Did the CoH beta have very limited options as well?

Did the CoH beta have very limited options as well?

I'm quite disappointed by the amount of options in the menu screen of DoW 2. Can't seem to find the settings to change sound surround (mainly when I want to switch to headset rather than 5.1 at times when using mic) among others.

Was the CoH beta as limited in this regard, or is it likely it will stick for release?

Or hopefully option c) did I just overlook all those options?

I'm assuming the surround settings follow Windows'. Most newer games are doing this now.

Make sure you're accessing the options from the menu screen. The in-game one has a lot less options.

Bugger, switching sound surround in Windows messes with all running applications that use sound. Ah well.

I'll try out the menu screen one, thanks.

In my very limited experience, this sort is usually handled by the sound software in the control panel.

If you want to change your audio device or your speaker settings you must do so either through your own sound card driver control panel or your OS control panel. If you are connected to your surround speakers via SPDIF through an amplifier that handles pro logic, you can set the speaker output in game to prologic.

It is, but it has its disadvantages - it will interrupt sound for some running applications until they're restarted. I guess I got too used to TF2/L4D where I can change the output from within the game (and different sound profile settings per output).

Anti-aliasing is back to being "On" or "Off" as well, and either DX10 is not enabled, it's automatically enabled depending on your settings even though shaders only go up to high (doubtful), or it's forced on (also doubtful).

It almost seems like the game is running on the original CoH engine as opposed to the updated OF one.

    More importantly....

Idiot question: where exactly are graphics settings, so I can turn down the graphics settings? My current system is a 2 1/2 year old notebook, so I'm not exactly fulfilling recommended system reqs.

*edit* never mind, I'm an idiot.

The problem with letting you select OS and game speaker settings separately is that you could set your game to be 5.1 but have your OS speaker setting to be stereo, AFAIK on Vista mismatches this way means the Vista audio stack will only output LR (or maybe it downmixes?). The current version of the audio engine we're using does not support mismatches, but future updates may allow you to select speaker numbers lower than your OS in the options screen.

The other thing you can do if you wanted to have the game to only output stereo is to select ProLogic from the speaker settings in game, this will output a ProLogic signal that's backwards compatible with stereo.

As for switching audio devices on the fly, gfwl supports letting you select which audio device to do input/output for voice chat, the game currently only makes use of your OS default device. The game does handle device switching while running (for example, if you plugged in a USB headset which automatically sets itself as the default audio device), but there are potential problems such as your original speaker setup was 5.1 and that's what the game's audio engine was initialized to output, suddenly you plug in a stereo headset and now you're only hearing LR.

I actually have a JVC SU-DH1 box that converts Dolby ProLogic 5.1 and DTS 5.1 signals into Dolby Headphone signals with positional audio. I've mainly used it with consoles, so thanks for including the prologic output mode in this game as I can finally get some good use out of it with my PC.

I'll check it out. Thanks for the response, Mac Bug
