    Yep done that.

Anyone know the whereabouts of Morat and Ravenwing Retribution (RW Retribution)? I haven't seen Morat around here since the 22nd of October and around the same time at our forum...
Dark Angel Within, Dark Angel Without, Dark Angel Forever.
Get your Soulstorm Skirmish/Multiplayer Wargear mod here or check out the thread here

Now on Facebook as Raven Morpheus, there's only one...

We potentially have a "new" building, if we can get the model sorted (well actually we have a new building anyway, model or no model, we were borrowing a model from another vanilla faction until I had a brainwave)...

And no I'm not going to tell you what it's for, and yes I do realise the pic is of a stock Relic map statue, ignore the stronghold, that's not the building...

    Sneak peak pic -

Oh, I see RW is lurking.

We could always do with more and in the absence of Morat at this time (still dunno where he's gone) I guess the task of recruitment falls to me...

PM me over at revora, we'll talk over there.

not to sound rude but Ive been rather busy the last odd 9-10 months so its been a long time since ive been on here, but what I can remember from last time being on here is giving out my 3d bikes + textures to the community for fair use.

so I noticed without a shadow of a doubt your using "parts" of my bike since im guessing the modelers couldnt really rip apart my old model due to the way I packed and textured it. So your using versions of mudflaps stuff with mine to make a hybrid bike (the wheels etc) But I can tell my model from a mile away infact I believe a part of the model I still have my name hidden written into it on the texture itself

So not to sound rude but can you guys give credit where its due, I Gave out the model to the community for use, but please dont take something from mine rip it apart and not atleast give credit for it ^_^

Ah sorry Seforin, we haven't released anything to the community at large yet, just a Beta to a few people on our team of testers, well apart from the pics here anyway.

I don't know exactly what Greenphearo did but yes we have taken parts of your models and combined them with Mudflaps bikes. I did suspect that was the case when I first saw them.

As far as I understand it the original models weren't compatible with the DoW format or something?

Didn't mean to not credit you, we just overlooked it as we haven't released anything to the public yet.

We fully intend to give full credit to all people who have given us assets to use and help/advice along the way, and there are many people as yet who remain uncredited, I didn't think that not crediting people when we haven't really released anything would be a problem.

We never set out to rip your models to shreds, and we never intended to pass them off as our own, we know who has given us 3d assets and we fully intend to compile a list of credits when the time comes to release the mod to the public.

Please accept my apologies, on behalf of the team and myself (Morat seems to have gone awol so I seem to be leading the team now...).

Also I can't edit the first post in this thread to add you to the list there because Morat created it...

If your still interested in getting your bikes used as they were intended though we would be more than happy to do so, they are fantastic, but you need to talk with one of the 3d modeling gurus around here to find out what the problem with getting your bikes into DoW is so we can get them into the game (along with the various riders Greenphearo has done for us) properly.

Perhaps it may also be worth joining us over at the private forums?

Join up at http://forums.revora.net/index.php?act=idx and PM me there and I'll get Thudmeizer to elevate you so you can see our private forum and I'll PM you with the password so you can take a look around.

Ok people we're in the process of preparing a public beta. We've reached the point where it's time to show something for all the posts we've made.

It might take a couple of weeks to do but it's coming very soon.

We have a public forum setup as well so if anyone wants to come over and have a look please feel free to do so, it's a bit empty at the moment but when the public beta is released that's where it'll be released.

@Fuggles - if you can come up with a credible use for Watchers then we'll see about putting them in, currently, and I hate to disappoint you, we have only 1 and he won't be available in the public beta as the model is only a WIP at the moment.

The public beta will be using a few stand-in models and some units won't be available due to their models being WIP.

The code is 99.9% complete and solid, but the models are WIP at the moment and will remain so until we can find a full time 3d modeller, or until Greenphearo can come back and finish the great work he started.

Maybe the watchers could work like skull probes.
    An infiltration only unit...

I don't really care what they do... just want to see one in game...

  17. #167
Perhaps as a Research for a Character/Azrael, the additional health they get/damage reduction then applies to the squad. Seeing as it's then Wargear/Research it wouldn't have an effect on joining squads... I hope.

Ok guys I'm gonna hit this on the head now. We have discussed this earlier in this thread iirc and the team has also discussed it and we came to the conclusion that it's not really fluffy to have The Watchers in the Dark roaming the battlefield.

As I said there is one in the mod, you'll be able to work out what he may be when you see the public beta, although you won't be able to use the unit he's attached to as the model is a WIP so the icon will be greyed out, it'll be there so you can see what will be in the full version, you just won't be able to build it.

maybe the single watcher can be used as a less uber reconnaissance unit. make it a infiltrated unit with low hitpoints and small sight range and give it a special ability to temporarily reveal a large area around it. something like the IG field command

  20. #170
lol - yeah I was thinking as a cloaked recon unit, or maybe as an animated version of the chaos lords bonepile thingummy, whose names escapes me horribly, but is stealthed and gives LOS and uncloaks things.

However, I have arrived too late and Ravenmorpheus has I believe killed the idea, ho-hum! Still looking forward to the beta

Don't worry there is one Watcher in the mod, it is also very useful. Just not what you guys are thinking it should be.

We may include some of the WIP models, although there are a couple that are too WIP to be included, if they are working ok and iirc the model that the Watcher we have is with works ok so he may make the public beta.

Well when I pull my finger out and actually get the models that need some hex editing to solve color bleed issues sorted I might be able to pass them to Chaplain261 who has kindly offered to help, either that or hex edit them myself.

We're preparing a public beta, well I say we, there are only myself, Thud, and RW Retribution left on the team as active members, we have no 3d modeler (although HorusHeretic was doing us a force commander a while back but I've not heard from him about the progress of it) and we really do need someone who can work on their own, dedicate his (or her) time to the mod and do some things to models that need doing from only downloading the latest internal beta (we have no max files whatsoever as they were with Greenphearo).

We can get the public beta out if I can find the willpower to get started on the bits we need to do in order to polish it for public consumption but after that I'm afraid the mod will be dead, or as near as...

...which isn't how I want to see it (and I doubt Morat would either, where ever in the world he is) as we are so close to having a finished product, if we could get a dedicated 3d modeller (or if Greenphearo can come back on board) and someone to help with OE stuff (like linking FXs in and helping solve some animation issues a few of the models have) and making a few new FXs we'd be sorted...

Problem is I don't think we can get those people and I'm losing the will to live where carrying on with the mod is concerned, I sadly have no "fire" left, which is more to do with my current employment and lifestyle due to said employment than it is with actually not wanting to carry on with the mod.

I'm gonna book some time off and see if I can't rekindle my spirit...

There are two 3d modellers on the team now, one I brought on over a month back and a new one just about to correspond your way. Morat and Greeny are still AWOL since last summer.

@Thud - yeah but Aydin hasn't been heard from since I asked him to dl the internal beta and have a look at what he could do, iirc he hasn't even dl'd the internal beta or been into the private forum over at Revora, and we really need someone who can just dl the internal beta and see what needs doing without prompting, in the way Greenphearo was doing when he started making the models at the rate that he was...

Greenphearo has had some life issues, dunno what though but from the last PM I had here from him he sounded as though his world had been turned upside down so I don't think he'll be returning to the community, let alone the DA mod team, any time soon.

I did spot Morat on here the other day though, and I dropped him an email asking him to come back and take the reins again and get us organized but he seems to be ignoring us...

Oh the joy of working with people.

@Angel K - Last PM I got from your good self was about some concept art. Seeing as we don't have a modeller at the moment who is an active part of the team I haven't replied or give the artwork to the guys to use, but I'll post it over at the private forum we have and see what everyone makes of it. We'll put a credit in for the Immortal Enemies webcomic as well, even if we don't use the artwork as reference it can't hurt.

K.. guess I'll see where Aydin is.. you do, however, have someone new joining so look out for him. Real shame about Greeny and Morat -- DA had such a huge amount of progress done in those many months and the current build looks quite damn polished.

    Have to agree with Hopit.
Going by DA fluff, the white clothes symbolize that they've been through the deathwing or have hunted the Fallen. Normal line marines don't wear them.

Here is a good DA list so yeah standard DA marines have no robes but Vets do. Still.. something for the DA team to mull over but I think its pretty much settled as is. DA faction mod has no standard marine variants -- they are all vets.

If you look at GWs current Dark Angel range and the "fluff" the robes are used quite frequently whether the marines are vets or not.

GW can make it up as they go along so there is absolutely no reason why the Dark Angels marines in this mod should not be wearing robes.

Besides not all of the models wear them, they're randomized so you get a fair mix.

  33. #183
Just personal taste then. Mod looks great overall though.

  34. #184
Robes are awarded for valourous acts or heroism or somesuch, just as purity seals and other decorations across other chapters, in the latest codex anyway, their significance changes from time to time.

Um, not sure how to put this, but I'm not going to be a part of the Dark Angels mod team for the foreseeable future.

I've posted my reasons why over in the private forum that we have at revora ao that the team know but I basically feel that I can't carry on with a mod that really isn't going anywhere due to lack of personnel and I'm generally not playing DoW 1 or modding it at all.

I can't even get my head around prepping a public beta of the mod, mainly because there is so much that needs to be done on the 3d side of things to make it viable for public consumption imo.

It is sad that I have to make this announcement as I have always been the guy who has said we'd get the mod completed and released no matter what, but I don't really have the passion to carry on with the mod and I can't lead the team as effectively as I would like, Morat was the team leader and he left and the task fell to me and since we lost our modeller (Greenphearo) we've basically been a sinking ship, possibly the reason Morat left, I dunno...

I've tried to struggle on and do things with the mod but without personnel who can help out with the 3d side of things in a dedicated, quick and almost 24/7 fashion that Greenphearo was able to the mod hasn't really moved anywhere.

I don't know what Thud and RW Retribution wish to do with the mod, I suggested offering it up to the community as it is and seeing if anyone wants to start a new team to take on the task of completing the mod, but I'm sure Thud or RW will keep you all posted on what the decision is.

I'll still be around here occasionally, and I'll probably visit the forums at revora to see what progress, if any, is being made on the Dark Angels mod but I will no longer be an active member of the team for the foreseeable future.

My main concern for any project for anything in life is always going to be leadership. Projects live or massively die based on a Master/Commander's passion to see the whole idea through. Case in point ThousandSons -- we allow things in life to die if good men don't care. We Dark Angels is a project that started last May and fell into the doldrums last Sept/Oct so what DA managed to accomplish in such a short period is nothing short of a bloody modding miracle.

The frick'n hell I'm gonna see this die massively considering the amazing state of the current build..

I really need a good Team Leader and/or Dark Angel "Fluff Monkey" to assist here. Part of me things Imperial Honor for this role but unsure on his occupation with work.

Anyway, with the currently excellent state of the most up-to-date build, I am confident we can deliver.

Yeah well I could hardly up sticks and leave without saying anything. I had the most up to date version of the mod sitting on my HDD.

Who knows if the mod gets moving again and I find the "passion" I had when Morat, Greenphearo, RW Retribution, Thud and myself started out on this journey then I may offer to lend a hand if the team wants me on-board again.

I know I'm always flapping my lips about open betas and what not, but if the latest version is as good as people say, polished or not why not release an open beta.

Reason I say this is so many DoW mods end up failing to see completion while the rest of the community sit and wait, a few who may have the skills needed to see one to completeion but no one ever gets to see, never mind test whats been done so far.

Of any modding community I have ever been a part of the DoW one is by far and above all overs the most closed off when it comes to betas of WIP's.

How about it? Not only for this but other projects too ( I speak generally) maybe it will inject a little more life into this and the other mods so instead of endless posts about "Updates?" or "Can we see pics?" we all might see some posts that allude to more than "awesome work, cant wait to play this". Especially when so few ever get to be played.

Aside this, Ravenmorphious, that you have been upfront and informed the community of your position is both noble and worthy of respect. When so many other modders just down tools and walk away without so much as a word you are a breath of fresh air.

I would offer to help, but 3D development is a skill I do not possess.

I, for one, don't think that is true, and you shouldn't put such statements in your posts unless you have the proof to back them up. Even then, such statements should remain unsaid because it doesn't do anything to promote goodwill between yourself and modders.

Just my 2 cents, sorry to derail the thread.

No Gorb I think gerberman is correct in what he said, perhaps it shouldn't be said though.

I could have just walked away and lurked around here and never give a reason why I left but Thud and many people here in the community have helped tremendously with a past time I only picked up a year or so ago and before then I'd never modded a game or done any coding past a bit of text handling in Basic back in the early 90s...

I owe a big thank you to many of the people here for helping me to learn how to code what I have coded for the mod, so out of respect for my fellow modders and DA mod team members more than anything I felt I should be honest.

Some people do leave mod teams without giving a reason, despite being contacted, and are often seen to be lurking here at relicnews.

I don't like to say that as it's not good for relations either but people really should be more open and honest, if only as a matter of respect.

I can explain why betas are often closed, it's because a - work has a habit of being leaked and falsely taken credit for (happens a lot in the Sim Racing mod community), and b - quite often the beta versions are not really very well polished.

The DA mod for example suffers from many graphical issues that need solving and I think they would detract from the overall level of quality I personally would like to see from the mod if it's released now as a public beta, and yes I did say I've suggested offering the mod to the community but I don't mean as an open beta.

And no I'm not slating the mod now that I've left the team, just pointing out one reason why it hasn't been released as a public beta yet.

God Speed RM. We will miss the hell out of you. You were our "Go-Getter" on the mod team and the only one of us who got the ball rolling on issues we needed to complete.

The mod wont die off but may become idle due to our losses. Green first and now Raven is a serious blow to our manpower. Unfortunately I am no coder or 3d artist and I know not the first thing in either department.

As far as releasing the mod to the public as it stands is not my call. Personally I feel the code and AI are top notch but the art needs some serious work. I have done what I can with the 2d aspect of the project and still have some things up my sleeve for some UI and Icon work. Nothing professional (like the FoK team) by any stretch of the imagination, but I feel it is still unique and very "on-the-spot" for our Dark Angels.

I would post some screens of the progress that has been made but unfortunately I am unable to get Soul Storm working in Wine. (I think the code is different from DC). However the mod does somewhat work (however is not intended to run) on Dark Crusade.

In all aspects and with total respect to the mod team... The mod is awesome but still needs alot of work to be put before the public. That is not to go without saying that it would not spark a renewed interest in getting the mod back on track. I will talk to the mod team and see what is on everyones mind and get back to the community with more news.

Keep your chins up DA fans. The Emperors light is still at the end of the tunnel.

Well it's as much your call as it is Thuds or mine RW.

Anyway, for the people watching this thread, I have a bit of news. You are all watching the thread aren't you, if not why not?

No I haven't returned to the mod team full time...

...but the team has found a new 3d modeller and he's doing some quite good looking Terminator Armoured commander models (Chaplain, Librarian, Master of the Deathwing etc.) at the moment.

He's signed up at revora as Brother-Captain Vesuvious, but he can't sign up here at this time because he only has a hotmail account so I'm not sure if he'll be making himself known here at any time.

Anyway I just thought I'd pass on that bit of news, I'm still posting my views on what's currently going on (the mod has a bit of life again it seems) so I guess I haven't completely left the team.

Seems I just can't stay away despite not really being able to do anything useful...

Have no fear Chaplain 261 is here !!! Lets go Battle Brothers and support the holy cause of bringing the true brethren Chapter of the Dark Angels into Dawn of War.
