    Troubleshooting connection problems

Here you can find some infos about ports and port forwarding, also how to check your connection.

To make sure nothing is blocking DoW2 in case you got connection problems, disable your software firewall and any antivirus software. Forward the necessary ports on your router, infos below.

    What ports does GFWL need?

    Forwarding these ports should work:

    UDP 88

    UDP 3074

Also make sure you have uPnP on your router enabled.

More infos can be found here.

    What ports does Steam need?

    • UDP 27000 to 27015 inclusive (Game client traffic)
    • UDP 27015 to 27030 inclusive (Typically Matchmaking and HLTV)
    • TCP 27020 to 27050 inclusive (Steam downloads)
    source

How do I forward ports on my router?

Check your router's manual or the manufacturer's website for infos.

For a detailed description you can go to portforward.com and find your router, then choose "XBox Live 360" to see how to forward the ports for GFWL.

How can I check my connection and ports?

In DoW2 bring up the GFWL menu (press "home") and find the "network information" in the settings. There check if your NAT-type is "Open" and if uPnP is enabled.

Check your connection with the Internet Connectivity Evaluation Tool for possible problems and solutions. Note that it only can be run with InternetExplorer.

Get the PortChecker from portforward.com for testing your ports.

Set your network connection's MTU to 1500

This was reported by several user to fix there connection issues, have a look here to see how it's done.

Problems connecting to GFWL when using a Sygate/Symantec Firewall

Even if the firewall is set correctly to allow DoW2 and GFWL to pass, a lot of users got the error message "The Live-Service is currently not available..." . This might be fixed with an update for the security software, otherwise you'll have to change the firewall's setting to "allow all".

This will practically disable your firewall, so be warned that it might cause a security issue.

Problems with "G-Data" anti virus software.

G-Data's "Antivirus2010" seems to block the access to GFWL sometimes, to fix it try the suggestions below:

Make sure you are logged in to Windows with an admin account.
Open the software's settings and deactivate the check on web-content on port 80 and the check for Instant-messaging on port 5190.

An update for it might also fix this problem in the future or already has.

Your connection drops after you sign in to LIVE

When you try to connect to Games for Windows LIVE, the connection fails or the connection is dropped after you log on to Games for Windows LIVE. This issue typically occurs for one or more of the following reasons:
The network adapter is using an older device driver. This prevents the adapter from connecting to Xbox LIVE.
The network router is reset when you try to connect to Xbox LIVE.
A Games for Windows – LIVE update is preventing the game from working or connecting to Xbox LIVE.
Antivirus or spyware software is blocking a connection to Games for Windows – LIVE.

To resolve this issue, use one or more of the following methods.

Method 1: Update the network adapter driver by using the latest drivers
Method 2: Update the network router firmware to the latest version
Method 3: Reinstall the latest LIVE update
    Method 4: Check third-party programs
Some antivirus and spyware programs have been known to block or limit the network when you connect to the LIVE service. Try contacting the vendor of your security software to obtain support for connecting to the LIVE service.

When connecting to LIVE you recieve the following error:
Can’t connect to LIVE. Make sure that the selected network adapter can connect to the Internet and try again.

This problem may occur when the Games for Windows LIVE game tries to use the wrong network adapter to connect to the LIVE service. Sometimes the wrong adapter is used when the Internet connection uses Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet (PPPoE).

Create and configure the ConnectionOverride registry entry that points to the network adapter that connects the computer to the Internet. To do this, follow these steps.

    Start Registry Editor;
Windows Vista: Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
Windows XP: Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
Locate and right-click the following registry subkey:
    HKeyCurrentUser\Software\Classes\Software\Microsoft\XLive

Point to New, and then click String Value.

Type ConnectionOverride to name the value, and then click OK.

    Double-click ConnectionOverride.
In the Value data box, type the name of the network adapter that you noted in step 2, and then click OK.

For example, if the "Local Area Connection" adapter connects to the Internet, type Local Area Connection in the Value data box, and then click OK.

    Exit Registry Editor.

After logging off of Games for Windows LIVE service, you cannot reconnect, or the gamer score that appears on Xbox LIVE differs from the gamer score that appears on the Games for Windows LIVE service

These problems occur if the synchronization of the Games for Windows - LIVE account was canceled or stopped before the process was completed.

To work around the problem, try the following troubleshooting methods in the order that they are listed.

Method 1: Play a Games for Windows - LIVE game that you have not played before. This can be a newly purchased game or a demo game. This process initializes the synchronization process with the LIVE service. That should resolve the issue.
Method 2: Play a Games for Windows - LIVE game and earn an achievement.
    Method 3: Follow these steps:
Start a Games for Windows - LIVE game.
Delete the LIVE-enabled profile that is stored locally on the computer, and then re-create the profile.
Connect to LIVE from any Games for Windows - LIVE game.
    Let the synchronization process finish.
Important The synchronization process can take up to six minutes. The length of time depends on how many games are associated with your gaming profile.

Can't connect to LIVE. Error Code 0x8015193
This problem may occur if CyberSitter 9.0 or an earlier version of CyberSitter is installed on your computer. CyberSitter 9.0 and earlier versions of CyberSitter are incompatible with the Games for Windows – LIVE service. If CyberSitter is running, it may block other programs from connecting to the Games for Windows – LIVE service. Either stop or uninstall Cybersitter.
