Well I waited out for 0.45 so I guess I'll have to wait patiently for 0.5.

The Tyranid team is sorta in a down-mode currently. Not getting any updates for them so I've been in a holding pattern updating their AI for almost what seems like a year.

  3. #53
It's been over a year since they last updated, hasn't it?

I'll have to take it offline with the major Tyranid powerbrokers to see whats going on? Croax had a very bad start to '09 so he had to deal with that which drastically slowed the project (understandable) but otherwise the team itself is not talking. Not sure whats up. That illusive 0.5 build is still in-progress I suppose.

Styrer's Splinterfleet (Tyranid competitor of sorts :P ) is also stuck due to AE coding boogle so chatted with Styrer on this via MSN to see if Kresjah is cool with moving it along (based on work load). No clue what came out of it.

Whole DoW1 community is pining for anything Tyranid since both these are amazing projects.

Yeah same.. when he comes online though.. think its the unique resource/build system the Nid team is stuck on these many MANY months which is totally holding back 0.5.

Hello Tyranid Mod Team, I'm the project manager of the Apocalypse Mod Team and I loved your mods especially the hard work you put into every detail of every model. The code, the combat and the game play is all fabulous.

As to version 1.0 and 1.19 of the Apocalypse mods containing the Tyranids, I am so sorry. I really had no idea at the time that you needed permission from the creators first before you just credit them. Still you have made the Apocalypse mods awesome just by the presence of the Tyranids. I have no idea exactly where to post but I shouldn't really spam out messages across the web.

Also, the second purpose of this post was to request permission for the use of the Tyranids in XP2, New Races. I wanted both the Tyranids and the Daemonhunters to take place within but I'd appreciate your permission more. Again I'm sorry for what happened in the past but maybe I can make it up to you guys some day. Hope to see 0.5 in action and keep up the good work.
    JT - The awesome!

Krronus: Contact Zaha or other members of the team via their forums: http://tyranids.gameapollo.com

Let them know about how you would like to include the 'Nids in your mod, though if they allow it you won't be able to include the files in your download (or most likely you won't, anyway... I don't know of any mod that they've done this with.) Folks will have to download the Tyranid mod separately from yours, and your mod will need to reference the Tyranid mod files in its .module file. If the team grants permission, they can likely give you more information on how to do this if you're confused.

Oh I see, like a required mod right? Make a mod, have that mod require another mod, then bam! Thanks. I'll still ask permission from the guys you mentioned.

@Krronus - what's this son of a! crap?.. I was implying that the tyranid mod is going slow. Also that most of the people working on it have not shown any updates in the past months, so hence I assumed they weren't around or are too busy to post nowadays.

  14. #64
No comment. No implied saying, I got nothing to add. Thnx.

ok back to topic. Truthfully I don't think the Tyranid mod will be released anytime soon. Or even this year, but I hope I'm wrong. That "tiny bit of code" is the big problem of the mod team. Just goes to show that one small thing can be a big difference.

If anyone is still looking here, the file I get from both links doesn't seem to work, it's an unknown file type that refuses to run without something running it, only I don't know what it could possibly be.

    Anyone have any ideas?

It's not a .rar file, nor is it a .zip, it doesn't seem to be packaged at all. If it is a virus, then filefront need to be informed that one of the files they're hosting has been corrupted, similarly moddb need to be informed that they have a link to said corrupt file.

Since I doubt that two reputable websites can let the same thing slip through their nets, i'm going to go out on a limb and concur with my Kaspersky and Malwarebytes scans that say it's not a virus.

It's an installer program that detects where you installed your game and then extracts the Tyranid mod files there. All you have to do is run the installer.

I just downloaded it from Filefront and it worked.

It still isn't working for me third time around, it just keeps asking me for a program to run it. Does the installer need anything special to run?

No. It just runs on its own.

It is an exe, so it runs itself without need for another app.
Have you re-downloaded it or are you trying with the same file? If the latter, download corruption might be the reason. If the former, are you running it with administrator rights? Also, temporarily disable your AV and try to run it.

It's the third re-download and i'm running everything as I should be. This is the first time i've ever downloaded a mod that's had this issue.

The file size should be around 49 megabytes. It sounds like your connection is getting reset.

Problem solved, the file I got didn't have the .exe extention, I just manually added it and it seems to be working now.

CompTIA A+ and N+ certified yet able to miss something like that -.- I blame it on the fact I had my N+ exam today and found about 1/3 of the questions were about things not covered in my course and resources (including the CompTIA N+ manual). How I managed to pass is beyond me, similarly so with a few of my peers.

What's this now?! There has been a new beta released on Moddb with a new one imminent? Nice of anyone to tell me:

I checked Zahaqiel profile and it says he's been inactive on RelicNews since February 21st, but still, an update to this thread's 1st post is in order me thinks.

Specially if there's going to be a 0.5b2 soon-ish! Wooooooooot!

  29. #79
    God damn it Zaha...

Alright, yes there's a new beta, yes it's completely awesome, and yes you should apply to be an internal tester and get it early.

  30. #80
Too unreliable to apply. I'll be happy if the internal beta doesn't take as long as the Dark Angels mod one

  31. #81
Public betas... I don't understand why people in DoW modding do not use public beta's more. The DoW modding scene has to be one of the most closed shop ones ever! Public betas = massive feedback immediately - sure you gotta sift through some stupid (angry!) comments but those can be useful too.

Either way, it is great to see this absolutely unique mod moving forward still.

Really glad to see some progress on this mod. I played it a few years ago and thought that it was really good--just needed a few animations and polish. Anyhow, I hope that the team goes ahead and pushes to the finish line.
Download my DoW maps "Redemptus Reloaded" (8p) and "Shrine of Sephreus" (2p) here.

You should probably ask before you actually do it.

@Zahariel: Sheper is asking for permission for an attrib-based rework of the mod to fit within DoW:Pro (this was probably obvious, but hey ).

I knew I'd been forgetting to check up somewhere.

Normally I'd consult the mod team on these sorts of requests, but given that this isn't the first time we've been asked this question I can cite the previous decisions: sorry no.

We're doing our best to make our mod combiner-compatible at the .module file level. But since (a) our mod is still subject to change, and (b) the ownership status of all the different components that make up our mod, we do not give people permission to modify and redistribute the mod itself.

And we'll have a thread up for 0.5b2 soon hopefully.

  37. #87
Snif .. allright I stay in holyday and don t work for the rework attrib and hope the 0.5b2 . I stay tune
