Today's perfect computer game for you?

Say you were required to give 2 million dollars to a gaming company to develop a game specifically that would interest you. Assume it's completely private, so it's not a money-making venture, and you'll never have to worry about selling it to someone else or appealing to the mass market - it's for you and your friends only.

    Discuss
    1) What would be the genre (or mixed genres)?
    2) What would be the setting? (or gaming universe, if set in an existing one?)
    3) What (if any) would be the general theme/storyline?

    Stipulations:
    - Must be realistically achievable and playable on TODAY'S high-end systems. Think GeForce FX or Radeon 9800, on a Pentium 3GHz with 1Gb RAM. No virtual reality or vaporware crap.
    - It's not THAT much cash that you could create a game that mixes all the genres out there. So you couldn't have, for example, a first-person shooter/real-time strat/adventure/simulation/racing game.

    Thoughts?

    1) Star Wars Themed Homeworld 2 game (I'm sure its going to happen anyways....)

    2) Star Trek Themed Homeworld 2 game where you choose from these races: Klingon, Ferengi, Romulans, Borg, Federation, that one biological species....8479 or some shit, and the Q Continuum (would have to be somewhat limited.....because I mean shit....you could just go *snap* no more you

    Hmm... tough question.

2 concepts I've always thought would be fantastic to play were these:

    1) An fps style hack-and-slash that follows a campaign in medievel total war (or in fact any of the total war series). something akin to Dynasty warriors on the PS2 but more developed.

    2) An FPS in the Homeworld universe, something akin to Voyager Elite Force or whatever it was called (although possibly better executed). Life as a marine boarding ships perhaps? or a space sim as an interceptor pilot? As for story line, it may be nice to follow through the HW1 campaign from this new perspective (pilot i think would be best). Then I could have the sequesl of the HW2 campaign! Man that would rock... :guitar:

Combined space-sim/RTS ie on some missions you control battlegroups a la HW and on others you fly fighters or corvettes or whatever. And it will definately be one with the option of not playing as human.

    1) Genre - RTS/Building Simulation (think SimCity)
    2) Setting - Homeworld Universe
    3) Theme/General Storyline - Time is Zero Years After Land Fall. Work to rebuild the Hiigaran Empire, city by city, world by world, trade route by trade route. Research new technologies, make trade, defend worlds, switch into RTS aspect for major battles, or for simulation of real time trade and movement. Campaigns include rebuilding of Hiigaran empire up to the end times; exodus of Republican Taiidani; etc.

Either a WingCommander type game (C'mon, been ages since Freespace and Starlancer...), or my Jovian Wars project, an 'omage to Terra Nova: Strike Force Centauri

    1) A tremendously detailed and realistic World war 2 RTS( I have seen almost none) Historically accurate, but the Axis can win the war if you play well.Battlefield 1942 graphics in an RTS.

    2) think Space Empires played like Homeworld with Homeworld 2 graphics. You have a whole galaxy out for the conquering. You take over planets and build fleets and hyperspace from system to system.

    3) A huge open ended RPG(think pen and paper freedom mixed with a computer to take care of the mechanics and graphics) where you can do anything physically possible(imagine burning down a city for fun).

My games are sort of bordering on what is realistically possible, but i think they are possible with time.

    Option 1:
    Genre - RTS
Focus - I would make the unit AI to be as absolutely autonomous as possible. Ideally, you would never have to give any orders besides "Go harass here" or "level this base." This would allow you to paint an effective strategy with a much larger brush, coordinating thousands of units instead of the mere handful we're used to today.

    Option 2:
    Genre - RPG
Focus - an open ended, leveless, physically accurate RPG where your actions have a real effect on your world.

You get better at any one skill by practicing it. Fighting in combat helps you hit harder and move faster. Casting spells increases your expertise in that spell and its close cousins. No amount of kicking sewer rats will help your healing abilities one jot.

Your actions have an impact on the world. I imagine multiple kingdoms starting out deadlocked, some waging war, some not. Your actions (ex. leading a raiding party to burn some villages) could help or hinder any of these kingdoms. The game would be very open-ended, with endings ranging from the creation of a new peaceful era where you are lauded as a hero, to total chaos and the downfall of civilization, where your name and the names of all the kingdoms are lost in the mists of time.

hmm I like Numenor's second one and:

because it doesn't have to be liked by anyone else I'd love a game kinda like outpost 1 / outpost 2 where you have to control a colony with not too distant tech. (space colony is kinda liek it but too sims like)

The perfect RPG. Completely customizable characters like from D&D, but with the epic storyline like FF. Where you can do anything that comes to mind, as long as its humanly possible. (Unless your like a orc, or elf). Like kill anyone you see. Or customize your weapongs and armour. Burn down the town, or light people on fire that walking down the street. Set in a fantasy world.

aftermath - that one would violate the guidelines. It would cost WAY more than a couple million to program a reality simulator like that.

I'd like to play Paladrache's game - provided it involved a healthy dose of war - such as fighting off the remnants of the Taiidani.

A MMOG that is actually well made (Don't tell me about the MMOG you're playing that's so great. I've played it. It sucks. There isn't a single MMOG on the market that has gameplay/interface that would be considered up to par if it weren't a MMOG. Somehow we play them anyway).

Otherwise I'll just take a PC port of the Dynasty Warriors series. PC needs more action games

an MMORPG that's set in Middle-Earth, either at the end of the First age, just before the Battle of a thousand tears (if i remember the name correctly), in the time of Numenor (the second age), or in the early Third Age during the time of the great Kings of Gondor and Arnor.

To walk through Osgoliath at its peek, and see Eregion (where the three, the seven and the nine Rings were made) or to see Gondolin and Doriath... 't would be great

    My time eh? Interesting.

Another fun game for all the Tycoon's out there:

Kharak Tycoon. Buy up the companies and build a mothership before 1999. Secondary objective: Locate a suitable S'jet.

Something like Morrowind, only much better and not so constricted. With a better story and the AD&D 3rd ed rules.

Wow, great idea, imagine a game like imperium galactica 1 and 2, but with a much better interface with lots more options and graphics, and the battlemode where fleets met, was the actual normal homeworld mode we know of.

So when you fight near planets you can see them in the background in the battle mode, and planetary defences can help you.

Plus all the fun stuff, like assasinating enemy leaders and stuff, by training spies and assasins and diplomats.

Dunno what Paladrache had exactly in mind, but I'm thinking along the lines of Homeworld meets Imperium Galactica meets Anno 1602/1503.

    GENRE: God Game
    SETTING: Anywhere you want it
PREMISE: Basically a revamped SimEarth. Build a planet from the core up, add an atmosphere, share vigorously and let live. Control weather patterns, geological events, meteor impacts and watch as civilization grows up on your tiny oasis, or create a planet that's truly from hell (with fire and brimstone and never ending vulcanism). All in glorious 3D and fluid physics.

I want an adaptation of Privateer. The setting and story would be similar to Privateer, but with more branching missions, content, and such. I also want the option to go into first person while I'm out of my ship and interact with my environment. Levels/rank would also be nice. I want the graphics to be on par with Half-Life 2, perhaps made with the same engine (for first person of course). I want the in ship/space graphics to be equally appealing, but I don't know of any engines for this genre on par with Source.

Basically, a space sim/first person shooter/rpg game that HAS joystick support.

I tend to favor games of a historical nature---warfare in particular.

What I would like to do is to pay these imaginary developers to revamp a few of my all time favorite sims/games to the current graphic and technological standards.

Two that come to mind are are the classic but long in the tooth sims Red Baron and Panzer Commander

Next, I want both a Napoleonic and a US Civil war game modeled after the Total war style of war games.

If there's any money left, next I want an Age of Sail naval game that makes me truly feel like a virtual John Paul Jones or Horatio Nelson.

Maybe what I really need a functioning holideck from Star Trek series. Would two million buy one of those?

Lastly, I, ah, er, I want to be----a---a lumberjack.

This probably would not be the game perfectly suited to me, but it is something I'd really like. A FPS driving game based on the Interstate '82 mod of Battlefield 1942, with older sports cars and such with a few guns on them and wearing ridiculous 80's outfits and toting huge pistols and being able to say ridiculous 80's taunts and such (Im gonna git you suckah! Eat my short shorts!). Physics should be similar to Battlefield physics but with better explosions and player animations, should be focused on multiplayer but have a fairly good single player skirmish mode.

This game should make you consistently crack up laughing when you hit some guy looking like Mr. T who is holding a large pink desert eagle with a crazy colored convertible touting a large rocket-engine on the back. oTher times it should make you be amazed as you watch a multiple car pile up cause a thundering explosion.

Which brings me to an idea of a second game, which would be entirely based on car chases. Think of a mix of the Driver series and Stuntman and Grand Theft Auto. But this game will have action movie physics and explosions (that means no sprite explosions but actual good looking flame). As in a typical mission will be drive from New Jersey to Long Island while being chased by the military and police. Of course you realistically couldn't make it, but this game will be unrealistic, it will just be damn cool.

You know how many movies have police cars spinning out crashing flipping end over end and abruptly blowing up in a spectacular fireball, well that would consistently happen in this game and it would look truly amazing (cars that can bend and mishapen and explode). Also it must have a good replay function.

i'd get Rockstar to make me a game where i have almost complete freedom in what i do. it's set in modern day, and i get to choose what kind of life i live, who i sleep with, what i do for a living etc. and where it keeps going to, like if i wind up in jail, i gotta bust out.

i know it's all not possible, but hey, you said the 'perfect game'. it would be rated M for all the sex and drug abuse by the way. and if i played online, the minimum age would be 18 to assure some good llama control.

speaking of which, did you ever play that game called Drug Wars on your TI-83 calculator? it was all-text, but it was awesome. add some females in the mix and some decent graphics, and you got something near what i'm looking for.

I've always wanted to see a large sci-fi MMO game. There would be 2 or possibly 3 factions, Humans and a alien species that they are at war with, and players play as both humans and aliens. When you start the game you choose from different jobs, so you could be a marine, fighter/bomber pilot, and perhaps even a few select people being able to command larger ships such as frigates and cruisers. Marines would board enemy craft, and in turn repell enemy boarders on their own craft. Fighter pilots would attack enemy fighters and bombers, and bomber pilots would drop large payloads onto enemy capital ships. And a select few people would man the capial ship gun turrets, and captain them. People would also probably train for their roles in a slightly similar fasion to the America's Army game, only more in depth, and you would train with actual real people. So for example, you and dosens of other people who want to be marines go though tons of exercises together learning controlls and weapons, and going though extensive training simulations until you get to the point where you think "HA! I'm ready for anything" then you get shiped out to the front only to find you have quite a bit to learn. Things such as being a pilot or gunner/officer would be alot harder to get, although in what way I'm really not sure. There would be large campaings put together by the GMs. The GMs would be like the admirals of each side directing deployment of their forces, and advancing the story. Unfortunatly the sheer numbers of players involved and ship graphics would make it just about impossible to run. Not only do you have users having to render all the graphics, but you would need monster servers to keep up all that bandwidth for large fleet battles. And then you would have tons of people wanting to be fighter pilots and starship captains and none wanting to fill other roles, and such.

I and my friend think that the most attractive cgame would be a "Antisocial Life Sim".
There you can do anything you can in real life (e.g. kill neighbors who don't let you sleep and ... there must be so many possibilities)
