sure we could...) whilst also maintaining a reasonable interpretation of the codices - Angels of Death, the cheapo thin one which you needed Codex SM to use it, and the current one.

    We're having Jawas instead, they'll come along and steal your vehicles and sell them back to you

    I have released a small number of space marine icon packs for the FoK mod (not for the team but as a third party) and have since made many icons for random things in not only the DoW games but for others as well.

    The icons in my sig are some of the latest in what I hope is a long line of new icon sets I am creating for soulstorm. However having said that Soulstorm does have decent icons already and I follow the ideology that "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".

    I am currently working on a chaos icon pack for Soulstorm in the hopes that I can replace the piece of ones Relic used since the first release of DoW. Here is a sample.


    All the other races seem to have fairly decent icons that honestly do not need to be replaced other then custom ones for Tau septs, Chaos legions or IG regiments.

    Anyway... While I am focused on this Dark Angels mod I am giving it my full attention when I have free time. And I will say that this mods Icons will be exclusive and you will not see them released otherwise. I will maintain that any future use of the icons that will be released for this mod will not be permitted by me to be used in any other mod or for any other reason outside of this mod.

    Now having said that... If someone contacts me and wishes to employ my services to create a set of icons for their mod then I will be more then happy to help in the creation of icons for them. Not that anyone with a skilled hand at photoshop or Gimp couldn't do what I do. All you need is a good set of reference material and alot of free time!

    As a mater of fact, I have a friend who wants me to make a set of icons for him using his own space marine chapter he painted himself. They look pretty good and should make for an awesome set of custom icons.

    Do not take it badly but I think your icons are too complex (ie the inside render is too complex and difficult to read and identify the unit. Do not used TT models to make icons but use dow 3d models, add an effect for the render to stand out from the background colour such as dim shadow or a glow.

    I like how diverse the TT models look and I can alter their colors or find them with a slew of different trinkets.

    I used the DoW 3d models on my space marine packs I released to the mod community on another site. I wanted something different and unique for this mod. The DoW 3d models are a bit to vanilla and don't offer a difference in flavor. (I.E. space marines are space marines are space marines)


    With TT models I can get all the little dark angel insignias, talismans and penance along with the dark angels flavor you can only get from miniatures.


    As far as my Chaos Icons I posted above. I made those before I started work on this mod and wanted a very complex feel for chaos as chaos is exactly that.

    Anyways... Once I get my 3d rendering programs working in linux I may start using the 3d models again for icon work. 3d studio max is a coding nightmare to run in linux and I have yet to get blender to even load. So my creativity will have to take a back seat until I can gain access to higher quality programs to accomplish my work.

    As far as your comments, none taken. I'm not the best nor am I even close to being good at this type of thing. However I do enjoy myself deeply for being able to do this for a respectable mod team and hope my work will be acceptable to the rest of the mod community.

    Oh dear we've dropped off the front page, time for an update methinks...




    So an update - we have 99% of the AE code finished, it just needs a few amendments here and there and some playtesting to iron out the kinks and some work on balance.

    We are working on graphical issues mainly now and Greenphearo is doing some great models for us as well as tweaking the ones we already have.

    Ravenwing Retribution has done some great icons for us, some of which he has shown in this thread, and he's also working on our taskbar and other UI parts.

    Thud has almost finished the AI as well.

    I'm on vacation from September 1st, the rest of the team have left and the mod is now officially dead...




    Hahahahahaha, got ya.

    The mod is still alive (although you wouldn't know it from looking at the private forum - it's like a ghost town in there :shudders: ), Greenphearo and Ravenwing Retribution are getting the 3D model and 2D UI work done now, not a lot more I can say as the AE coding is practically done and we don't have a lot going on at the moment.

    But we could do with a couple of experienced playtesters to test the mod as it is and help us with balancing issues before we go too much further down the line.

    So please PM Morat if your interested in giving us a hand.
