This will make an appearance on one of the maps we are working on.

Hi fans! The days are shorter, the trees are bare, and the snow is almost here. You know what that means; it's that time of the year again! That's right, it's Mod of the Year time! For those of you who are new, Mod of the Year is a site-wide competition on ModDB where fans can vote for their favorite mods to find out which mod is the best on ModDB. This a great honor for all mods out there, so you can expect the competition to be intense.

The next 11 days are going to be intense, where starting on the 1st and ending on the 10th, all visitors to ModDB can vote for their favorite mods. If you think we've earned your vote, let us know by casting your ballot with ZombieMod on it!

Last year, ZombieMod did very well through the support of you guys, our beloved fans. We were shy of the last round, but this year, we hope to do much better, because we've done so much this year. Don't believe us? Have a look through the pictures and videos from this year. We think you'll be impressed. This year we've accomplished huge goals, such as the integration of our own custom M1151 HMMWV and M1126 Stryker models, many new weapons, several new skins, the completion of the 3 survivor doctrines and planning of the Zombie doctrines, the creation of an infection system, the ability to crew abandoned vehicles, and much more.

As usual, we'd like to thank you for your dedication, and we can't wait to show you more of the mod. So, these next 11 days, we're going to post pictures of the survivor faction for your enjoyment, and so that you can see what we're up to. We think that some of the content will amaze you.

So tell everyone you know about ZombieMod and how to vote! While you're add it, be sure to support the other upcoming Company of Heroes mods, such as Modern Combat, Pacific Thunder, The Great War 1918, Eastern Front, and Imperial Reign (I promise you it's not dead). Please vote for these great mods!

That looks like my high school field Big schools and hospitals are always evacuation centers so this needs to be overrun and have a lot of FEMA, military, equipment laying around.

Any chance you guys could just release a current beta of the mod? Maybe I dream to big but it never hurts to ask.

    P.S. just voted

Thanks to you, beloved fans, guests, and fellow modders, ZombieMod has found its place in the Top 100 upcoming mods! That's certainly something that we are proud of, but we feel that ZombieMod has a place in the top 5.

As phase 2 of the Mod of the Year voting begins, we here at ZombieMod encourage you to think back on how our mod has progressed, how we've responded to the your questions, requests, and comments, and the recent wave of progress we've made. We hope that you'll find that ZombieMod is a unique mod worthy of the honor of Mod of the Year.

Of course, you can vote for as many mods as you want in the top 100, so we're hoping that ZombieMod is on your list.

    some suggestion

1 what about survivors being able to scavange food and supplies from building like markets or homes too
can you do something like this. wheb a squad enters a building you can press this ability "search for supplies" or something like this .then for 30 secont(an example) the squad will be immobilized in the building (cannt fire at least some member of the squad).after the time they have a change to get a supplie based on the bulding they are and luck of course

2 what about a terrorist corporation like umbrella in the res universe

i dont understand something. wont the survivor faction be too strong.the zombies are slow and fight only with hand to hand weapons .survivors have weapons . in zombie games like RE the reason humans have such a hard time is
1 too many zombies(for every survivor they were 100 zombies maybe more) something that cannot happen in the game( too many lag)
2 rarity in ammunition. in coh game every soldier has infinitive amount of bullets something that will make the game too easy for the survivors.in reality ammunition was rare and you had to scavenge in order to find more

    @bill

Have no fear, the survivors are certainly not as strong as you might think they are. Not only are most of them inexperienced with firearms, they often have a hard time keeping themselves out of trouble. On the other hand, zombies come with a variety of strain mutations that make them a formidable force against the living.

There will not be any other factions other than the survivors and the zombies. Period. To get it to work properly, it would require a system with three teams so that the survivors would go against zombies and the terrorists, the zombies would go against the survivors and the terrorists, and the terrorists would go against the survivors and zombies. Know what I'm saying?

Zombies will not have to simply rely on numbers to win, in fact that would not benefit them.

Since the survivors are supported by the military AND international relief agencies, they have plenty of supplies, so don't you worry about that. Although, we do have a building system in mind that will be quite interesting.

    Update inbound sometime this weekend

    thanks for the answer
"Since the survivors are supported by the military AND international relief agencies, they have plenty of supplies, so don't you worry about that"
to be honest thats something that i would nt like .because as i have said the reason is in movies like this ammunition is rare something that in game it isnt. nevertheless we will see in the game how it turns out =)

-what about my suggestion 1 in my previous post.
    - sugestion2. can you make the weapons of infantry units use ammunition

Bill, Have you ever read WWZ? Im my opinion the mod is going to be more like it, unlike the thousand of zombie films out there which focus on isolated and outnumbered survivors, this WWZ (and hopefully the mod) is going to instead focus on the bigger picture, you aren't fighting the zombies with 2 or 3 survivors over a house, you are a Commander fighting against the undead hordes over entire maps, which I think is better, the whole 'survive and scavenge for food' thing is in my opinion, done to death.

For those who have not read it, I suggest you do, makes for a very good read.

"to be honest thats something that i would nt like .because as i have said the reason is in movies like this ammunition is rare something that in game it isnt."

It was the choice of the mod team to develop the mod in this manner. I'm sorry that you don't like it, but to be honest there are very few zombie related games/books/movies/shows that take a similar approach to ZM, so our choice stands.

"what about my suggestion 1 in my previous post."

    Most likely no.

great update. one question why someone would chose the civilian or the police specilized infantry when they can build military units

  24. #2774
@bill2505 Because military units are probably smaller and a lot more expensive with higher upkeep. So they're powerful, but in small quantities. Survivors will probably have a fair bit more units on the ground at any given time, so it's easier to control large territories. In the end it's all about your play style. Whether you like playing defensively over a large area with a lot of units everywhere, or offensively with hit and run attacks with small but powerful units.

    That would be my explanation...
"SHIT!" "Watch your language soldier!" "It's not language! It's shit! Literally..."
Life's a bitch... and then you die... so deal with it! Any questions?
"I went outside once... the graphics were alright, but the gameplay sucked!"

Each of the upgrades lend themselves to different strengths and weaknesses. For example, the civilians are the cheapest by far, but are also probably the weakest. On the other hand, the national guard units are very good at what they do, but are expensive.

I get it, it will probably also make things 10 times harder say, if you stick to Military and Swat units.... if you get trapped a lose a few squads, that may cost you the game, or at the very least a lot of ground

    Greetings Fans!

It's February (already!?) and we here at ZombieMod are excited to present to you what we think a bunch of you are going to love. While we've been working on finishing up other areas, we decided that only four supporting countries was a little boring. Besides, if the US was overrun with zombies, I think more than four countries would show up. So, we went back, and added a few more. Plus, we've revamped some of the old ones.

The ZM team presents to you...Foreign Infantry 2.0

First, we asked our friends down under for some support. Now, some units of the SASR, Australia's finest, are here to help.

While they might not deal with snow much, they are just as combat ready as ever. Armed with the M4 SOPMOD, they can effectively eliminate targets.

Next, some units from the United Kingdom have come to help. Sections from the British Royal Marines are on standby to support.

Armed with the L85, they are able to take out targets quickly and accurately.

Next on the list are our neighbors to the north, the Canadians. They are sending members of the Canadian Special Forces to help us out.

They too are armed with the M4 SOPMOD and are used to the cold, making them efficient in the winter environment.

Next we have new comers to the fight. The French are sending their Commandos Marine to help in us out.

They carry the FAMAS, a reliable and accurate assault rifle, making them able to take out targets quickly at a close range.

Our next guests come from Germany. Representing the Deutsches Heer is the KSK section. The Kommando Spezialkräfte are the elite of Germany's elite and can deal with most threats alone.

Armed with the G36 and one UMP45, they can eliminate targets at most ranges swiftly and efficiently.

Also new to the fight, Japan has sent some infantry to help. These members of the Japanese Ground Self-Defense Force, or JGSDF, are ready to go.

Carrying the Howa Type 89, they are able to eliminate targets reliably. They can hold their own in most situations as well.

Lastly, our dear friends, the Russian Federation (no hard feelings for the Cold War, right?) are back to help us out. Falling from the skies are the VDV Paratroopers. Short for Vozdushno-Desantnye Voiska, the VDV are elite paratroopers that can handle almost any combat situation.

They carry the AK74m, a member of the Kalishnikov family, meaning they are reliable and deadly.

More pictures available on the ModDB site! We hope you have enjoyed this update, and we look forwards to sharing more with you!

Hello fans! We hope you've been enjoying the newest Company of Heroes mod, Modern Combat! We certainly have! If you haven't tried it yet, we recommend you give it a shot, as it is truly a revolutionary mod!

Anyways, we've been making slow progress this month due to a couple of setbacks, including our host site being unavailable for some time and Modern Combat being released! However, we have been working on some cool stuff to show you guys, and we have a plan for the rest of development for ZombieMod.

So without further ado, here's the March update!

First, we'd like to show you something we always wanted to see in the mod: more realism with the survivors. By that, I mean that it's no longer just the white army men from regular Company of Heroes, but people of several races. We also have added glasses which will randomly show up, as not everyone has perfect vision. In the future we will be adding more variations so that the mod is truly unique.

We've also taken a break from focusing on coding and have been working on environmental assets. Since ZombieMod takes place in the Midwest United States, we realized the need for modern farm equipment, highway props, and several other important assets. So, we've been working on that as well.

Check the image section at ModDB more images! http://www.moddb.com/mods/zombie-mod...s-modification We hope that this update has rekindled your interest in the mod! We look forwards to presenting some more very soon!

Have you considered throwing in American federal agencies?

    Maybe FEMA/FBI/US Marshals/ATF

Obviously not all of them, it just seems that, besides the military there is nothing federal... I'm not an american, but don't they usually call in federal law enforcement and other agencies (like FEMA) to help out with major incidents (I know nothing about the zombie universe - sounds cool though).

Personally, I think shotgun armed US Marshals would be pretty cool!

    Or perhaps a sheriff?

Also, is there any chance that european reinforcements could be deployed by helicopter?

    NH-90 looks awesome!

I have considered it, but I don't think there is a way to work them in as ZombieMod stands right now. Our current law enforcement line up includes generic police squads, a police chief, and the swat team. We may reconsider however.

I don't think that for final release the foreign reinforcements will come by helicopter, as we would like to get the critical elements done before we can work on more eye candy. However, that's not a no

Update sometime this weekend I think.

    June Update!

    Fans!

It is finally summer! Hooray! That means finals are over and we here at the ZM team can get back to work on the mod. We have a lot to share this update, so let's get started, shall we?

To begin, we'd like to show you something we're really excited about here at ZM. Remember that old, unanimated M1A2 Abrams? Well, it's working now...well, sort of. The Abrams is mostly animated, with only the top machine gun, a .50 caliber, remaining.

    Spoiler

This beast was animated by Darkbladecr from Modern Combat and adjusted by our own sirpsycho. You may notice that the tracks are too shiny, a bug that we are working on fixing and will be gone before release.

Now you're probably wondering how the Abrams could possibly be fair? It's a rolling monster that seems to be impenetrable to just about anything. Allow us to explain how it works. You see, one of our new ideas is this little thing called "End-Game abilities" which are used during the end-game phase of any match. Once the survivors have eliminated all zombie units and reduced their territory to just their base, they will have access to one of three doctrine related abilities to destroy the hq and remove the zombies permanently. These abilities are the M1A2 Abrams call in, a "Clean Up" Squad call in, and a JDAM strike. More on this in the next update.

The next area we've worked on is the survivors, especially their weapons and appearance. They've always seemed a little incomplete to us here at the ZM team, so we've went back and done some work to them. The first thing we did was to make a new model for the survivors that is more average-Joe in appearance.

    Spoiler

Now in our opinion, the survivors now look like they were swept up in the chaos, issued what they needed, and told to survive. Which is exactly what we want them to look like. To make this go even further, we've made some new weapons to replace the old ones that seemed too militaristic for us. The survivor squad now has a loadout of 4 pistols. That means one survivor is unarmed until you choose an upgrade for them. These upgrades now give either 2 R870 shotguns and a double barreled shotgun OR an m240b and 2 AK47s depending on which you choose.

Beyond the survivors, we have also redone the weapons that the Hunter squad receives. Now, they have 3 brand new hunting rifles and a fully functioning crossbow. The crossbow is a quiet and accurate weapon that is only given to the squad leader. As of right now, it does not have animations for the cable or the arrow leaving, but we may add them later.

    Spoiler

Next, we wanted to redo their healing ability, because it seemed weird to us that a bunch civilians who used to drive to work everyday and have a normal job would know how to perform life saving first aid while fighting. So, we've invented a new system that works something like this. Your civilian units (so everything minus military, international, and police units) will be issued a small emergency first aid kit, which can be used once on the battlefield before you have to return to HQ to get another one. However, you can have your squad build a campsite, including several tents and a campfire, where they can heal. In exchange for being unable to fight while they are in the site, they will heal significantly and be better ready to take on the enemy. Once they are done, they can leave the campsite standing, or take it down like in Modern Combat.

    Spoiler

We have plenty more work to do in the future, but we are excited to keep working and to show you more. Happy hunting!

    - the ZM Team

  48. #2798
Will the civilians still move about like soldiers? Or run and shoot like untrained, poorly diciplined civilians?

I was surprised to see the civilians being able to be upgraded with the M240b.

That weapon is extremely heavy even for a fully trained soldier to carry around. An M240 is just the US designation for an FN MAG. It is a general purpose machine gun - not a light machine gun.

Perhaps the M249 would be a better choice?

I love the tents! What is at there base though? Looks like they have pitched them on buried crates.

    Cool models!

    Overall just super cool!

I'm not sure what you mean by "moving like soldiers" - they have been fighting for months (at least), so they aren't totally inexperienced. However you are correct, they are less accurate than their military and police counterparts.

The m240b is up for discussion, mostly because at the time it was put into the squad we didn't have a SAW ready to go (you'll also notice they use the AK74m from the VDV paratroopers rather than the AK47s that they are supposed to use).

    Thanks for your compliments

Looking good, although I must say I think the heavy machine guns and other 'heavy hitter' weapons should be reserved for the Military units, survivors should have pistols, shotguns, maybe the odd AK47 if they are very lucky.

Looking good though, how is the zombie side coming along?
