Homeworld 2 Crash with a Twist.

So I'm playing through Homeworld after just installing it on this particular system.

    AMD 6000+ Dual Core
    2 GB Ram
    Plenty of Hard Drive Space
    Radeon 2600XT (PCI-e)

I had an issue before with twin Radeons installed without the CrossFire Bridge. I'd get a few minutes into the first level and my machine would just turn itself off. No errors, just *click*

Since the CrossFire isn't enabled anyway, I pulled the second card and it worked until the end of Level 3 and then *click*

It only started doing this after Homeworld and only when running Homeworld. I can run other, bigger programs with no issues.

    My HW2.log contents:

Anyone have any ideas? I'm kinda stumped.
I appreciate if anyone can provide any assistance as I miss playing this old game.

That's a log file from trying to load level 3?

Did you have a mod installed or something?

I was mistaken, it is M-05, the Ghenna astroids. I haven't installed any mods. It loads runs for maybe 5 minutes at max before it turns the PC off.

I've tried the -noVBO and -noDisplayLists switches and am about to try the -nopbuffer switch now.

Maybe something's corrupt in the game or your power plug is not sitting properly in the socket.

If it's a recretable error, then something in the game is causing a serious issue with his hardware.

It *could* be bad game data, but I suspect the game is making his video card(s) do something they shouldn't.

Does it do the same thing with crossfire mode disabled?

At the moment, there is only one card installed. I do not have the hardware bridge to make cross fire mode work and so I removed the second card.

I've tried all the command line switches and even reinstalled the game. I got it to run for 10 minutes this time and then, *click*, PC just turns off. No Blue Screen of Death, no error log, nothing, just power off.

    I'm at a loss here.

You have the second card? Try putting it in place and removing the existing card?

Something really really bad is happening here to shut your system off. It's probably drawing too much power for some reason.

I will try switching cards and see what happens.

I restarted the game and was able to play through up until M-05 (Oracle) and it did it again. It did it when the Bentusi showed up in the previous mission and I skipped the video. At the moment, it seems something in M-05 is causing this more than anything else.

ok crash the game on purpose and after reboot go immediately to control panel -> event viewer and look to see if there is anything in red at the time you made it crash. Link us to a screen shot of what it says

I disabled the nlips option and now it works. I'll re-enable it and check the event viewer though just to see what's going on.

hmmm why would disabling nlips cause that... nlips is the "scaling" option... nothing graphically unique there.

Thats what I thought too. Ever other graphic setting is cranked up to the max with no issues though. I even tried turning everything down at one point with no change.

I'm going to see about getting to crash again so I can see if anything shows up in the event viewer.
