Graphics mods for HW1 or Cataclysm - I just finished hw2 campaign

I just finished the HW2 campaign with the SVN graphics mod and what a lot of fun it was, it was nice and short (15 missions) with a good story, not too stressfull and great graphics/interface.

I like a lot of the features in hw1 such as the way research works and fighters run out of fuel.. and am keen to play the hw1 campaign.
What is the best way to play either cataclysm or hw1 campaign. I want the best graphics in hw1 basically. I don't remember ever finishing the hw1 campaign.

P.S. I tried cataclysm recently and the graphics and ship designs were too horrible to continue.... so heres hoping somebody knows of a good graphics mod that brings things up near hw2 graphics...

if your looking for HW1 mods, go here. this has all the currently working mods for HW1 - HW2. if there is one, you'll find it there. also, you could try here if you dont find what you want in the other link.

or you could try modding it yourself. either way, happy modding.

lol.... i don't think i'm gonna be modding hw1 anytime soon
Does not look like their is anything that does it.

I assume by looking at a couple of screenshots hw1 uses a 16bit pallete?

here is my current hw2 graphics:

removed this image to satiat the sticklers.
Be nice if the forums were updated to autoresize like most others.

    1. You need to resize your image to a smaller size as requested by the forum rules.

    2. This is not the modding forum for the Homeworld series.

you might want to pm a mod and ask if they could move this thread to the research station. sometimes i think they dont move threads on purpose just to see if us memberw will adhere to the rules.

Homeworld FX mod? never heard of it. a link would be nice. here D, this mod apparently updates graphics and some other stuff for hw 1: Homeworld Remix GFX Demo

the creator is Mr Tyranny and he has an account on these forums. ive pmed him about getting the full version of his mod, if it exists. should here from him in a day or two.

    until then, happy modding.

I've reinstalled HW too after so many years and would like to have some more polished GFX too!

The FX Mod seems to be HW2 only, otherwise i've only found a Multiplayer GFX Mod..

Has anyone actually a good Mod at hand with upgraded GFX for singleplayer?

The Multiplayer one should also work for SP too.

If you're talking higher res textures then it's a no-go because nobody wants to go there.

The problem is that Homeworld really did about the best it could with its engine. Higher res textures cause texture corruption, and there's very little room for increased poly counts on the models (if they get much higher the engine just gives up). The game is from 1999 folks, you can't really expect it to look good by today's standards.

Zaba if you compile the textures into the .ll you can have them however you like.

    Hi there,
I just digged out the HW, HWCAT disks from my closet - what a coincidence; I am, also looking for a neat graphics/texture mod.
If someone could recommend a few, it would be great - in the meantime, I check out the HW Remix linked above; too bad that it seems to be incomplete...
    Thanks.

Very, very not true. The game will only allocate a max of 32MB of texture memory. If your textures take up more than that you'll get corruption no matter how much liflisting you do. In addition, texture corruption occurs if you have too many 256x256 textures, even if you don't approach the 32MB limit (this is why you see lots of little textures in mods like SoA and SWNR rather than a few big ones).

Not true. If you unliflist the "Derelicts" mod you'll get tonnes of corruption everywhere. When liflisted it works like a charm not a single corruption.

Right, I'm not saying that liflist doesn't help (in fact you have to use liflist with anything beyond trivial mods, or you'll get corruption). What I'm saying is that it will only work so far. There is a hard limit to the amount of texture memory that Homeworld will allocate, and after that you'll get corruption no matter what you do. In fact SoA will corrupt even as released, if you have too many players in a single game (and sometimes if you don't).

I'd pay 30$ for Homeworld 1+Cataclysm with Directx10 GFX.. It might even gain the attention it deserved when beeing released..

Re-releasing games like HW or Jedi Knight with recent gfx would be something reaaally nice :-)

Will play it anyway, working gfx mod for singleplayer would have been nice tho.

    I would settle for 10$ and DX9.
But, I suppose we are going away from the original subject...

Trust me Dot, Zabaron's been here a long time, he knows what he's talking about.

and unfortunately, we're not going to see a graphics retune mod for homeworld, there's not enough attention regarding the game. if you want shiny graphics, get Homeworld 2.

Fair enough. Will have to struggle through on vanilla then.

I won't exactly call it thread necro, since you were the one who asked the question originally, but still the last reply was in October 2008. I'm assuming you've been away since then? In that case, welcome back on the site.
