CoH - Modern Combat! "Patch 1.014" (April 17th 2013)

    Hi folks! Here we are with another monthly update for all our fans out there!

    The month of July has been an eventful one for the team, and we'd like to officially announce our latest endeavour. After plenty of hard work by various developers, progressing and revising some of the finer elements of the mod, overall gameplay/balance is finally at a point where unit statistics are relatively stable, though by no means final.
    So without further ado, we'd like to reveal the newest CoH: Modern Combat feature: an online database of unit statistics, complete with in-depth information about the various soldiers and vehicles that make up our mod! Costs, requirements, abilities, upgrades... it's all there, in the Mod section! For example, here's the U.S. Riflemen entry!



    Even though you can't play Modern Combat yet, we hope that the database will allow potential players to become better acquainted with our mod in general, and gain more insight into the way both the U.S. and P.L.A. factions function in-game. Once the mod is eventually released, it should grant players access to specific in-game details at a moment's notice, always useful for formulating effective strategies, build orders, unit combinations, and more.

    In the near future, we plan to further develop and supplement the existing database, adding new content and linking it more directly to our faction layout pages, which we intend to make more interactive as well.
    Please note that at the time of writing, not all initial database pages have been completed, simply because we'd rather be punctual whenever possible and avoid delays.

    Hopefully you like what we've done! Browse through the database to become a better CoH: Modern Combat commander upon release!

    Also, a huge thank you to Sven (aka "M4c") for the homepage coding support!

    Just to be clear, this mod won't overhaul the gameply right? (Like mods such as Blitzkrieg or Back to Basics.)

    I must be playing a completely different version of Back to Basics then, as it overhauls gameplay for me (infantry and tanks die faster etc.).

    Well, it has a new weapon system, but the basic gameplay is the same. BK and BotB have completely new setup of units and such with increased squad sizes and such; thát is overhauled gameplay. But let's not continue this discussion any further here.

    Modern Combat will try to carry the vanilla CoH gameplay into a modern setting. We are convinced that vCoH gameplay is best suited for competitive gameplay and can still provide an awesome experience for casual players. We try to provide an awesome mod for all players and not just realism enthusiasts or other minorities.

    -What was the background in deciding that the second faction be China instead of say Russia?

    -Will there be maps based on the United States?

    I'ts possible that they were aware about the EF-mod being made at the time maybe, and if so it would've seemed logical to go with China from that point of view. Plus I think for this day and age most WW2 games have already used Russians alot and I think that if ever something started with the major military powers of today China once again would stand out as a logical Faction. Plus they have the Tech to a degree to have a counter attack for everything the US has, and visa versa. So straight away it makes for a good mod I think. Personally I like it that its not Russian, well atleast an updated 2010 Russian army. That way we have something fresh and new to play with

    As far as Im aware theres maps for both Countries, I know theres definately chinese ones

    I don't believe we are working on any US maps at the moment. Don't worry China has enough different terrains that you will be able to play at a variety of different battlefields

    Welcome CoH: MC fans!
    We know what you've been waiting for! Yes, we're one week late, but it will all be worth it. Today we present you the update for August 2011.

    But before we get to that part, we want to point out to people, who didn't browse our homepage carefully to take a look at our completely finished unit pages. To make the waiting not as painful for you, we updated our database with the last missing entries since last saturday. This includes all the PLA infantry that were missing at the start. Now you might think, "PLA infantry?! I have only seen german substitutes for them until now". That's right, until now, but we finally were able to update the PLA soldiers to have a proper chinese look by giving them a new head model. So, if you want to see how they turned out and at the same time check their statistics, go visit the PLA unit pages on our homepage.

    That's it for the static part. We know you want action! And thus we have compiled a new trailer for you, that features a lot of unseen stuff. The footage was filmed on one of our WIP maps, so watch out for new environmental stuff, like cars, new buildings, etc.
    Our other particularly noteworthy features are the new US Headquarters tent, new heavy machine gun teams, TOW emplacements, Chinese Infantry models, a skin update for the Type 82 Mult Rocket Launcher System and finally... an AH-64 Apache that wrecks havoc in the final scene! And to polish it up, the ambient audio sound is the new US background soundtrack, composed by Schuetzengraeber!

    Black Sand Studios is just top notch! Project Reality is amazing, and Modern Combat is shaping up as well. You continue to deliver quality, plain and simple. Oh and the TOW emplacement at 1:26 made me shriek like a little girl. Keep on brothers, keep on!

    Reason was quite simple, in summer 2007, Russia was represented a lot in games as the main opponent, if the opponent wouldn't be a terrorist organisation. China has a lot of domestic made equipment, and wasn't/ isn't represented in a lot of games. It's a clash of the two largest armies in the world in a modern setting, instead of a classic Cold War setting.

    Also, any plans for adding tracer rounds? They are quite staple for modern armies.

    (The ones in VCoD are pretty light-ish.)

    You cannot burn the .fx files properly for CoH with the current tools. So even if we wanted to edit the tracers, we wouldn't be able to.

    You'll wonder, "is it the last saturday of the month already again?". No, it isn't, but we've been late the last 2 months, so we thought this month we'll come back with an early surprise! So you get the september update today, one week earlier than expected.

    Hold your breath, we'll show you our animation masterpiece, the UH-60 Blackhawk!
    Players who choose the Air Superiority doctrine will be able to take use of an Air Assault. It will consist of an Airbourne squad and a Stryker Mobile gun system, both delivered by air disposal. The Airbourne squad will be carried to its destination by the Blackhawk Helicopter, fast-roping their way down into combat. Doesn't that sound sweet? Take a look yourself and watch the demonstration movie.
    Just like for our last trailer, the background music is not just generic, but it is one of our new soundtracks, explicitly made for our mod. This time it's the menu background sountrack. Enjoy.

    It looks pretty good, but the helicopter is a little jerky when it flies in. Also, the pilot's head is sticking out the front windscreen

    As a thank you for voting us into the top 100 of this years Mod of the year competition we promised you to deliver the first CoH: Modern Combat shoutcast in history! And here it is: A game from the current alpha version of our mod, between CoH:MC co-leader Darkbladecr and our map artist WmDSpanky. They are battling it out on one of the new maps, Senlin Lukou, by OnkelSam.

    Spanky is not the only one from WmD clan, who is supporting our mod.     Awesome! I hate to complain but shouldn't the abrams, being the KT of Modern Combat be able to take out a rocket launcher without any problems? It fired several times on the PLA rocket launcher without even killing it.

    The problem was that the abrams was switching targets many times before he finally finished them off. Also he was constantly moving around so the turret had to reaim over and over again, which reduced the fire rate significantly. At the same time he was eating 10+ AT gun shots... Believe us, if used right, the Abrams is a beast!

    2012 is gonna be a good year for COH modding


    Thankyou for the shoutcast, that was a really intense and fun game to watch, on the Abrams thing I think it was just a mix of bad-luck and last minute desperation, a King Tiger wouldnt fare much better if you sent it alone against all that either.

    After all these years playing CoH i have gotten bored with it a bit and as i became less and less interested in CoH i stoped visiting the forums, but i check in every 4-5 months to see how this mod is going and boy am i suprised at the progress. I was interested when the mod first started and to see it come so far is so freakin impressive, stay strong guys im really really dieing to play this.
