Forums are a Go - thanks to Thud. Have just posted the new tech tree there as well as a comprehensive progress report, which I hope to keep fairly up to date!

Check it out and have your say! We welcome constructive input from the community!
Yay updates, I love the branching system and your tech trees are remarkable. Even without the Thunderhawk your mod shall be epic among proportions. But the thunderhawk would be all cool twist, I mean when relic said they were introducing air support I too, believe they meant thunderhawk, I mean the tempest didn't eve cross my mind. Good luck Mephistoned and the rest of the Space Wolves Mod team. I'll support you however I can.

Thanks for the pom-poms Chaplain! You wouldn't happen to have any modding/ painting/ coding kills would you?![]()
With UCS done I am not just starting to get into 3D Max, and icons are also on the imminent list. New asset creation is a mammoth task - and we have lots of it (or at least conversion) so help is always appreciated!
Umm i havent tried beta testing before but im willing to give it a go if ull permit it if not then I dont mind but the offers there appart from that I cant help u with anything sorry
Thundercats, HO!Snarf, snarf
Keep up the good work guys!
Silent Assassin - when we get even CLOSE to testing, you'll be the first to know, but we have a mountain to climb first...though a rewarding one I don't doubt. Alpha testing might be a possibility in the nearer future though.
Chaplain - Thunderhawks are most definitely cool, and if we manage to do what we hope with it, then I assure you that jaws will drop.
Potemkis - got the reference - ha! I fear my conception of the Fang (and therefore the Stormtower which is modelled after it) is somewhat influenced by the Thundercat's lair. Anyway - wait and see. And before I get flamed I DO know how big the real Fang is - atmospheric at its peak etc. Nonetheless, towers and Space Wolves do seem to go together somehow. Odd that. Wolves should live in caves. Anyway... GW has its own logic, bless their little cotton paws.
General Update - got 3D max set up, it's time to start modelling...
No problem, I notice greatness when I see it. I wish I could model and all that other fun stuff, but I can't and would need professional help to learn. If I could I'd be stuck helping every mod I could with modeling, especially yours. Sadly I don't know how and don't have anybody close enough to teach me. But I plan to learn in college, but that is about 1 senior year of highschool and the two first years of college away. Sorry Bro.!!!
I gots some eye candy coming soon

Looking forward to it Gerb. Just downloaded your legions Mod - what an industrious fellow you are! We MUST get coordinted though if you are producing models too. I am so keen to accelerate things by not reinventing the wheel - a hangover from my hack and slash model conversion days. If there's an army, head, model, animation, texture, anything that can be used to make something new, I'm for it! IT speeds everything onwards exponentially.
Just call me Frankenstein baby! And hope no one ever sees the stiches.![]()
An early bit of eye candy for you. I didn't expect to have anything to show so soon... but thanks a quick internet search and the charming gentleman dddrew who has created some excellent 3D wolves, I DO! My 3D modelling skills are advancing fast, though I am still at the level of mild conversions and sculpting what already exists. Absolute respect to those who create new models out of thin air - how do you do it?
Anyway, this has been an excellent exercise, and may I present our wolves (complete with collar and tag...ahhhh!) and the somewhat more ferocious Wolves of Fenris. I wanted to add some bionics to the Wolves of Fenris, since I couldn't see these ferocious beasts serving the Space Wolves with anything less than mind-controlling implants installed. In the mod these units are powerful against infantry, and have a longer detect range than normal Space Wolves. They can also form a retinue for characters, and can be built from LPs, making them a useful defence.
Take a look!

Perhaps that for those who aren't registered in or don't want to register in revora you could repost those pics from image hosting servers like photobucket, imageshack or others... Please?

I am not making models Meph! Retexturing![]()
Does anyone know where I might find a FREE 3D Max model of a Raven, eagle, hawk crow, or any other such predatory bird. If it were rigged or even animated, so much the better. Been round the google houses but no luck so far. There was one on Turbosquid which sadly proved to be an old Max file and incompatible. Could purchase something in theory but some of them are quite ludicrously expensive in my view for something that doesn't exist, though I certainly appreciate the man hours involved.
Anyway, if you can help I would be eternally grateful. It would make modelling Nightwing the work of a moment rather than a millenium. Ta!
P.S - have a gander at Ulrik - post no.1. I'm pleased that 3D modelling has so much in common with the plastic conversion work I did years ago. Except less glue, more fiddly controls, less dropping that tiny bit on the carpet and ferreting around for it, and you can copy and resize stuff. It certainly pays to know that one can frequently steal from another model, or mould what's already there to make something new. Hazzah!
Go Meph! *cheerleader mode*
Obvious suggestion: use that wolf head (modified in some way) as the basis for the wolf pelts & other wolfy adornments.

for Horus' Rare "other mod post of the month", be careful on what meshes and textures you borrow, if its from other sources. always ask and get permission. That's all MortalsIt certainly pays to know that one can frequently steal from another model, or mould what's already there to make something new.![]()

Agree totally, and I was referring to the vanilla models. Anything else will need permission followed by accrediting.
Gerberman - I'm way ahead of you boyo! In fact that wolf head, and the wolf skulls on the chaplain, will be very very useful...
Ok, have finished Ulrik the Slayer, Grey Hunters, Traps and Wolf Scouts models - posted them up.Enjoy! I'm off to McDonalds to celebrate - hazzah!
Great work man, can't wait to see what comes next. This mod is moving quite nicely keep up the great work as always man.
Umm this reply may be a bit late havent checked the forums in a while but I know its not in beta testing yet im just offering my help when the time comes also whats the 13th? sorry I dont read the codexs anymore

No codices around? Weeee, Lexicanum is here to the rescue!!!

Good news - modelling's going well (and surprisingly fast - the joy of converting!). I have pics of long fangs and a Space Wolf Rhino to upload imminently - though they're on revora if you want to head over there.
Scout's just sent me our latest build, which I've been playing all morning. It's playing well, I'm fairly pleased with the balance so far. Long Fangs are not ingame yet so one ends up relying heavily on wolf scouts to deal with armour.
A new coder, Spartan'd is joining the team soon and this should speed things along nicely. Momentum is key I believe, though as always it's the 3D assets that take the most time, which is why I am working so fast.
A general request for anyone familiar with 3D max. When I use an existing model's weapons, or certain other parts, they often seem to be fixed to pivot point which is not at the centre of the model. This is a real pain, to say the least. Anyone have any idea how to remove this pivot point?
Also, if anyone feels like they want to mentor me in how to unwrap a model and skin it - that would be much appreciated - haven't seen any tutorials on here about unwrapping from Max. Cheers!
I made a quick reference a while back, here:
Spoilered for Fear of Stretch
Although
Although as my compatriot Kresjah pointed out, changing Pivots is not the important part about adding weapons.

I'm also probably going to create further tutorials in the future, I self taught myself, but it took an awful long time to get to the reasonable standard that I am at now. Apart from a few other projects, all my modeling has been for Dawn of War, so i've become relatively adept at modeling for such an engine.

As a sidenote to the "although" spoiler, you should delink them BEFORE importing the weapon, else there is a certain chance it imports the bones (the ones the part of the model you import is hiearchially linked to) from the model that has the weapon your importing meaning you end up with a double set of some bones.
Das Bavarian Franch Reich

19 incidents of prolapsus from France
66 liters of unaware pancreas-hatted English priests
1/2 soothing-voiced Norwegian baboon
Gentleman - my thanks! That's what I needed! I shall reward you all with more models shortly!
Blood Claws, Blood Claw Alphas, Long Fangs and Rhino all added. All finished modelling wise, but not textured.
Btw - if you are lucky enough to be one of our elite development team and haven't been on revora today, Scout has posted a playable Alpha build for you to get your teeth into - it's early stages but it's an interesting play.![]()

BC without full power armour???![]()
You betcha!Remember, I am not sticking rigidly to a codex which is ever-changing and has, frankly, in recent incarnations (as I understand it) become rather dilute, in the sense that I think that the rules often don't really do justice to the richness of the fluff.
Example - we are told that blood claws are young wolves, little more than scouts in practice, yet they are made just as tough as grey hunters - same armour, same toughness (again, as I recall). Way I see it, SW and SM in general get tougher the older they are, and the young 'uns often haven't finished all implantation processes. Now if you couple that with the idea that Blood Claws are CC specialists, then an armour vs. speed compromise seems pretty logical.
To visually represent the fact the BC are not as tough as GH, giving them less armour works best. These guys are vikings, they're bezerkers, reckless with their own safety. They ARE actually wearing power armour, but they've taken off parts of it, helmet, arms, legs - so they can move faster (which in game they will). I'm also not giving them the option of firing a pistol because, again, it doesn't really fit with the idea behind the models to put your BC on ranged stance and have them shoot away.
SW have always been ripe for conversion, and simply by being a DOW mod this is a conversion. The best DOW races, I believe, are the ones where each unit has a definitive role, that is not duplicated by another unit. Many SW units are already distinctive enough, but since GH have a strong CC role as well as at range, the BC and GH needed further differentiation. Our BC will be fast, dangerous, but a little fragile armour and morale wise (for SM). This will however allow us to field them in Tier 1 without them becoming imba, which you couldn't do if they were supertough as well as dangerous. Remember assault marines/ khorne bezerkers are not fielded till Tier 2.
Again, let's be clear, if you want to sit playing a SW mod with your codex on your lap, ticking off every troop and weapon option as you go with one hand, this is NOT for you. You will only be maybe 75% satisfied - but that's where Lleman comes in - and I know he will deliver on that front (he is the Russ after all). I prefer to think of Wolf Lords as l'essence de lupin - and if you want to experience an exciting extension of GW's material, you will be very happy indeed.
So the 13th are basically feral space wolves? with no heavy units such as dreadnought or tanks? well this ought to be interesting thanks LIeman for info on the 13th
wrong topic, this isnt 13th company Silent Assassin, this is Space Wolves chapter in general
Glory to the Emperor, death to the Fallen.
Horus left the Emperor because he didnt get a Barbie for Christmas like he wanted.
Now that we have 3D assets, this is a general call out to any riggers/animators/artists who would like to see this SW mod realised sooner rather than later. Having got to grips with 3D max I am now learning the delicate art of unwrapping, prior to having a go at texturing. I have an idea about rigging/ animation thanks to Spyrer's videos, though I've yet to do it for real.
Now, although I have formidable Wolf Guard backing me up as far coding and AI is concerned, in the form of Chiefscout, Spartan'd and the all pervading Emperor that is the Thud (who really should be renamed, the Emperor), I remain very much a lone wolf regarding the 3D art content.
Not that I'm complaining mind, I am enjoying it, but many hands make light work, and would speed this remarkably fast-moving mod to a more imminent conclusion.
In particular what would be amazing to have right now would be:
a rigger/ animator
fx artist
possibly a texture artist (if you are really good ie. better than me at drawing!)
PM me to let me know if you're interested! <salivates with lolling tongue>
I got some FX skillz being nurtured. Check out my Soul Storm Legions thread in about ten minutes for a short story about some hapless guardsmen and a fuel air bomb.
Ask and thou shallt receive. Nice explosion. Gerberman for FX!
That just leaves riggers/ animators. Step up boys!
Courtesy of Wolf Scout! The Thunderhaw btw is our initial HQ...

Nice thunderhawk!

FFS! It's the relic-made vanilla thunderhawk Fallen Angel !!! Never seen it before? *rolls eyes*
@Mephistoned: so, you decided to go the Hollywood-werewolf way for your Wulfen, hm? Quite, erm, not very grim and feral looking i must say. :/
Nope never seen it before.![]()
Yes it's the vanilla Thunderhawk at present, our Tier 1 HQ (replaced later by Longhouse).
And yes, as for the Wulfen - it's a taste issue. I prefer the full-on werewolf look to the more ape-like wolf-man that is the GW's current interpretation of the Wulfen. As I said in an earlier post, the Lycans from Underworld were my closest inspiration, though I opted for a slightly more classical wolf face as it's somehow...nobler. The werewolf in Potter is just plain scrawny, and the one in Van Helsing had weirdly pointed ears. What other films have werewolves. The Howling? Those were pretty cool. And the one with Christina Ricci - can't remember the name - again, a pretty good werewolf there I think. For me a werewolf is an erect wolf really, whereas the feral ape thing is more of a wolf-man.
But each to their own.I look forward to a nicely contrasting interpretation in 13th.
Not to rain on anyones parade (look at me using Americanisms!) Meph, but do Wulfen actually become that wolf-like?
Theres no easy way of saying this but that just looks cheesy!!
The skinny legs, restructured face... I always pictured them just really hairy, semi hunched big-fanged bastards with a feirce temper and claws, but muscular like you would expect a Space Marine...
Problem is...hairy, big-fanged bastards...well that's pretty much normal Space Wolves. No, I think a greater change is necessary, especially for DOW where a unit needs to look distinctive from a distance. Add a bit of hair and slightly longer fangs and you'd hardly notice it TBH.
It's subjective of course, but wait for the final result. I think you're gonna like it![]()
Woah, that thing is skinny as....
I was thinking they look a little like hairy possessed chaos space marines. But yeah i guess that does make sense, having a distinctive flair.
That thing needs to be a bit buffer though IMO. But do as you will. Damn! that ingame shot is lookin pretty promising...
