anyhow, marmoo claimed to have "forgotten how to play" then proceeded to pwn me ... a slappable offence if i ever saw 1

i am now having problems getting hw Lan to launch via gameranger so i was hoping someone could help me. when i join a looby to launch the game i get a message telling me i have a 'cone restricted modem'. Krakken and Dunky said they got the same message and just click continue but when i join or launch a game on HW Lan via gameranger it kicks me back to gameranger. I think it is because the port which gameranger uses is currently being blocked by my CPU. My windows fiewall is off but it may be my Mcaffee Internet security which is blocking this port. I am not going to switch off mcaffee but what port does GR use so i can perhaps isolate this problem, get my internernet security to allow this exception and get playing...i know it is me cos when dunky and krak launched on their own the game loaded.

yeah that happened to me too Marmoo but it turned out I needed to put my HW Cd in. You didn't seem to have any problems connecting to me when I launched. I suggest that you try to host and see what happens

On another note... playing homeworld using gameranger may have a slight technical glitch.. i found when i was assigning delta formation to my scouts... i recieved an audio message from GR.... something to do with mics so apparently F5 is voicechat for silver and gold accounts ... However this is a minor detail since playing on GR is so reasonably easy..

yeah i found out you can change the mic settings in options so no biggy.

On another note, Rusty joined one of our games just as marmoo launched but we didn't see him in lobby. M8 we couldn't find ya. You are most definitely welcome to have a game with us, the more the merrier

you can play HW online with a bronze account cold... but you dont have other features like voicechat and avatars, setting up lobbies etc

I ran into osgier and he told me about that 3v3 monk ... sounds like a good game.
The most we have had so far is 5 players for a good ffa. however, 2v2's have been most frequent, especially on the weekends.

I wonder how this will work with dial-up...And how badly I'm going to get owned if it works well, lol.

EDIT: Having some trouble, might be on my end. I'm hosting a Homeworld 1 game right now, I'll keep it open for about thirty minutes if anyone wants to join. It's really just to see if I'm able to use this client or not with dial-up.

Well , my first experience with GR was generally good except one thing, never got to play. I've submitted an error through GR support but i doubt they'll get back to me anytime soon.

my problem is this,

when i host a game, i start the game.. it replies wit <<failed to start game>>

same if i try to join, but this time it would say , <<waiting for host>>

then same error

idk if its a connection problem or a game, the game works perfectly, idk what the prob maybe.

I rely on my contact list and when a friend comes online GR notifies you.
If you see a game, please join as it is most likely someone familiar, at least to me, then you can start a contact list and before you know it, you will be playing homeworld regularly.

Well we had to wait a while but we successfully launched osgier into the homeworld LAN lobby. He was running 28K due to his isolation and he saved my bacon against krakenn and Postal|OMO. I suggest letting someone else host a room if you are on dial-up. As long as the other players are patient and just wait in the LAN lobby for 5 minutes you be able to join them. How badly are you going to get owned? I heard that before ... then got owned myself *looks at marmoo* Hmm .. i think im gonna slap marmoo again

Just push control F, the "Find User"applet appears, select nickname then copy and paste gravi†y into the box.. you have to copy and paste from here because of the † in my name. If you see one of my games up, dont hesitate to join. If the room is locked the password will be "toot".

Anyone know how to keep your friend list from popping up everytime you open the client? And how to keep it from being over off the edge of screen? It's very annoying to have to hit 'maximize' to move the damn thing to where I can actually look at it.

Ok new problem!!

I got GameRanger to work, idk what i did but it started HW and everything works fine.

then maybe two minutes into the game, it gets all funky and says ppl are timing out. Sure could just be the person i was versing.

but when i aborted i was trying to log me back into GR and said it couldnt connect. I had to repair my internet connection 4 it to work again.

Then i was hosting a game waiting 4 ppl and i tried to close it and it started to try and logg me back into GR. Couldnt , i had to restart my computer for packets to be received.

Now im pissed, GR messing wit my connection so i open up COD4 modern warfare and start playing online... no problems for an hour of playing.

i have no idea how GR is stopping my packets being received.

could it be a firewall problem? Thats what it sounds like to me. Other than that disable any other network adapters your not using.

Oh and stingra for some reason it doest let me add you. your all greyed out man.

Make sure you're not running mods. That tripped Elukka and I up during early playtests.

so now i have a new problem...

i goto "edit->Options" to select the program that GR should use to play homeworld, goto the homeworld.exe and select it, and it says:

Invalid Selection

Please choose the game application for "Homeworld".

Kapyrna, makes sense, didnt think of that. Also it was brought to my attention that the interenet provider was being a little flakie wit the service so i had little drops that would kick me off. SO maybe its both... clearing out the mods now. hope it works lol

i know from experience that running no mods, using TCP/IP Lan, having no firewall on and using Broadband that from time to time GR will just not launch HW or connect me in the same LAN lobby as other players, then 3 hours later it works fine...i think some of the teething problems MAY be the program itself and how our CPU's connect with it and each other but i am no Bill Gates...perhaps it is the work of the devil...damn him and all his little friends

Can anyone explain me step by step what I must do to be able to play HW online?

EDIT: Downloaded GameRanger, but when I try to run it an error apears:

GameRanger requires Adobe Flash Player to be installed

I have the Adobe Flash Player installed.

Any help?

trying going to the adobe flash site and downloading the latest player. It cant hurt.. unless u did it already then try reinstalling GR

i had the same problem with flashplayer about 4 months ago when it insisted i downloaded an update from it's official site automatically and then 'Youtube' came up with the message saying i was not running flash player - it maybe the same problem. i read up on the internet how to sort the problem and it gave me 2 choices - either fiddle around with 'active scripts' etc or delete my version from my CPU and then download it again but NOT from the official site. I opted for the latter as i know bugger all about CPU's and that worked for me.

Have a look online but sometimes you have to completely uninstall the older version of Adobe Flash Player before installing the newer updated version.

Choice is yours on how to fix the problem but before you take my advice, check online or maybe contact GR to see what they say

It seems that I really have 2 Adobe Flash now...that might be the problem. Going to uninstall all Adobe flash before installing it again. Will try that.

EDIT: Problem solved. Not from what you told me to do, but from what you say you did. Serched fro online help, went to google and typed "Gameranger problem Adobe".

Was a simple thing. Instead downloading Adobe Flash with Firefox, downloaded with IE. And everything ran smothly.

Yeah I had the same problem myself with some other players... its not good when you miss a launch.
Foggy got his system up and running so I must have spent quite a few hours playing that day marmoo. Mind you foggy and I caught up on some lost time.

If it hosts HW2 I may try setting up a game at some point this week, but I have horrible connection so everyone should beware my potential for lag .

After a complete thumping by Foggy(gg m8) a few weeks ago I sulked in a world of Halo online to lick my wounds

Of course I have not swotted up on HW and expect to get thumped by everyone i play but hey!

Hey how do you set it up so you can host modded versions of homeworld 2?? The mods are instigated from the shortcut, (in my case) with -overridebigfile etc etc.....

I think what you'd have to do, this is something i came up in the shower, is create another HW directory and in GR there is a way to select were it start the game from, but only the HW.exe start up w.e.

so you'd have to rename the mod .big file to what ever the basic hw .big file name is. Basically tricking GR.
