Not saying it's bad.. but i think you're arguing the wrong thing to meBesides, we're not just talking campaign here. And i do believe things were differnet on the eastern front compared to the eastern one :P
Campaign is not the biggest problem if relic decides to make an eastern front expansion. The problem occurs as an eastern front campaign featuring the Red Army and a new arsenal of weapons naturally will be accompanied by a Red Army faction in MP. Therefore Relic has to figure out how they can incorporate this faction without creating major problems regarding the historically accurateness of the game (example US and Soviets fighting together in Normandy).
As some mentioned, they could simply give the players the option of choosing whether they want to play eastern front (Red Army vs a German faction) or the Western Front (US and Brits vs Wehr and PE).

... That made me think about the ToV campaigns. It didn't seem like a PE campaign was incorporated as the Tiger Ace only consisted of Wehr Tigers and the Falaise Pocket mostly consisted of Wehr units along with ACs (first mission only) and Luftwaffe Ground Forces.
Yes, as I said:
US and Brits vs Wehr and PE
and
Poles and the Red Army vs Wehr and PE
or
some "Guardia" and the Red Army vs Wehr and PE (2 Soviet factions vs 2 German factions)
It can be a first real standalone expansion ^_^

@Dr.Evil: I've had the same thoughts on that as well, and i simply think for several reasons that the eastern and western front will be kept completely seperate. Even to the point of possibly creating new axis factions.
@Cossack: How would it be a real standalone faction if all it offered in part was the old axis factions ? I think a better choice would be to offer up some Ostfront division vs the Red army, and then some grossdeutschland regiment or sturmdivision possibly vs the Guards.. I mean the germans have plenty of weaponry still to be seen
@Imperial Dane: About the Grossdeutchland division, I think it is very plausible that this unit in incorporated especially since it one of Wehrmacht better Division. About the Sturmdivision (you mean SS right?) I think we will never see a playable CoH campaign faction listed as "SS" even though several units such as the 10th SS Frundsberg Division consisted mostly of non Nazi conscripts and unemployed. But then again relic might also choose a lesser known division similar to the the 346th Infantry Division in the Falais Pocket Campaign

And I do not see need for a few new German faction. Russians fought against the Wehrmacht and the Waffen-SS (PE for me).
I think in a next addon we can have only a few new units, and/or possibly Free French Forces (for Allies) and Italy (for the Axis), a campaigns in Italy 1943 (?) and in France 1944.
What do you think about Operation Dragoon?

Also the Grossdeutschland division was not just one of the better divisions, it was the best alongside the Panzer Lehr, getting the best equipment, and was one of the few divisions to actually have Tiger tanks directly attached to it if i am not mistaken. (Correct me if i am though)
Though of course there are plenty of options i imagine seeing as there were more Wehrmacht forces on the eastern front
@Cossack: Technically the entire armed german forces where the wehrmacht :P In any case, as far as i see it, those two were for the western front, not the eastern front, where i imagine there might be some differences. Plus it would also allow them to do some new stuff there and incorporate some other german weaponry.. like the Panzer III ! :P
Besides, it would also probably be easier balance wise that way if they just started out with 1 on each side, and then added more in another expansion.
And not sure about those options you mention, i think they'll go for something bigger than that.. that is.. The eastern front
There are so many elite divisons to choose:
- From Heer we have Panzer Lehr Division, "Grossdeutschland" Division, "Brandenburger" Division, Fuhrer Begleit Division, Fuhrer Grenadier Division, Reich Grenadier Division "Hoch und Deutschmeister", "Feldhernhalle" Division and probably more.
- Then you have the 1st - the 12th + the 17th of the SS Divisions being regarded as "elite" and the very rare SS Fallschirmjäger battalions, designed by Otto Scorzeny, was also indeed something special.
- Luftwaffe also had their two Hermann Goering Divisions also referred to as "elite". Of course not to forget about all the Fallschirmjäger Divisions.
Grossdeutschland seems however as a very plausible alternative as they appear as "the Panzer Lehr of the Eastern Front" and was indeed equipped with the a tiger I battalion which was among the most successful Tiger units of the war. Therefore I would not by be surprised if Grossdeutschland shows up in Ostfront with their fancy uniforms and tiger I tanks, perhaps even under the name "Kampfgruppe (Gross)Deutschland" :P
Lets also hope you get your Panzer III, but for god sake I need my "Stummel" Puma :P

Because the skirmish games might have weapons that weren't used in 1942 if we kept the current set? We have Pershings in Normandy!

I wasn't talking about timelines.. If i understand what you are talking about.. But stuff like the geschutzwagen weren't on the eastern front..
I am not talking 100% accuracy and such.. But i'd like for things to at least try and stay on their respective fronts :P
And i suppose we are arguing because even though we have a lot already.. there is much to add still
