    Trouble cracking WHM file

Iv just decided to try my hand at modeling, trouble is im unable to get the WHM file format to open in the model program. Im using Blender v 2.48a. Iv seen plenty of info on how to take models from Blender into the game, but not much on getting the games WHMs to open in Blender. Blender only seems to read blender_text type files, so iv been working on the asumption im in need of some sort of converter.

You'll need the tools in this thread before you can get DoW models into Blender.

    Good luck with modelling!

Those are the tools iv been (trying) to use all day. Iv followed the instructions, but Blender simply wont open them. All i get is a message saying ''unknown file type''. Im gussing the only format Blender reads is blender_text because those files appear with a yellow box next them in the open file window. The aforementioned tools only convert to X and SGM.

    Hi Sodeem,

Thanks for the interest in getting whms into Blender.

You can get all the tools you need at the link from the post above. This about sums it up. Convert your whm to .x format then import the .x file into Blender.

Here is the link with the whm to x converter:

The latest version of the tool (3.0) is here:

Important!!! Once your .x file is ready, open it in Notepad and save it.

The stock .x importer for Blender can only load one mesh at a time. Use my custom script here that allows you to append multiple directx8 meshes in a file into your scene.

Post if you have problems. Have Fun

Another thing. These tools have only been tested on Blender 2.42A. Also, you may want to try the example files first to make sure everything is set up right.

    Cracked it!
Iv been trying all day to "open" these files with Blender as per the instructions with no luck. Your last post, Mudflap, said the magic word: "Import". I guess iv been over looking the obvious. Im a complete novice to any kind of Moding, so i tend to follow tutorials to the letter and sometimes fail to fill the logic gaps more expiernce folk do without thought.

Anyway, thanks a lot for the help to both you and Gorb.
