I don't like quickstart. Seems to me like more of a spamming contest then real RTS gameplay. I mean, the element of strategy is not completely lost, but the fact remains that standard seems so much better to me, for some reason.
Thoughts?

I find that sometimes playing larger matchups can make QS good fun. I mean 4x4 or something like that.
You can have epic wars raging and it really can be a case of tactics meaning something, not just spamming the right squad.
But for smaller games QS, for me anyway, is no fun at all.
OMG...I have a sig. And its crap.
All hail the Cephalopod Supreme Leader!
I second large games being kinda fun for qs.
But in small games, it just sits there and rapes poor little Resource Management, and forces Strategy to watch, breaking Strategy's morale and thus it's effectiveness.
Read my Sig
Ironic that you should say that...Originally Posted by trikky

Thinking about it.......It may be good for me because I only play my friends or SP against the comps.
Not sure how it would work against people I don't know.

Thankyou, for blatantly pointing out the fact that dawn of war has been streamlined so there are two whole levels of tiers and map contestation happening before the high level overresourced spamfest that is QS.
Unfortunately, a large portion of the player base refuses to acknowledge that these parts of the game exist. Many of these people as a result were lobbying for necron buffs in DC 1.0, because of their quickstart performance. This is why there is such hatred between the QSers and the properly competitive automatchers.
Ultimately, the game has always had the balance most largely focussed on 1v1 automatch, and this should be where any competitive player addresses their criticisms.
I'm not sure whether you're pissed off at me or agreeing with me, but I assure you I had no intention to cause any discontent to any of the community, just stating my personal opinion.
I shouldn't worry - he is agreeing with you in a 'Xanthian' kind of way!
In fact not just agreeing but applauding you!!! Nice work!
PS. whs = what he said!! (See below)

^^^^ whs. I'm thanking you for examining the actual game of take and hold or capture the flag or whatever you want to call it, and playing it for the skirmisher it is, instead of turning it into total annihilation and then complaining about unit caps.
Also wanted to enlighten you as to why there's a divide. The necrons really did cause the most hostility ever seen between the quickstarters and automatchers. While simultaneously being a race blamed for ruining both.
Well, its nice to see we share the same opinion. It's just you used the word "blatantly" and....it's kinda one of my personal favorite ways to patronize someone on a foruming community ^_^
Anyway, back on the thread, I particularly don't like quick-start coupled with High resource rates. I mean, come on....whoever spams the best ranged units wins in that case like Fire Warriors or something.
Not that qs is completely bad, it just lacks the kind of planned strategy that I enjoy in a RTS game.
What you said is almosy "Noob sig worthy"!!
QS is BS and we all know it!
Being a former QS player, I can say that Std is the FAR SUPERIOR of the two games.
For a start, in std every race will be used. In QS, people just use Eldar or Tau...sometimes Orks and SM for variety. Also in QS people play the SAME goddamn maps, Valley of Khorne, Breach, Kasyr and Oasis, they refuse to play matches like take and hold, or assassin.
And yes, QS IS just a huge spam fest. There is no skill to it. Drag your mouse over the whole army and move it somewhere. The End.
not really....go play a high-level 1v1QS and you'll see how wrong you are. Tau FW mass can be very easily negated by a variety of races. Only noobs spam "Unit X" in QS in the hope that an army of "Unit X"s alone will win the game.I mean, come on....whoever spams the best ranged units wins in that case like Fire Warriors or something.
spamfests only occur when a stalemate is reached. Period.
It seems to me that this thread is just another opportunity to go mouthing off about how gay QS is. You guys really aren't too open-minded to the fact std and QS are simply two different forms of gameplay. Everything that applies in std also applies in QS although you aren't as severely punished for your mistakes early on (pre T2), given the buffer cushion of 10k/10k power and req, as you are in automatch. If you automatchers/std players think you are so much better than QSers, why is it then that notable forums members such Compeador and Troubleshooter to name but a few have actually stated that they got their asses handed to them in QS 1v1? Surely our apparent lack of tactics (other than spamming X units) would have be to our disadvantage versus you microing gods of automatch.
from the sounds of it, everyone in this thread talks like QSers don't know jacksh*t about strategy/tactics and i, for one, resent that.
i think anyone is saying that there is no tactics at all in qs, it just isn't as broad as std. i started out playing qs but thankfully soon saw the light.
qs is more about the speed you can get your buildings and techs down, rather than manipulating the enemy and what i would consider more advanced tactics.
on maps like kasyr there basically is no under t2 because of the distance you are from your enemy.

We have been through this before. It only results in a QS bash thread followed by fearvent QS supporters attempting to defend their game mode of choice.
People have the choice to play whichever mode they want.
Those who walk through the shadows, seek not the light.
