    The mapmakers tutorials

It seems like the basic tutorials from Buggo is lost forever, so i have decided to make a new set explaining the basic functions.
Unfortunately my time is limited so it might take some time to finish this project, its the idea to make simple simple instructions on how to use the functions in worldbuilder, starting with how to create a new map.
I´m still trying to figure out how to do this the best way, it has to be accessable for most people, including those with a slow internet connection, so it cant be in movie format, so i considered flash or maybe a simple word or website format which can be printet as reference, any sugestions are welcome.

    Tutorials in Flash:
    creating your first map
    The spline tool
The stamp tool Unfortunately the stamp tool is broke with 2.600 But Copenicus made a fix for that, look here

    HTML version
    creating your first map

    Mini guide
How to make it snow (Flash mini guide)
How to use Action markers (thread)
How to include loadscreen into your map
You will need Flash player to watch some of the guides, get it here Flash player

Nice, the flash movie that buggo made was pretty cool, the only downside I think it had was that you couldnt read back and forth that easily. A page like this does have that advantage, just scroll up and down, simple. Upside of a flashmovie IMO is, that you can 'see' the actions being done. I guess it is up to you if you would want to make a flash tutorial, it's already handy as it is now
    Now thát's a Knight's Cross.

I may be a slow reader, though I think when there is more text on screen, can you pause it a bit longer to have a better read.

It´s still in production, a lot of things yet have to be changed, there will be more "stop" points, and some of the text will change too, it was what i had time for on a windy Sunday

Took a quick look at it, and I must admit it looks great. I'll take another look when I have more time.

Nobody, your tutorial is way more detailed than the original one on relicrank!

I think alot of people will have profit of this, and I hope they will sticky this when you finished it.

    -Cheers

Nice, I think both options, html and flash are useful; The flash shows exactly what to do, the html is useful for quick reference. Nice work

Ok, I read it, but what exactly do you mean with "and insert HQ´s for the players"

You mean assing the HQ's to players? Also, in campaign maps each map has a tiny little flag in their base, and you can't save a map when you remove them. Why?

Each team has to have an HQ, not all campaign maps (none maybe?) have an enemy HQ, the enemy is mostly scripted in and just spawns. You have to remove all those action markers etc, anything scripted, and make sure all players have an HQ and a map_entry_point.

The one thing I love about this modding community and others for that matter is, when the developers and such don't get around to adding everything we may want, here comes one of many talented people and adds even more knowledge and info to help with the modding community.

I learned a few things myself.

    Excellent work there Nobody.

Tutorials will be updated when patch 2.502 is live.

    To create a new map in 2.501;
    1# Click the "new" button.
2# In the window that opens, navigate to the "ww2/scenarios/mp" folder (if you want to make a standard mp map). Write the name you have desired for your map in "filename" and click "OK".
3# The window where you can select the size of the map now appears, and you can follow the tutorial from there.

  32. #32
i have another problem, when i get to the new scenario screen and click ok, the worldbuilder crashed

  33. #33
    Nice, Mr. Nobody.

Since I've not mapped since the SGA format worked, question:

If I distribute a map, does everyone need the SGB files or just the SGA?

Also, why does WB show like 100 errors after just creating a new map and not doing anything to it?

  34. #34
100 errors? Well if you mean you make a new map and then try to save, all the errors will be related to the map not being setup properly, you mean territory errors and building placement errors I imagine, For every new map made, certain steps are required for no errors. Make a standard open map, place 2 HQ's away from each other, then 2 map_entry points for each HQ, now assign them to player 1 and 2, put some control points on map, fuel, munition, manpower etc. Now go to Territory tab, click on calculate Veronni(I think its called that) now all the territory is sorted, You can manually go and adjust these if you like by clicking on sample, then the territory colour you want to adjust by painting, now click and save, there will be no errors , guaranteed.

Edit: For every new HQ or territory you add to an already made map, you will need to redo the Calculate Veronni thing, and then adjust manually again for your territories

Sorry if i bump this but
Can someone help me with the Spline tool?
I'd like to create an intersection, But it needs me to create 4 splines. I do those and i get 2-4 intersections, How do i get the other useless intersections removed?

you just adjust the length of the spline, as shown in the tutorial.

About to start my 1st map and was wondering are their any textures or building that can be added to world builder?

I took a screenshot from in worldbuilder, opened image in gimp, saved it as a TGA, placed it in scenarios/mp and exported the package, if i view the sga file after the picture is in there but it dont display when loading.

    Great Tuts, Nobody!!!
Especialy the splines tutorial! Thanks to you, i finaly knows that its possible to level some spline points, which was needed for me to achieve my concrete german trenchs (using the support concrete wall in spline)..

BUT (there is always a 'but' ^^) you dont talk about the possible combinations (adding for exemple a deformation for a ditch, and the ditch texture in the same spline, or model+splat for hegerows by exemple).

This is possible by switching spline mode and hit the cooresponding 'add' button to combine with your selected spline

you can use all 3 modes combined, i do that when i make railroads

Loading screens still show, people. You need to put them in the same folder as your .sgb, instead of being in a seperate loading folder. We've been doing this at OMG for ages now.

first off Nobody thanks for all your hard work of your own free time for doing these toots for us neewbies to mapping to enjoy, the only request I have is flash vids are fine I actually prefer to doc style. But is there a way you can set them up so we can pause the flash vid as were following you in the toot? Another thing that would be nice is able to fast forward or reverse a toot espesially when your looking for 1 area you might be confused first on.

Can you add a thread about adding music to a new map? I cannot find a thread that explains how or were to extract the sound files.
