"And what are the achievements of your fragile Imperium? It is a corpse rotting slowly from within while maggots writhe in its belly. It was built with the toil of heroes and giants, and now it is inhabited by frightened weaklings to whom the glories of those times are half-forgotten legends. I have forgotten nothing, and my wisdom has expanded far beyond mere mortal frailties."
-Ahriman of the Thousand Sons.
After trying to send a psychic message to the Emperor declaring Warmaster Horus for the traitor that he was at the outset of the Horus Heresy, Magnus and his legion, the Thousand Sons, were unfortunately the victims of a cruel twist of fate. The Emperor refused to believe that Horus, his most favoured son, had gone rogue and instead accused Magnus of being the traitor. Furthermore the Emperor had expressly banned any form of sorcery, which Magnus had clearly used to send his advance warning. The Emperor was furious and justice had to be done, so he dispatched Leman Russ and the Space Wolves to arrest Magnus and bring him back to Terra for judgement. Horus, however, caught news of this development and used it to his advantage. He capitalized on Leman Russ' dislike (some say hatred) for Magnus and his Thousand Sons and convinced him, via interstellar transmission, that the Emperor had changed his mind and that Magnus and indeed all of Prospero's inhabitants had to be destroyed for the good of the Imperium. Caught utterly by surprise the people of the Thousand Sons' homeworld, Prospero, were annihilated and their planet bombed into oblivion. The Thousand Sons fought desperately against the Space Wolves, and Magnus and Leman Russ dueled furiously. Magnus' greatest strength was not his sword-skill however, he was a scholar and a sorcerer more than he was a warrior, and at the last Leman Russ hefted his body high and broke his back over his knee. Prostrate and defenseless, his space marines being cut down before his very eyes Magnus finally uttered a terrible oath and sold his soul to Tzeentch, the Chaos God of Change and Sorcery. The unholy deity promptly whisked the wounded primarch and his legion away from Prospero, saving their lives, but at a terrible cost.
Because of his reluctant alleigance to Tzeentch, and also because he and his space marines had no where else to go, the Thousand Sons and their primarch threw in their lot with Horus and aided him in his plans of galactic domination. It was only after the Horus Heresy however, when the Thousand Sons had fled into the Eye of Terror, that the "favour" of Tzeentch really began to take its toll. Many in the legion developed debilitating mutations and some were driven mad by the gifts given to them by their god. In the midst of all of this the Thousand Sons' chief librarian, Ahriman, sought a way for the legion to escape madness and mutation and so began to plan and prepare for a spell that he called the Rubric of Ahriman. After months of preparation a cabal of the Thousand Sons' most powerful sorcerers gathered together to cast the spell. They began the spell, but it soon became apparent that the power of the sorcery would be too much even for them to control. The spell went awry and the skies of the daemonworld the Thousand Sons had settled on, the Planet of Sorcerers, were filled with roiling cloud and lightning. Even daemons fled at the power unleashed by Ahriman's cabal. Ensorcelled lightning streamed down from the skies, striking down all those Thousand Sons who had little or no psychic talent. Finally Magnus himself, now a daemon prince, utilized his own immense power to halt the spell.
All of the Thousand Sons who had minimal or nonexistent psychic power were turned to dust, their souls sealed within their armour, forced to live on in a bodiless existence for eternity. Magnus was livid and banished Ahriman and his cabal from the Planet of Sorcerers and the Thousand Sons' chief librarian has wandered the galaxy ever since, plundering artifacts and sorcerous tomes, always looking to increase his knowledge and power.

As you might have already guessed this mod and the "old" Thousand Sons mod done by Mit Gas and company are one and the same. Thud and Unrealdirektor have been working tirelessly for the past month to get all of the Thousand Sons assets into Soulstorm and indeed have made significant progress. With the exception of balancing all of the code work is done, the icons are done, the UCS is almost done, a whole bunch of the 3D and FX work is done. It might be a surprise but we're actually definitely "getting there", if you catch my meaning. In any case I'll post more developments (and Thud will too I'm sure, if he gets a chance) as they arise.
For now, so you can be sure that I'm not lying, here are a handful of screenshots:
