This looks great! Keep up the good work!
This looks great! Keep up the good work!
Hello and welcome back to another highlight. Forgive the late arrival, but we've all been busy on multiple fronts. Nevertheless we want to give you a peek at what we have come up with this month.
First thing to mention would be another revision. This time it's the Stryker and its various variants. KnightOfAmmo utilized all the skill he has gathered from his past works and delivered us with this new top notch texture. But it's not only a revision. We also added the cage armor upgrade, which will be available for Close Combat commanders. Have a closer look at the following pictures.
We've also made progress on other fronts. For example, we've animated and imported some new environmental assets, and there are more to come. With these assets our mappers are able to create modern environments in an Asian/Pacific setting. The following pictures are just to give you an idea of what we are talking about.
Hopefully you enjoy the new footage. Don't forget to leave comments on our forums. See you at moderncombat.blacksandstudio.com

One word: Amazing!
I forgot to give proper credits. The wooden tower model and texture have been provided by Mannerheim! Thanks again!
This mod looks amazing keep up the good work i love the screens and the vids. Pure Magic

Not as an active member anymore, afaik. The model/texture is quite old already. Every now and then we can reach him for tips, but thats it.
Are you guys going to "modernize" all of the current stock maps? (just noticed the industrial tower containers are on a stock map)
We have no plans right now to modernize current stock maps. We just didnt want to show those new assets without an environment, so we put them onto other maps.
However, modernizing stock maps is not a bad idea. We will certainly not do this for all maps, because its impossible, but we might pick some special ones that suite an asian setting too.
Ok, that is cool![]()
Are you guys going to add stuff like, static ac-10s and little birds, so maybe you could make like "defend the airfield" kinda stuff?
or just have a map which has an airfield in it or something, anyways...just some things that would help out the maps.
#211
Yes we will probably use actual player models and their wrecks as environmental objects, just like relic used glider and panzer wreaks on some of their mapsThe possibilities are limitless!
Nice work guys. Great to see some environment objects in there. Is the civvie buildings damagable/garrisonable yet? I've been puzzling away at how environment buildings work in CoH since they're modelled differently to Axis/Allied structures.
#213
Yes garrison, damage, and physics all work. Just need to sort out local damage. So that when a mortar falls on one part of the roof, then that part of the roof gets blown open.
Impressive stuff man, can't wait to see it in action![]()
Hello Modern Combat fans,
While the work on our mod is proceeding, we thought some of you might like to use our new loading screen as a wallpaper. We hope you like it.
See you on http://moderncombat.blacksandstudio.com
This looks awesome OnkelSam. Well done. Any chance you could put persistent bodies into this mod?
Do you mean, dead soldiers should not vanish from the map after some time but stay? ... This is not possible for us. Mods are already more demanding on resources and keeping those bodies would drag down the performance significantly, with little benefit.
Yes that's what I meant. I don't think the performance would suffer as much as you think. I use a very average computer and am playing the NCH mod now (which has persistent bodies), and I don't get any reduced performance from the bodies staying.
Anyway, your mod still looks great.
Simply awesome! Having environments with modern look was by biggest concern for MC. I'm looking forward to this alot more now. Great stuff
R.I.P MrScruff-A very talented and valued friend who is sorely missed
@Proximus - I have a low end computer, and we used to have persistent bodies in ZM until my computer kept freezing.
Hi, was just curious about something, but are you going to add the humvee with the open top?
And also, have you thought about having the humvee with the wood box thing where it is like xtended cab that is wood and open topped, think is called the...M998 Cargo Carrier HMMWV
(took me awhile on google images to find :P )
Don't wanna look like im requesting it, was just curious as it would be a freat asset to mappers, and would provide an ammo truck sort of unit (much like the GMC Duece and a Half does now.) Thx, Plz don't look at it the wrong way
PS I know that you have a lot of work on your hands, and that this is a rather less important part of the mod.
Dear Modern Combat fans,
I know you are waiting for more updates and footage! Normally this saturday would be the time again.
However, we are suffering from a server downtime at Blacksandstudios, which is most likely correlated with the storm seasen in the middle-south of the US. Without our forums working it is hard for us to coordinate and publish the next update. As a result we will postpone it to the time when the server will be up again.
Thank you for your patience!
Hello, and welcome back for another monthly overview!
Unfortunately, as you might have noticed, this past week the Black Sand Studios website and forums were taken offline for a prolonged period of time due to server problems. Although we are happy to report that the site is now back online again, our current press release is a little behind schedule, so we'd like to apologise for that.
But enough of that for now... today we have our brand new user interface to show you!
First of all, the Modern Combat main menu, recent recipient of a major makeover!
Behind it, a generic background for use in menus and lobbies. It depicts a stylised map of North-Eastern China, and of the coasts and major cities that border the Bohai Sea. The People's Republic of China will serve as the primary theatre of war within which the battles of Modern Combat are set.
If you look closely, you can also make out the semi-transparent video that overlays the generic background screen:
Up next are pics of the command tree menus, where you can check out the three doctrines available to either faction. And while you're at it, check out the awesome environmental assets in the background!
- U.S.A. (Air Superiority, Close Area Battle, and Armoured Warfare):
- P.L.A. (The Future Is Now, Full Mobilisation, and Asymmetric Warfare):
Last, but not least, the victory and defeat pop-up screens, always there to mark a particularly satisfying victory... or an embarrassing defeat:
That's all for today folks, but don't forget to check our Homepage or Forums for any updates or previous press releases you might have missed!

Looks pretty good, especially the main menu. However I do think that your GUI icons in the commander trees, and the victory/defeat screens can be improved a lot.
The ones in the commander tree are pretty... low quality, and the victory/defeat screens are too bright.
Will you guys include the navy seals, marines and/or delta force? (curious cuz i have a half finished map intended for navy seals :P )
We dont include the Navy in this mod. The thing that comes closest to Navy SEALs are the Green Berets from Close Area Combat doctrine.
A small suggestion.
The China victory pop-up screen with Mao's photo, I heard some players thought it as an oddity. We can say today in China Mao is a symbol, more or less the same as Lenin or Stalin in Russia nowadays. China has changed a lot since Mao himself and his era left 30 years before. If this mod is Patriotic War and use Stalin's photo, that maybe suitable.
The USA victory pop-up screen, flag with a medal is a good idea. Maybe you can use a modern PLA soldier's photo instead of Mao's.
BTW:do you need a chinese translator? I translated the Doctrines when they were released last year.Maybe it's useful.

To my knowledge there is no local chinese version for china, or is there one? If there is, then we could certainly use someone who can create a whole language package in chinese for the mod. Otherwise we can still use your current translations for our homepage later.
If you want to apply as a translater, just be aware that there are really many user interface entries that would need translationyou're welcome to help.
COH has a chinese version, in tradition chinese, but the translation……"Knight Cross" was translated as "Iron Cross";"General Assault Badge", general means common, but was translated as the rank; "Funkwagon" and “Hetzer” were translated as pronunciation, while "Schwimmwagon" as meaning, and "Marder" sometimes as pronunciation, sometimes as meaning; Marder‘s chassis 38(t), t means “Tschechoslowakei”, but was translated as “ton”
and I just registered an account on blacksandstudio.com, but I received no message to activate my account.

As far as i remember we have no confirmation mail, but only a security question
Question: "who brings the presents at christmas"
Answer: "santa"
I know it's a stupid question :P it was not my choice![]()
an ider came to me, what about using one of these armyemblems instead of Mao's photo?
![]()
like i said on moddb. If Chinese people feel offended by the Mao picture, we can think about alternatives. Is this the common consense on chinese forums? Sorry, i have little knowledge about Chinese political thinking. Those medals are certainly an option, in case we need to change things.
Well, it's not offending, but strange. Like Vladimir Putin once said, "The one who dosen't cherish the memory of USSR has no conscience, and the one who wants to recover USSR has no cerebra". Of course Mao is one of the greatest leaders in Chinese history, but he has left. Using Mao's picture may cause many chinese people consider your impression about China still rests on 30 years before, that is not "modern".
That is, if a chinese soldier said "For Chairman Mao" in combat 30 years ago, it's natural, like a Russian soldier said "For Stalin" in WWII. But if nowadays a chinese soldier says "For Chairman Mao" in combat, it's unintelligible.![]()
i bet many Chinese don't like chairman mao anymore ,along with more and more real history information been made open .
but i don't think those game players would care about just one pic of him .

At the moment its still relatively small, considering the content it contains (new models/skins & sounds/artwork), my version is around 700mb, but I havent updated in a few weeks. The only thing that could possibly make it grow larger at this stage would be if addittional sounds are included, as the bulk of the models and skins are presently in the mod
Ok, so a little bit later than scheduled (and we apologise for that), but here we are to serve you up another monthly update!
The Modern Combat team has reached some major milestones throughout the month of May, polishing the mod and bringing it closer and closer to something that resembles a finished product. Some of these milestones include:
-The overhaul and purging of over fifteen thousand existing U.S. speech files. All work on said files is now complete.
-The near-complete implementation of new weapon and vehicle sound effects, all thanks to the hard work of our resident sound engineer, Castus. Also, a heartfelt thankyou to our BF2-modding colleagues at Black Sand Studios, who kindly donated the vast majority of the effects, and without whom the mod wouldn't sound as great as it does!
-The successful coding of a vertical fire mode for the FGM-148 Javelin (which was one hell of a tricky job), courtesy of Darkbladecr.
Due to the nature of these changes, we don't have many pretty screenshots to bombard you with, but we do have a gameplay video instead. Along with the new sound effects and processed speech files, we'd also like to take the chance to show off some in-game footage of our previously re-modelled Bradley (model by DemoSS and Darkblacecr, skin by Chopin) and re-skinned Stryker (Knight of Ammo), as well as provide you with a brief glimpse of the aforementioned Javelin update.
Oh, and we threw in some firefights and explosions too. You guys like that kind of stuff, right?
So that's it for May, but don't forget to check our Homepage for any updates or previous press releases you might have missed!

2 years for skins and models, and another 2 years for sounds/others?
(2013) 4 years is a bit long for a mod, no?
You have to understand that for a cpl of those years, there where NO TOOLS, and if there where, there was no documentation and so little people knew how to use them without that documentation. I would say in those first years, it was more a dream than a mod in the making, but since the tools are now very well explained through great tutorials and documentation by the Community, the mod has escalated in leaps in bounds, and theres no way this will be out in 2013, my guess being involved in the team would be 2011 or if certain areas take longer, early 2012, but this is my own personal guess and doesnt represent any Mod Release dates. Your theory could be attributed to all things in life, as ppl before you have done the hard work, its irrelevant you take what they've already achieved and then you start from that point. The information you've used could've taken years in the making, and yet you put it too use in 5mins, but you cant ridicule those who took the 5yrs to help you today achieve your 5mins worth of work. One could simply use that argument to point that out on the Computer your using to write this post!

There is to be no further discussion of whether the mod is taking too long to produce, and no further asking for updates thanks.
Searcher64, the people who create mods like this do it for free, as a hobby, in their spare time. Posting something like you did makes it seem like you are demanding they work for you for no pay. The mod will be released when it is finished, until then show a little patience. sirpsychoj has given a very good explanation of some of the things that make this a mod that will take some time to complete, so I will leave his reply here.
For everybody else who commented in the thread, please don't just jump on somebody else like that and drag the thread off into an argument. We have a 'Report Post' button for a reason, please use it and let the staff look after things from there.

Hello followers,
We know you are waiting for another update, but we have to dissapoint you this month. Due to a lot of real life work for almost all key members of the mod we have not had a chance to dedicate time to create footage for you this time.
We'll update our image gallery on moderncombat.blacksandstudio.com with a few pictures over the month as a tradeoff though. Stay tuned for another update next month.
