    Wooo nice to see the survival maps are still alive and kicking!

    I've got a question for you Fuggles (and its kind of a request too) If you were up for it, What would you say about making a version of the Survival maps that has an Infantry-Only mode?

    For Really big and massive all infantry battles.

    just putting it out there, if its not possible, no problem...

    V1.5 - Reinstated Ranking for Player 1 and changed how the Valkyrie and Manta bombing runs work in heroic defence. Also added Final Stand map, courtesy of IronmanII, and created icons/minimap for it.

    Valkyrie drops a succession of bombs which do more damage the bigger the building, but are unlikely to completely destroy it (the bombs are not good for the health of passing units either).

    The Manta does a lot of damage with one hit and has a good chance of destroying most buildings, but will not be too bad on the ol' HQ. Will likely kill most light infantry nearby and take chunks out of heroes and tanks.

    Both bombing runs now damage whoever is nearby, including the AI, so potential kiting ahoy. Oh, and I've also changed the annihilate of DE and SoBs so you don't have to kill EVERY building that they own.

    Let me know if it all works, any problems you have, and of course any suggestions for improvement.

    @Ragnarok - Mmm....not too keen. I would have to recode every single race to not use vehicles as well as restricting the player (that bit would be quick and easy at least). Given how few vehicles you can build I'm not sure how much gain there is - plus, it will really mess up the steel legion when that's out

    @Fuggles - Thank you so much, you have really improved this mod alot, by removing these small bugs, here and there. Now i can concentrate slaughter the "imperial loyalist scum" without focusing on building my base all the time.

    I think you can use the "infantry only" mini mod together with survival mod "proberbly", even though its for dc, so it does not work for sob and de

    I have tried "infantry only" myself with the survival mod. Just for trying.
    It just works for the ai not building vehicles, but the vehicles will be spawned in the beginning by the scripts, but in the end there will only be infantry left i think, that would make them easier to take down. cause there is only what the ai build.

    But well i only played against chaos. i dont know about the other races. . But well the inquisition can still build vehicles.

    Edit:
    I imagine it would be fun playing against imperial guard with only infantry , but when they still use vehicles, then you will get a very tough battle, so i would prefere not to use the "infantry only", you dont have much advantage, except for when you use vehicle counting units. But well, having vehicles would be better. So just play it without survival mod.

    The nids attack waves is great, specially when its balanced.(The one I made at home is Terrible)

    I noticed a few typos when I looked at the Soulstorm_Survival_Generic file.

    Playerone instead of PlayerOne

    and

    Playertwo instead of PlayerTwo

    Mostly with the third party races

    yeah, I know if that's about the wave launching code - I altered it on the other end too so that it still worked.

    EDIT - sent 1.5 to filefront as I'm going on holiday tomorrow and I can get a week's worth of feedback

    I've been really enjoying this mod except for the fact that I seem to get a "FATAL SCAR ERROR" every time things get good....

    As a 'noob', how can I bring up the console to get you the error message?

    Hello Argonaut,

    This is L0ki! (my old Relic account got thrashed and I could never get any of the admins to fix it. I finally gave up and created this account.)

    Anyways, just wanted to say thanks for all the great work (you too Fuggles! and all other survival map makers!)

    I just stumbled across this (survival 1.3) mod and couldn't believe my luck! but on my first attempt to run it I ran into a scarr error.

    I was SM with ally AI 1 as IG and ally AI 2 as SM against Dark Eldar on "Defense of Ultramar".

    @Saul/Loki - are you using a clean install of the latest version? Defence_of_Ultramar_Survival.scar should not have 5373 lines in it anymore!

    Thanks for the reply... Yes I believe it is... even though I madly love survival maps and play them often, I *just* found this thread/mod. (DOH).

    I DL'ed it from the link in the first post and installed it. I have just recently built a new gaming comp so all my apps were freshly installed less than a month ago.

    What file should I look at to see if its not correct? The actual SCAR file or some other?

    Any help would be greatly appreciated as this map is my all time fav and the prospect of being able to play against the nid swarm has me all hot and bothered (THANKS AGAIN ARGO!!)

    Hello again Fuggles....

    Yes your link is the very same one I used. So my scar error appears to be self inflicted.

    I had previously grabbed a survival map that was written by Argo for D.C. and had just copied it to my S.S. folder hoping it would work and obviously it didn't because of the SCAR changes Argo wrought with this mod.

    So two basic Questions about "Defence_of_Ultramar_Survival":

    1) Does anyone have an updated version of this map and SCAR file that would work with S.S? (This is my all-time favorite survival map and IMHO is Argo's best work!)

    2) Failing that, could anyone give me a hint as to how to get it to work with S.S. or the survival mod?

    One other question about something I've noticed about this mod....

    When I activate the "survival mod" in the game manager and I go to skirmish mode, here is what I see as maps available....




    BUT.... When I look at the files added to my HDD by the mod, I see....



    Of course what I'm wondering is why I see the ultramar map in the list of files, but not in the game.

    **NOTE** I know the path in the picture is a non standard location! I just installed the mod into a folder to see what files it was creating.

    why the map name as been changed btw ?

    a bit of info about map names displayed in the skirmish list in the skirmish menu; the name displayed is the name given in the Mission Editor in the "scenario properties--scenario name" field and not the name of the sgb/tga/scar files this means it can be complty different sometimes.

    Hello again Fuggles! BTW, thanks for all the patience.

    That isn't the map I was referrring to at all. The "real" Defence of Ultramar map was one Argo did back in 07 I think and its completely different that the Chapel Fortress one in the survival mod. It was a D.C. map.

    This one is a winter map (Like the polar regions of Macragge) and can have up to 3 palyers on it.

    My little Fuggy wuggy I'd love to try your mod but the 1.4 file no longer exists and I get a time-out trying to download 1.5 from mediafire, are there any other mirrors available and is 1.5 the latest version?

    The Old ultramar map I did is unlikely to work in the new config as it's for 3 players vs AI rather than 2 ( which is the direction I went when it converted to SS)

    3 AI attacking waves at level 7+ nearly melted my quad core and NVIDIA 9800 GFX card as there was simply too much going on - I made the decision to reduce it to 2 players vs AI to try and keep the flow of play rather than the obscenely huge attack waves.

    A small change to the code *might* make it possible to have 3 players fight the attack waves off, but there will still only be attack waves for players 1+2, with player 3 being extra reinforcements - this could make for a pretty simple match.

    As my third son has just entered the world(he's two weeks old now) it's nigh impossible for me to find time to sleep, let alone mod! It's good to see this survival mod still has some potential to move forward.

    With the renaming of the ultramar map, I had got a series of four maps ready, and I'd even got cinematics working in multiplayer - but alas time was against me and I'd never have released it so Imade the decisaion to release the most finished map, after re-jigging it to be a swamp rather than ice you now have 'chapel fortress' rather than the ultramar map.

    As a side note - DOW2 really has pushed people back towards DOW1 mods hasn't it? Is the game really that poor people are migrating away already?

    p.s. I thought up the last stand mode hehehe

    Has the necrons at the vehicle_attack.scar( the mispelling of the tombspider) been updated?
    coz I think that is where the error with the necrons attack wave came from.

    I love this mod. It's the only reason I have Soulstorm installed. I have been playing every week since last year ^^

    BTW, I found a bug. In DarkEldarAttacks.scar there's a reference to dark_eldar_squad_haemonoculus. It raises a fatal error at wave ~7.

    This is a great mod and really enjoy it, but some races are just too hard to win in heroic defense for one thing: the transports. The waves spam out wartrukks, but because of the vehicle attacks SCAR, wartrukks are almost niegh impossible to destroy (along with facon grav tanks and chimeras) because of the armor modification. Anyway to at least make it possible to harm them?

    It's been some time since I delved into this code - but I'm updating this to work for DOWII so I'll see what I can do. I'm involved with a single player campaign for DOWII as well, plus I'm really enjoying working on the Darkness Within campaign, so this isn't priority for me - don't worry I'll get round to it

    This is one excellent Mod, however I've encountered a fatal scar error twice in identicle situations, both on the same map, with the same win conditions and same races, each time it crashed without fail as soon as I hit level 10.

    Map: Flooded Tomb (Survival - 1)
    Player 1: Space Marines
    Player 2: Tyranids
    Win conditions: Annihilate, Game Timer and Take and Hold: Reinforcements

    With fixed locations, Tyranids and IDH races installed and protraction.both set to protraction.module



    From memory I had different upgrades/units in my army, so I would guess it's something to do with the spawn of the enemy wave 10?


    I'll go and play a different map now to see if the same thing happens and I'll update this post if so.


    Edit: Nope almost exactly the same, although SCAR error mentions the predator reinforcement this time...

    2nd EDIT: Tried it without the take and hold reinforcement win condition on and it still came up with the same error as in the first screenshot

    I had a problem.

    Im from Chile so im using a spanish version of DC 1.2

    I install the 1.3 survivor and then the 1.5 patch, i go to skirmish mode, choose my faction and oponent one, i had fixed start position and computer in player 2... When the game stats, appears a objetive mensaje: "$1745asdadada no range" and then after 18 seconds, the games pause alone and a scar error mensaje appears...

    I had plenty of other mods, FoK, Titanium, And others, so in dont think is a language issue... Someone can help me?

    PD: Excuse my horrible english xD!

    Okay guys, I have had a quick look at the steel legion release and not so much has been changed that survival mod 1.6 needs altering, so here is 1.6 adding steel legion to the unofficial survival mod. I haven't played DoW properly in months, so let's see what you guys think. As ever, Heroic defence is the best mode to play, it will raise a wry smile I'm sure.

    There were 3 vs AI when it was DC. The sheer amount of FX and units caused problems with framerate so I downgraded to 2 VS AI when I ported it to SoulStorm. However, now everyones PC is significantly better there's no reason why it sohouldn't be 3vsAI ....... apart from having to add approx 2000 lines of code...

    IIRC Fuggles added the ranking back in to SS, if there's rankings available you'll be told you rank as private in the opening minutes.

    To gain ranks you need to be the only human player. Playing online is much more fun, but it's not possible to gain ranks due to sync error issues. BTW, what's the highest rank anyone has got? Screenshots please...

    I've been toying with the idea of revisiting this, so suggestions are welcome, even if it's a suggestion for a mini campaign.

    Thats an easy fix the file "frontend" file or how it name was it contains the lines of all models one only needs to add the missing ones so in this case the idh lord and the broodlord can be edited with the notepad as example... I can post my file but I'm not at my gaming PC and don't have access to my Soulstorm game files. Maybe I do so later but perhaps you fixed that issue yourself already

I'm toying with the idea of trying to add achievements into the mix somehow, but if it's only me playing then I'll keep it for myself I think I'm going to release and "official-unofficial 1.7" version anyway to keep things up to date and clear in my own head - Fuggles has done so much great work I need to catch up with the status of my own mod

    [edit] if anyone wants any maps they've found added let me know before I get the newest version up.

    What do you mean by new maps - maps that would be edited to have survival mod working on them or new maps with the survival mod bits already built in?

    Oooh, intriguing. Love the Survival Maps, although it's been a while now... hardly surprising, though, considering one of my electric outlets fried 2 computers before I figured out what was going on. -.-
