[MRIT Mod] Vanguard (working title) -- [2009/01/09] v0.1.1 released!

    Vanguard

Vanguard is for now just a mini-mod. It started as a project for fun when I went on vacation had forgotten to bring my LUAs for the other projects I was working on (Death Korps of Krieg and SplinterfleetMOD... and yes, I'm a nerd that brings LUAs for vacation ).

The concept is rather simple. A feel of Dawn of War II within Soulstorm. There are of course a ton of features that can't be replicated within the now antiquated Dawn of War - Soulstorm engine, but there are probably equally many features that can be replicated.

So, I present you with a quick "straight-off-my-head" changelog, known bugs, and a download.

Do note that the current release is to be considered nothing more than a proof of concept. It is in no way a complete work.

    * Predators and Dreadnoughts can now be built. They no longer use Vehicle cap, but use Unit cap instead.
    * Rhinos now costs Unit cap too.
    * Sergeants are now possible to build.
    * Assault Squads are now able to melee leap.
    * Two abilities added to the Force Commander ("For the Emperor" and "Orbital Bombardment").

    Known issues
    * Trying tutorial will fuck up the game.
    * Support for some win conditions are not present.
    * Weapons and some abilities have impossible requirements as you can no longer build or attain the pre-requisites.
    * Even after a unit has dies, and has also been removed from the Unit cap pool, it may still take an extra second or two to redeem the Unit cap.

For the time being I have decided, as you can see from the disclaimer, to not allow further modification of this mod. I do intend to allow for modification, and supply source files where reasonable once this mod is in a fair state, but not while its in the early, unstable state that it is now.

Im always think SM in DoW are little bit to weak...with choke hold on insane AI you can score 1000 SM kills. Its all chapter o,O.
But any chance to DC release to? My SS is broken...
I ask because im think about somethings like this for long time and today you just drop mod from heaven...coincidence?
Its weird because many people want mod like this but nobody make it so far and your idea is brilliant! Ba! You make mod already!

/me uses his telepathic skills to unveil that Lleman has no underpants.

Jokes aside, I do believe it's just a coincidence.

DC version? Not likely, at least not anytime soon. This initial release has, as I stated, only Space Marines. It is practically just a proof of concept, a piece of modding that hasn't even reached alpha stage.

So, the plan will be to put this mod in a fairly stable state before considering whether or not a DC version should be done.

All this said, please do give me your impressions after play (just remember that this is pre-alpha material), and if you find any bugs and issues apart from those listed, I'm all ears.

The Predator, unfortunately, can't be built, as it's still in Vehicle, cap, and as you don't have Vehicle Cap (0), it can't be built.

Also, I think Heroes would be a perfect addition to this Mod.

Added to known issues list. I'll try to get a little update to adress show-stopping bugs soon.

As for Heroes, that is possible. It would be nice to add levelling and such, but I'll have to study Heroes more in detail to see if it would actually work out the way I'd like it to.

I've uploaded an updated version today. Should fix a couple of bugs. I'd release it earlier if it hadn't been for all the problems getting the Unit cap working properly.

Do note though, it's quite primitive yet. Full of things that could use improvement. However, any feedback is greatly appreciated, as there's probably things I haven't noticed too.

Working on some of the more advanced functions at the moment, which is why I haven't brought out another update yet.

To give at least a little update, I'll give you the plans for the next version. Do note though, these are plans and not necesarily what will feature in the next version. It all depends on whether I pull it off as planned or not.

    * Shortcut icon to select HQ without losing your current battlefield position (ref: topic describing the problems with doing this).
    * Global abilities (the Dark Eldar global abilities panel is hardcoded, so I'm working on getting my alternative code up and running).
    * Suppression (this will replace morale, but requires some hefty work).
    * Taskbar extensions (hopefully I can get some of my planned changes to improve the taskbar working, although there is a fair chance that this one won't make the next version).

EDIT: Oh, I forgot, I had two more things planned.

    * Commander selection (Commander choices similar to that of DoW2, choose from the Force Commander, Librarian or Chaplain, and possibly the Apothecary too).
    * Generators shift hands (upon loss of strategic locations, Generators around that point will be given to the enemy).
