Yeah, and I don't get it why historical accuracy for CoH fanboiz here is serious business. Can't we all just leave the 1944-45 timeline and just add the 1940s glories armies of Italy and France? Can't we just drop the accurate bull with Europe maps not allowing the Japs to come rolling in Bastogne?
Copy my image code if you want Japan in a CoH expansion!
BTW, fuck balancing. Give us the Japanese, Russians, Italians and French in CoH, pls awesome Relic team.
Nope, no mixed fronts. Same reason why we don't get mirror matches.
- sincerely, the Sign Painter
as long as you cant have mirror matches I dont care to much.
I just dont want to see Wehr vs pe , wehr vs wehr or usa vs usa etc etc
I love the psychology involved. Reminds me of when i used to play BF2. The endless discussions about the physical realism of some aspects of the game...noone ever complained about the ability to "spawn" or the fact that when you enter / exit a vehicle you teleport into it. Or spawning from squad leaders...
These just go right under the radar.
Same here. Breaching "historical accuracy", whatever that is, is a nono. Endless other breaches of realism (yes all of which relate to historical accuracy wether anyone cares to admit: snipers cloaking???)...not even an issue.
Geography does mean anything in coh multiplay games. The maps are metaphors for reality...not geographical descriptions. Artillery doesnt fire at targets 10 meters away. Tanks where used at massive ranges.
i dont know wether anyone hs said this becasue i cant be bothered to read 14 pages, but the japanese would be a boring faction. they did have particularly varied unit, wasnt the type 95 the only tank they had ?
will CoH: TV have higher minimum specs? b/c im worried that my computer, while it can play CoH on the highest settings, wont be able to play this new one which will probably have much better graphics.....

As far as having the Japanese fighting in Europe, don't think of it as actual history, think of it more as a What If... history! What if the Japs won the battle of Midway? What if the MacArthur never returned to the Philippines? What if China fell to the Japs and merged the Eastern front with the western front?
That's the beauty of the game. Though being historically based, doesn't necessarily mean it has to be historically accurate. Imagination is the key to having fun... So moving back in time to include Italians would also be great! Nobody said the game has to be historically accurate, otherwise Axis players would lose the game in most of the maps.
Fun=More games sold, Historical Accuracy=45 year old high school teacher with back problems.

Having a "what if" scenario seems really weird...It'd change the whole historical background of the game. "What if France had never been invaded?" and things like that don't seem like a good mix. While historical accuracy isn't necessary for the game, having alternate history scenarios just seems out of place.
Anyways, on the topic of Tales of Valor, there will be a little bit of news about it today basically confirming that it is a real product...
Whats the Problem here?...Just let the new factions fight against each other, not the old wehr and Allies+create new maps for all, that would be the best you can do .
I have only one concern: MORE MAPS
If you could balance brits in 2v2 you can start balance the pe in 1v1!Originally Posted by DrChengele

Well after looking at the news Pyros mentioned it seems like they have a some DLC in a box for us, so that will be the tiger ace campaign then. I hope they do at least 1 more before releasing it since that would make it more worthwhile a purchase.
I said that is one of the options. There is no doubt that ToV is related to the DLC, so either Amazon heard ToV and messed up, or THQ is planning to box the DLC for retail outlets. However, if it is a retail product, I am sure it'd contain more than one "Tale" (ie campaign), because paying the price of CoH/OF for one campaign seems odd.
I think the "tales" will be about some douctrines or units, like:
Tiger Ace
Airborne
US Armor
Canadians
Fallschirmjäger
Brazilian CoH Community
http://bfcentral.oi.com.br/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=233
I'd like to see the russians, as they were one of the key factors in the war.
As much as we all can clamor about wanting an Eastern Front expansion, it seems much more likely that Tales of Valor (dammit, every time i wanna type ToV, I think Tales of Vesperia) will be a collection of DLC packs for us to consume.
Whatever the hell it is, I just want to know what it is. We have known about it for a while, hell they even added shit to the beta. Yet thay ain't telling us shit.
We shall rule this galaxy once more.
@nigo... why do you want the canadians? They better bring in the British Paratroopers, the commando jeep and sniper!!![]()

lol Blurp, Its just a thought
maybe will see some tale about the Commandos too....
thats my bet, tales about units/douctrines
Because relic is a canadian company. Thats why in one way or another there has been canadians in the CoH campaigns , well maybe not the PE one.Originally Posted by Blurp

True it has not been 100% confirmed and we may yet be lucky and Tales of Valour be a full expansion, but the upcoming DLC does seem to lean more to the idea of it be retail pack of DLC. The reason I said that I hoped for at least 1 more "tale" so to speak was just gumpf really. The price listed on amazon like everything else related to TOV is still up in the air, so they may yet release just the tiger ace campaign for those who cannot buy online content. Still if that was the price on release then I would expect more than just that.
What bothers me is that the balance beta very well could be "Tales of Valour". In other words, everyone who was playing the balance beta just donated time to QA a retail product.
I'm hoping I'm wrong, and the work people did QA'ing the balance beta was for a free patch for CoH. I'm okay downloading something and using it, contributing improvement ideas/managing wiki posts, and reporting bugs, if at the end of the day I get to see a better product for it. If at the end of the day, all of those things were to make someone else money, then that's pretty disappointing.
I'd like to hear one way or another what "Tales" is, and whether or not the balance beta people have been working unknowingly doing QA and balance work on a retail product.
Uh yeah the BETA is for the new patch, there has been no new content other then those snapshots of some new skins.
*By snapshots I mean the one patch where they were leaked.*

Nomad if you ever wonder about the beta, try it.
It needs more people anyways.
Retail players are always curious as to how the beta's going.
Well it's not, since all those retail players are too lazy to actually try it themselves.
And it doesn't feature any 'testing' for Tales of Valor, there was a small bit of content at one point but this was removed. The beta is for testing balance (amongst sound and connection changes), but it may end only when Tales of Valor is ready, and be released as a patch for both Retail and enabling users to get the DLC.
I've been playing the beta for a while.. been making posts in the beta forum before there was the wiki page... The problem is that it's been so long since there's been real balance activity that most people have stopped playing the beta. Things have stalled. The last few patches have been art and sound, and not much else.
Why has the beta stalled like this? so that we can have 8 new sp missions (~4-5 hrs content), and some new unit textures?
Thanks, but.... this game isn't really about single player, right?

As pure fan hypothesis, am I one of the only ones who think the Battle of the Scheldt would have a great Canadian campaign potential?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_the_Scheldt
I mean, just stuff like the use of flamethrower-equipped Wasp(at least, how they were used) pretty much helped the Canadians begin to set apart from "conventional" pretty doctrine(just look at how they opened their way through a canal using those by firing the flamethrowers over it combined with artillery, for one thing).
@Panzer Jager
Why is it that if people not on the beta are called lazy? What if they are not big MP players like many are, or just haven't got the drive space to spare? Since there are many factors that could prevent people from taking part, that sweeping statement seems a little unfair. Now obviously some people yes know about it and are not playing, but that doesn't mean everyone has to be lumped in with them does it?
@Ludovsky
If tales is a bunch of mini campaigns, then I would like to see a Canadian and Polish one, depending if they want to go and record entirely new voices etc. for a mini pack, but that would be cool. Maybe even a Free french campaign. You could bring in several new variant tank types and maybe even a few new weapons for those troops. Not sure what impact if any that would have for MP matches. (in the sense of skins/maps)
Since I often see a high number of skirmish games (single player games) being played, I would disagree with that statement.Originally Posted by Nomad_Wanderer
I don't know if those numbers take campaign games into consideration or purely skirmish but, either way, it's safe to say a lot of folks play single player games.
I think campaign games have their own category, although maybe that's just in the beta. I don't remember.
I think the skirmish category might include people watching replays, though.
So perhaps a bigger, more souped up version of Oblivions "Knights of the Nine" style dealio?
IE Campaigns + Additional random DLC odds and ends.
But if Relic want to make more money, then there is only one way left. And for all those who pirated the game, and can only play singleplayer, they should make the multiplayer aspects so good that someone would actually be willing to fork out on the games expensive price tag, to enjoy these aspects that they cannot get from a pirated copy. Not to mention all of the people who installed it on their mates machines with the serial key, but told them, hey you know what, this game is so un-balanced and such a spam fest in multiplayer that you should just play single player skirmishes. (Hence yet another potential customer who doesn't buy the game, because the multiplayer aspect, just isnt worth the cost over free single player content).
So if people say they really only play singleplayer they are pirates? Wow thx for that. I don't play multiplayer but own legitimate copies of both games since I enjoyed the campaign and skirmish more than Multiplayer online.
@Compel
If they did something like knights of the nine with new content for the existing factions but add other campaigns that would be pretty cool. I was wondering if the DLC could one day add a new force to the game entirely rather than reskin existing models.
Hello amigos! Long time not seen...
Have we got something new by now or is the big guessing around still going on?
Nope.. No beta progress, no new news about the single player things (holding up the beta progress).
The Canadians
Why not the Mexicans?![]()
What and have a campaign set during L.Ron Hubbards attack on Mexico lol
Canadians aren't too far fetched actually, when you consider what the 1rst Canadian Army(though a multinational force despite its name, possessing a couple of US and polish units in it amongst other things) did such as, you know, the battle of the scheldt and so on. Heck, I can't recall which battle it was where they had to cross a river, but their uses of the improvised Kangaroo armored transports(as opposed to pretty much unarmored half-tracks) along with Wasp Flamethrower carriers and artillery to break through the german lines could almost be said to have been borderline epic.
Not to mention Relic is Canadian, and Canada is in both CoH and OF, in a limited way (such as the final US mission, RCA).
Kangaroos were first used around Caen pushing to close the Falaise pocket IIRC Operation Totalize. Shortly before the final US mission in CoH.
Wasps were most famously used (by Canadians at least) at the Scheldt attempting to cross a Canal (I believe the Leopold).
Although the AI can be utterly frustrating at times, I have found myself playing skirmish more than MP. Why? Well, I'm "old school" at 44yrs and am much more used to having time to consider options. I cut my gaming teeth on Afrika Korps, Tactics II and the original Squad Leader, amongst others.
Matter of fact CoH is the first RTS I have ever owned. Most others are waaay too frenetic and crazy for my tastes. I imagine that is why I cling to skirmish as I can pause, although I do try to minimize this.
I have had some fun in MP but I am kind of sitting on the fence until Relic coughs up enough info on their next release or the beta ends and retail is updated and working OK.
Here is hoping some new nations will enter the game soon- I would like to see the Russians and Italians personally.
I would love to see the Reds (Russians) and own with a T-34 or IS2, those are awsome Russian tanks in my opinion (circling a KT with a T-34 for bout 180 sec and killing it)
I would like to see anything, as long as they finally feed the community. Up till now there is only the statement from the new community-manager that there IS something going on, but actually nothing to chew on. Gimme so real stuff guys!!!
The Pacific Theater would be a great addition I think
"Ready for anything, Ready for victory!"
Yep, it seems the leopold canal is one of the place that saw heavy wasp use.
Regarding the pacific theater, though, I can't hel;p but feels it would be very hard to adapt, considering how different combat was there compared to the rest of Europe.
With most of the battles happening at sea(which sea battles simply cannot be adapted to CoH, considering the size of ships in general and the size of the chunk of "playable" terrain water for ships would take), and most of the land actions happening on islands which greatly limited the vehicular capacity of both factions, you would requires a /lot/ of heavy tweaking that'd almost require a second game to make work in the end(like a company of heroes 2 or something).
I mean, japanese fielded tankettes at most, which were pretty much glorified stuart if not even smaller, and americans didn't had that much armor either. A US marines or Japanese faction would be too much bereft of most vehicles to see really useful uses... or at least be /very/ doctrine dependent for air abilities call-in or offmap naval guns. To say the least.
I mean, even Panzer Elite, "the" faction where most of the vehicular curriculum has light armor at best, has at least a support panzer 4 and a panther battlegroup call-in.

I hope there is going a new add-on with a new German Fraction (Something from Eastgermany) and the Russians!
I would buy this game without thinking although you don't have to buy this game for playing online. ( I am online Player)
Why bring out a a new game/expansion? They really should fix al the problems first.
Although if they really would bring a new expansion out I hope they put it theatre of war in Russia or Africa. That would be really cool!
Its been almost a year since OF came out and we have yet to even hear about a possible future add-on. Untill Relic gives a title and some news about the so called "upcomming product that the top beta testers got to try" actualy comes...
Have the beta testers already played the surprise?
