Not to retreat to a beacon?

Not to retreat to a beacon?

I was playing a 3v3 the other day with a few friends and what seems to keep happening was that they had a reinforcement beacon (I don't know the exact name. I know it comes from the Tech Marine) at the top of the map. I'm at the bottom of the map. I tell my hero to retreat and instead of running back to base (which is the closest) he deicdes to run ALL THE WAY TO THE NORTH. Through enemy troops to get to their beacon.. but he died in the process.

Is this something thats intended or what?

Yeah, it seems thats the way it works currently. It's pretty dumb in my opinion.

It wouldn't be a bad thing if there at least some kind of notification that it's being deployed. It's always a terrible surprise when I pull my troops out of melee and then hit retreat to heal... and have them run right back to the Tyranid Warriors/Sluggas/Assault Marines they just ran away from.

I had something worse happen sh0gun. Defending the Souther VP on a map with 2 VP in the North one in the South. I lost 4 Guardians over 2 Squads, 3 Banshees and my commander was below 20% health after routing a Space marine. I figured that hey i have FOF i can get these guys healed up and back before the marine returns. I hit retreate for those units they run due north not East to my base I watched as they ran threw 2 nid armies pulling them to a reinforce beacon my Techmarine ally had set up at the north eastern VP the one the enemies side, before that position was over run. Nothing made it to the relay. A level 10 commander 2 level 3 Guardian squads a level 2 Banshee squad. My Southern VP was over run and we lost the game.

Another game where I was allied with 2 techmarines the Southern Techmarine put a relay in my operation area I had the center spawn. Later the northern Techmarine draped a relay in the north. The Southern techmarine got hit 2 on one and retreated yelling oover the mic he was regruping at center of the map and that I sould hold off heading down. His retreateing troops ran past the center relay and continued raning to the Norther relay.

I would like Relic to have the standard retreate head to base and a different button retreate to closest reinforcement relay.

They've got it in CoH with the retreat to Captain, so it's a bit puzzling for it to be missing here.

It's practically a form of griefing, is how bad the beacons are. Completely awful 90% of the time. I don't much give a fuck that my teammate wants to keep everyone at some particular point, especially when that point requires me to retreat thru the enemy and end up further away from the area I'm fighting in that my own base!
But we love CoH, it's by far the best RTS game I've ever played. Every rose has its thorns, except CoH's thorns are more like laser guided serrated switch blades. - Painmuffin

Send me a cookie and I'll tell you.
Even if properly placed, once the enemy gets in range of the beacon with AoE weapons, you're screwed. I played against a Techmarine last night who placed the relay next to the stairs in Capital Spire. 2 Plasma nades + Warlock's Destructor & Immolate = 2 armies wiped out. To add insult to injury, I made sure my allies didn't destroy the relay after we captured the area. =)

TM basically lost them the game.

In its current state it's broken imo. I get horribly horribly frustrated when i realise my teammate has built one. More often than not it completely overrides my ability to return to base to heal - particularly bad seeing you cant heal commanders at relays. I wish they'd fix this. I've been whinging about it since beta.
