    We are, of course, still alive. In fact, I'm happy to announce that we've been in touch with this forum's own Riess and Ammon-Ra, and are working towards including select works of theirs into the mod. That should be quite exciting as it develops.

    Other than that, work progresses. The Ion frigate is undergoing texture and polish, and I feel confident enough to show off the penguin's model at this time.



    Still not finalized, quite yet, but pretty damn cool I think.

    I have survived yet another semester, and in the waning days of it found new purchase with modeling. Consequently, I have a few things to show you. The first you have seen before, but not in it's current form.




    The second, you won't have seen but may find familiar if you have been with us long.



    The third, you could possibly have seen before, but only very recently.



    That's it for my models, but they astute of you may have seen a few things in that last that are hard to identify, but rather than make you squint at those tiny pixels, have a gander.



    Models by Ammon Ra, concepts by Riess. They may yet see some modification before they get in the game, but not drastically. As soon as we run out of untextured finished models of our own, Avatar will slap some pretty textures on them and we'll have them in the game.


    Addendum: We've put some stuff up in the studio forums for checking out. A selection of backstory readings for your critique, a very pretty and ongoing mapping effort, and some video of me at work.

    Baroness, while I appreciate the enthusiasm, this thread is for exhibition and recruitment for this mod alone, which those ships are not a part of. I'd appreciate it if you could take the request and screenshots to their own thread in the main Tanis Shipyards forum so this one can stay on topic and we can avoid any potential confusion. And, to answer your original question, any free texturers I have any sway over I would have already dragged into HW:@, so they'd all be no longer free. Not that it is a long list to begin with.

    Points of interest are the new stuff on the nose. Is it not delicious?

    I once again found myself out of communication with the artist, needing input, wanting to model, and having a stack of old concepts that were waiting to be modeled. So.



    Sometimes these things just happen, you know? I hope you enjoy this glimpse at a rather new design aesthetic.

    Just tested the version 0.0.2 and have to say that you guys did a great job.
    The vaygr gunship bears resemblance to turanic technology - i.e. the engines have similar color (at least I think so).
    The frigates (Ion and Assault) are looking great, the destroyer too, I just want to criticise one thing: The destroyers have red ions and red energy weapons, whereas the assault frigate features blue ion-pulse-hull-defense-side-mounted-ai-controlled-anti-fighter beams. (sorry, could not resist ) Looks a bit displaced in contrast to all the red I think. But thats just my opinion.
    Keep it on people. Looking forward to the remake of my favorite ship in HW1: Ion Array Friggy!
    PS: Great that frigates are not gunfood anymore.

    EDIT: Just noticed the "rudders" at the bigger ships - great idea!

    There are still things to be done on it. Goblins, lower LODs, death events, and so on. We've decided it's more efficient if I finish up our fighters and get them ready for texturing before moving on to do that, so there will be a moderate delay before 0.0.3.0 is ready.

    Have you already considered making ship icons? And if yes, will they look like this:

    (Normal HW2 Style I would say) or will you use another style?

    We hope to eventually rework the interface considerably, and doing so probably eliminate those icons entirely, so we haven't expended any effort on making them. However, that may be a long way off or in fact never happen, so if you are willing to make icons in that vein yourself, we'd be willing to try to put them in place. Because damn, that looks pretty cool.

    Yes, of course you may use them. I now have an updated corvette icon and another one for the destroyer, but I am afraid to have to say that I didn´t manage to get them ingame so properly so far.
    I will send you an Email with the icons so that I dont need to convert them to jpg making them loose their alpha channels.
    EDIT: Okay, bad idea with the Email - the board refuses to give it to me
    I could also post them on fileshack or something if you would prefer that...

    Hmmm... Mixed feelings on the interceptor concept, though this is really down to personal taste; it's much closer to the old Blade interceptor in appearance and design philosophy than the HW2 one, but then I've always found the old Kushan fighter designs rather unattractive compared to the sportier interceptor in the new game.

    Homedax: Being able to do it ourselves is always cool, having someone else care enough to want to do it for us is even cooler.

    HisDivineShadow: The 0.0.2.0 version, which contains the Vaygr gunship, and kushan corvette, destroyer, and assault frigate, is available on our modDB downloads page. When the next ship is all ready to go, we'll release 0.0.3.0 with a fair bit of fanfare.

    Anything you think look good and is a decent graphical representation of what your work is all about.

    Also, I will sort the pics in the album into sub albums. In game screens is one thing, 3d-environment another and perhaps some Teaser shots or alike. Depends on what I have to work with.

    That is the best interceptor i have ever seen........i dont care if the memories of hiigara want to do with the kushan race, but that interceptor would be a killer addon..........itssssssssssss freeegiiin awesome

    Yeah, it's the HW1 carrier. I doubled the size of the texture sheets, hit it with PSE's sharpen feature a few times, and fixed some texture discontinuities across the hull, as well as added in the chevron-shaped stripes that are part of our Higaaran fleet.

    This carrier is serving as a placeholder while I design the new carrier (and while I chug away at textures and Siber chugs away at models and animated textures).

    Someday we may spruce it up to snuff to serve as NPC eyecandy in singleplayer missions, but we might do away with it altogether since I dearly, dearly love the design and am not straying too far with the new version.

    GREAT ships! Sadly, I don't have HW2, but the ships are very well done and fit with the old Kushan ships better than the actual HW2 ships I've seen.

    Oh,John,no!: There will be a total of ten complete factions. Four will definately be playable, three will maybe be playable, and three will definately be NPC factions.

    Danny: We'll have the Ion Frigate out ASAP. It is totally impossible to accurate predict the finish date of the mod given the volume of material incomplete, but we hope to have a UNH faction complete /soon/.

    Thanks for the encouragement. Stick around a bit and we'll have something to actually -play- with. I promise.

    Wow you guys have made a great deal of progress here with a difficult concept, congrats!

    Concerning frigates: I felt like HW2 made a shoddy attempt at frigates; at least on the Hiigaran side. In HW1 they were right slow, even the destroyers could seemingly outrun them (annoying but realistic). However, they were quite strong, making them useful the whole game. In homeworld 2, they maintained the same characteristic lack of speed, but also lost a good bit of survivability. I found them to be useless beyond a staying tactic till I got BC's and DD's.

    How do you plan to deal with frigates in this realm? Are they actually going to be useful like they were in HW 1 or are they going to be the first ships to die in any sizable battle...again?

    Also, how are you planning to balance the Hiigaran ICF? Personally, I felt like in HW2 it was great againt....hmmm....carriers. Without strike craft. Otherwise it did a great job of dying and not hurting the enemy nearly enough. Will this version be armed with a main gun worthy of avoiding or will it actually have secondary batteries making it somewhat more useful?

    In HW1 the destroyer was almost infinitesimally faster than the frigates (325 m/s speed compared to 315 for the assault frigate and 300 for the ion frigate).

    We decided to build on this (for the Higaaran destroyer at least), so that the Higaaran destroyer is significantly quicker than their frigates. For the three sizes of capital ships (frigates, destroyers, and cruisers), we wanted each one to do something a little bit different.

    To answer one of your questions directly: Ion Frigates mount the most powerful ion cannon in the Higaaran fleet, with greater range and damage than both destroyer and cruiser turrets. Ion Frigates are the best way to put heavy ion cannons in the field; they're the most efficient damage per dollar you'll get out of big ships. We're abandoning the rock-paper-scissors weapon damage almost entirely; if a weapon does 2500 damage to a frigate, it will do 2500 damage to a corvette and to a cruiser. This will cut down on the frigate-hate a lot.

    Our ICFs haven't got any secondary guns, though, with every bit of internal space taken up by cooling systems and the reactor powering the mothership-class ion weapon. If a battlefleet focuses on them, they'll go down for sure, but their range means you can put them behind a wall of assault frigates (tougher frigates) or larger capital ships.

    Destroyers are gonna be your fast raiding force. Capable of catching resourcers and armed with energy cannons they're mobile reserve forces. They also are tough and shooty enough to do just fine in a wall of battle.

    Cruisers are the best way to put HP into the field. Their armament is certainly devastating, but they have the best HP per RU. One of these bad boys will hold out for a while, and they've got enough punch to be hard to ignore. They're also going to be the best at self-repair, just like in HW1.

    Other factions will not adhere to this balancing scheme perfectly. We intend to have the Taiidani ships match the Higaaran pretty closely (like in HW1), but as you may have gathered from our Vaygr gunship, the new factions will be different.
