    Developer Fight!!!!!

This movie features a complete 3v3 multiplayer game, narrated my Relic’s own Clint Tasker, who may not by the Master of the Universe, but he’s a pretty good. Clint describes the strategy and tactics that go on from start to finish in this 20 minute game that features Orks vs Eldar. There is a 720p high-res version available as well that weighs in at 675MB if you want to view the battle in all its glory.
    Original post

    Link to the Hi-res version.

There probably isn't much discussion value in this but I know most people would be interested in seeing the devs battle it out, complete with commentary.

  2. #2
Strange, there isnt any low res version to download.

600MB is a pretty big file for me.

  3. #3
Liked this vid a lot, pointed out quite a few elements of strategy that the whiners should watch.

  4. #4
The vid is great. I've heard comments about how shallow the game seems to be but I'm not seeing that.

PS: In the actual game do people units speed up like that when they're on stairs?

  5. #5
people just need to learn how to play

great battle. I love it when the tide can just switch instantly like that (well the eldar didn't go down easy).

seems like the 'd cannons' are pretty sweet too. Effective against vehicles and infantry it seems.

  7. #7
lol that commentator was so "white" xD.. But great job none the less. Game is different.. very different.. Will take some getting used to.. Impressive non-the-less ^^

Hope to see more soon, maybe with a little more spirited replay xD? Doesn't have to be tho xP

  8. #8
The Eldar units seem weaker, but looks like those special abilities of theirs and their mobility make up for their weaknesses.

  9. #9
That developer has APM of 30-40. Hardly much skill comes into it

  10. #10
hmm people are so into the whole beta thing they don't watch this and the "zomg no screen shaking" complains contunie :P

  11. #11
Indeed, this video actually shows the game in a different manner than you can read on forums where four out of five persons are just complain and having unrealistic demands instead of giving usefull feedback and possible fixes for flaws that would actually go along with the game.

    It shows:
    -camera shake
-constant fighting (opposed to constant chasing)
-good and bad ability use and how it turns battles
    -epic battles

If thats what I get in 3vs3 then hell I'll just play 3vs3. People should climb down from their egos and finally accept team play.

    1. Watch this vid.
    2. Realize that this shit is INTENSE man.
    3. Quit complainin' about the game.
    4. ?????????
    5. Profit!

Seriously thou, this video is kind of a bitchslap to all those guys whining that the game comes down to chase 'n run, and such, those guys are CONSTANTLY fighting and its because they all know how to play the damn game, and have a serious approach instead of just goofin' around.

Great watch, it was worth the wait (and I had to wait for like 4 damn hours downloading this HUGE ASS file ;p)
Thanks for the effort anyway, wish more developers were like this

True enough in 3v3 - not the case in 1v1. That is largely where this complaint is coming from.

After this video, I got more eager to fight.
    Here we go again!

PS. Shouldn't we link it to the beta forum too?

It's not how many clicks you make, it's how you use them

Plus I wasn't allowed to use hotkeys so you guys could see what I was doing.

I'm pretty sure that was one of the initial aims of this game - they're probably not stressing it so much now because they realise they have a pretty large single player base, but I remember earlier dev topics here talking about how they wanted the game to promote more co-op play as opposed to direct competition between every single player- meaning that all the less 'committed' players don't immediately get stomped by someone more experienced with the game..

i thought initially it seemed strange they only released the beta with two 1v1 maps, but it now all makes sense to me... :P

The video has made me think a lot about the game. I'm quite a defencive player, even in a game like DoW 1 I was moderately successful as a 'camper'.

DoW2 is so refreshing. In DoW1 they tried to make you focus on attacking, but there were shortfalls. But in DoW2 you really do NEED to move forward fast and stay up there too. I can't wait to try it out myself

BTW, anyone noticed how the 'tickets' system in DoW2 is a rip from Battlefield?

  18. #18
    some pretty cool things
(like the d-cannon black hole, using the new GW minis for the models)

but on the whole extremley dissapointing

looks more like a cartoon 40k

I really don't understand why some very good options from COH like frtont-side -rear damage (which was a feature of GROUND CONTROL 7 years ago!!!!) or permanent wrecks of vehicles were left out

and there is no dismemberment (something of which the 40k lore is full of) which if I remember well was in COH

I would have really liked to see a deff-dread chop a guardian in two and throw the two half in different directions-

along with the silly and unfluffy doctrines this kind of ruins the last ounce of hope I had for this game

    it's like a downgraded dow1 with a better engine

at least the voice acting sounded good

of course I will play it because it's 40k , but for the real fun i'll stick to dow1 mods

Not sure about dismemberment, but I've seen a heavy bolter rip a marine to shreds once.

Grave Dancer - I agree. They did say their focus was 3v3. In DoW1 the focus seemed to be much more around 1v1, which made for great 1v1 games but horribly imbalanced 3v3 games. It's a tradeoff I guess - some people will be disappointed, some people will be very happy.

There is rear damage on vehicles and I've been told that destroyed vehicles will leave husks on the battlefield by way of a patch.

Also as someone mentioned there is some rather gruesome deaths which do include body parts being flung everywhere.

I will say this, the game is something that will take veteran DoW players time to get used to. In many ways though this has some elements similar to TT that weren't found or fully explored in DoW1. CoH players should have an easier time adapting but even then there is a bit of a learning curve.

It's taken me up until this point to finally come around to this game. Yesterday and this morning I went from being disappointed to on the fence to actually loving every minute of it. There are some definite balance issues of course and it is debatable whether or not it sticks to the source material well. However for a game in the 40k universe you can certainly do a lot worse.

I'm not surprised by the outrcry form the veteran players. This is a huge departure from the original and some people may never accept the changes that were made. For myself, well now that I "get it" I will be anxiously awaiting my pre-order rather than canceling it. To each their own

    Cheers,

Why does the game force you to play 3v3 to have a good time?

who says force? more of an encouragement. its a different game with different objectives, what's so hard to understand?

spartan-x: When you say stuff like how DoW2 doesn't have rear armor damage when it does and has been talked about frequently before, somehow I'm not feeling faithful in your opinion.

Looks great, but all the bars and icons over the units breaks my immersion. There's just too many of them!

Bah, he was intentionally trying not to use hotkeys so that the game wouldn't be jarring to watch and we could follow it. He's a very good player even though I tease him for losing our internal tournament.

That didn't look too bad, like CoH but less of an armoured camp on both sides of the objectives.

The abilities seemed to mix it up a fair bit, and the two sides weren't samey and they didn't play samey.

That one high pitched orc voice though irritated my eardrums, I almost wanted the emperor's peace just to escape it.

See, now this is the sort of thing I wish we had been seeing for the last couple of months.

A word of advice, though; rather than having one of the players in-game commentate it would be wiser to have an observer (or, even better, narrating a replay) so that you can create a more structured/less meandering dialogue. As it stands, it seemed that Clint was distracted trying to create an interesting narrative while playing simultaneously.

I'd offer to help but I'm afraid I don't even have the beta yet.

    Just sayin'

I had the impression he narrated on the replay. He says things like "But this will be a bad decision" etc.

it was a good vid and probably showcase some strats. if he decides to harrass you, move up to the base and take the fight to his territory.

I just watched this video and this video may have changed my mind on this game. I believe I was thinking this game should be more like CoH and my opinion kept me from enjoying this "NEW" game from Relic.

In the morning I shall enjoy a good ol' game of 3vs3!

    Great Video!!

  35. #35
Awesome battle and fun video, but I guess I now know how DoWII ended up with such a crappy camera compared to DoW/CoH. It's because the playtesters never touch the ALT key!

If I wanted to watch little bugs run around, I'd play Starcraft.

I'm having a blast with the beta, though. It grows on you! It's fast, action-packed, and there's nothing to distract you from the carnage. Awesome!

Still, the new limited camera is a mistake with a capital "M". Slap whoever's idea that was and change it back. ^_^

Just a question -- and this may be newbish of me -- how is the developer moving the camera without moving his mouse to the side of the screen? Are there keys that I don't know about, or is he using a special input device?

    Thanks!

I'd imagine the arrow keys pan the screen like a lot of other games.

    Edit: Curse you, GRLSOV.

As for the video, great work guys. You're constantly pushing me towards purchasing this game.

Seems so simple, I didn't even think of it. But my hands are hovering around other hot keys, and he's moving his hands to the arrow keys in the middle of all that?

Must take practice. Thanks for the quick reply!

Based on community feedback we've tuned the camera to allow closer zooming for 0-day.

Enjoyable battle to watch- makes me dribble and wish my computer could handle it. Oh to play again... the battles seemed appropriately hectic and explosive.

As for the video.. what a great battle, pity no avatar for the show but this battle really shows the potential of this game and it is EPIC. It´s naturally 3vs3 oriented but it sure isn´t a bad thing to play with more buddies.. oh and btw Eldar rock .
