I think archive.exe is a Relic tool for CoH.

I'm having troubles even opening the soundpack SGAs, nothing from SpookyRAT to the command line tools seems to know what to do with these new archives. What I'm looking to do is dump the entire 'gamesound.sga' to a folder.

I had no trouble doing that with the SGAReader linked above... I extracted all of the game's .sga's for easy access when I actually get a chance to start modding.

    Croaxleigh:
    1) archive.exe is a Relic-made tool which comes with CoH / WorldBuilder
    2) It might be worth changing the link text to "SgaReader2.exe", so that old-timers don't confuse it with my old SgaReader / SgaViewer tool

When I tried to download this item from that list: Corsix' Sga4to5.exe my antivirus popped up and said it had removed a trojan (which was apparently said file...).

It says it's detection name is: Artemis! 7DDE9165BB17

    So...

So send said file to your antivirus provider so that they can fix their detection algorithms. There has already been one antivirus company which I sent it to, who confirmed it was not a virus, and updated their definition files accordingly.

Please create a new thread and provide significantly more details than that... there's no way that anybody will be able to help you based on what you've said there. We'll need to know the changes that you've made, tools that you're using, etc.

    a quick note:
the archive.exe here is (as far as i know) outdated, and the one in the locally installed dow2 directory will produce sga5 archives directly without needing to convert them from 4->5...

    A messy explanation i know...

also; As Cope never actually sleeps or des anything than toil in the mines for the rest of us, he have come up with yet another tool.

Some sort of LUA based rbf compiler ^^

Someone may still find some use out of this: http://www.modsrus.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=3949

Uses multiple rbfconv processes to mass batch convert rbf files.

[edit] If someone else wants to host it elsewhere go ahead. ModsRUs is currently under heavy construction so could be some bugs and such, don't mind those.

Just a quick thought. Maybe we could have a whole Sub-Forum deditcated to 'Homebrew Modding Tools'? There certainly are alot of tools, and subsequently lots questions about these tools - and this could help to organize them all together. And obviously have this thread stickied in there aswell.

Crazy Bump is a program that makes the process of making normal maps much easier, and someone with only some experience with paint programs could make the quality of textures used in DOW 2.

I'm hesitant to add CrazyBump to the list considering that the personal license costs $99 (even the student license is $49); I see that there's a demo available, but the site doesn't list the limitations that are on said demo. All of the other tools and plugins are free to use and fully featured (and while a few might be plugins or scripts for commercial programs such as Photoshop and 3DS Max, there's no charge for the plugins or scripts themselves.)

NoisyMonk: The staff discussed that possibility when the Heretek Cabal was first created, but there's basically just not enough tools to warrant a subforum. The threads for all of the tools that have been developed here can be accessed through this sticky, and any specific questions that people have can be addressed in the general discussion area of the Cabal.

  38. #38
Limitations appears to just be duration based. I had no trouble using it to create a variety of maps. It handles not just normal, but specular and occlusion (as well as other types of maps not pertinent to dow2). Very amazing program.

Added Miguel's RBF Editor to the list. If tool creators would please check the list and post a link in this thread for anything that hasn't been added as yet, I'll try and get this thing up-to-date again sometime in the next few days. Thanks!

Just noticed that Cope's Toolbox is still labelled as the Basic RBF Editor. You might also consider making a separate Mod Studio category for the 3 mod studios there have been.

Completely revamped/updated Croaxleigh's OP. Keep me posted, folks

I'm having a problem with Zanyth0x42's SGA Archive GUI. Even though I have DOWII and expansions installed, it can't find the Archive.exe.

Do you know about a solution or an alternative program?

  46. #46
@Procyon once you launched it, hit file -> settings then hit the v5 tab (dow2), hit the browse button (3 dots) and browse to your retribution folder in steam, then the tools folder, in the bin subfolder there's archive.exe.

  47. #47
Hey there. I have one problem with Cope's DoW2 Toolbox. I've modded the DLC colors earlier this month with no problem what so ever, but after I re-installed Retribution(caus I had random freeze issue and wondered if I need to re-install the game) the Toolbox doesn't allow me to save the changed text file at defaultchapters.lua.
I hit save and it automatically creates a "no path set" folder in the game directory for some reason.

Here is the details of the issue:

    Spoiler

    Any help is appreciated
