    Killing Floor (2?)

Is out on the 14th May on Steam and is 25% off on Steam and can be bought at about 11 quid.

The trailer looks good although the weapons felt...odd to me. The 6 player coop idea is sound and they did it well in the Ut2004 version! For a tenner this could prove a worthy distraction and zombie-kill fest.

Is anyone else contemplating buying it?

I'm not surprised. Anything within three feet of you seems to end up full of knife shaped holes.

Eh, the trailer doesn't have me sold. The chainsaw bit in particular looks a bit....robotic, for a lack of a better word. He just puts the weapon forward and zombies just...die, no real animation, no real interaction between the weapon and the enemy. I hope there are actual objectives and things to do aside from mindless zombie killing, because if not I might ultimately pass this up.

If you are a fan of Red Orchestra, you need to buy this. It's being published by Tripwire Interactive. Any of the profits made here will go towards the project they are working on at the moment.

It's a non linear setup. You run through a map, and every minute or so a wave will come, and you have to hold up and move if you'd like. There's a "shop" where you can buy new weapons and such... doesn't seem too great to me. It is pretty robotic, I played RO and it's an all around good game, but it's very old and robotic, outclassed when it comes to animations. The company just seems to leave out smoothing out their game.

Yeah and it was great fun as a UT2004 mod so a graphical uipdate with new content and features is certainly worth my 10 Briteesh pounds I feel.

L4D is the same by your analogy. You run through a map and get assaulted by waves. Just in KF you get more indepth character progression and gear. These games are old, ut2004 was released when? Same with RO - both MODS released a while ago.

Also - what do you mean by outclassed? That statement doesn't work unless you compare it to something!

I know I'll be buying this up, though that's because I trust Tripwire as a developer. I don't know what to expect, though I have a vague idea (haven't played the mod either). It's really cheap regardless, so it's not like I risk being disappointed.

PS: you can never have kill enough zombies!

Given that I'm still enjoying L4D, what incentive is there for me to get this? Do you get to be zombies or is it just a gunfest?

Looks nice, but... I'm pretty happy with valves efforts, so what are the selling points of this?

It's actually scary. You don't have a hud, ridiculously small amounts of ammo, it's way darker, and the "special" zombies get more numerous and dangerous the more rounds you play. Lots more chaos than in L4D.

Oh. Help feed my friend buy it. Plus more money to tripwire means GAME 2 will be even better.

Supposedly Valve took some inspiration from the mod iteration of this. So, theoretically, if you enjoy aspects of Left 4 Dead, you most likely will enjoy this.

I found the UT2004 mod quite terrifying. It was meant to be played as a team but because I could find no servers I had to try and solo it and there are just too many on nom nom nom brain shufflers.

I pre-ordered this when it came up on steam and I can't think of a real reason for doing so. I guess I'm a sucker for slow-mo zombie genocide

No, Red Orchestra fans don't need to buy this. There are other ways to honour TWI's work financially, and if that's supposed to be the sole purpose of such a purchase, then why buy at a discount price?

With that out of the way, go for it if you enjoy those monster shooters, preferrably after trying and enjoying the UT2004 mod. It has to be noted that TWI are one of the few guys who don't use Steam to rip off customers from non-US regions, more power to them!

When they hinted an upcoming announcement, I'd hoped for something related to a possible RO successor. Once again I had to learn not to get my hopes up

As I said before, this was an interim project. They are still working on the second game they let us know existed a year ago. If you're a fan of Red Orchestra, pick this up simply because any money earned from this will keep the dev studio open while they work on the next game that is already underway.

Also, Infidelicious' friend works there and we'd like it very much if you bought the game so he has food for the next week.

Don't mean to interrupt this incredibly moving and heartwarming tale, but Tripwire finally gave us a name for their real next title: RO-Heroes of Stalingrad. Now everyone can be happy, even me

Getting back on the subject of Killing Floor, I am somewhat intrigued.
I have not played the Unreal 2004 mod but unfortunately spent the 50$ on Left 4 Dead which turned out to be an utter waste of money for me. The tiny arsenal plus the waves of identical, contrived zombies (with the exception of the 5 special characters), repetitive and uninspired gameplay with or without friends bored me to tears.

Killing Floor seems to have a better atmosphere, more varied weapon selection, more enemies and a much more attractive price. I'd consider purchasing it, at least.

As a vivid fan of red orchestra '( in fact we are top of the roladder..for now..sorry couldent resist ) me and some clanmates pre-ordered allready. Also..yay on the news on RO2. It might screw up their PR plan for KF...but anyways...there is a wiki on KF and everything sounds really fun. 12+ ? weapons, 6 player coop. I still i reserv judgement till i have played it. But, regardless...a game studio that came from a mod now making a ex-mod a "real" game..iam all for that. Plus the devs are very active almost allways in their and steam forums wich makes it even better.

I've just been researching a lot more into this, I believe I am going to download the Killing Floor mod because from what I've just been reading it seems pretty fantastic. I'm glad I made this impulse buy because it promises quite a bit.

Now to find my UT2k4 disc.

Just bought it myself for $15. The game looks good even though i'm not expecting anything to wow over about for such a cheap price.

I watched some gameplay footage just right now, one entire team got wiped out by 1 zombie in like 30 seconds. Insane.

Apparently, the difficulty was on average and the players were the developers themselves with some game reviewers.

  26. #26
I'm still on the fence, but I'm losing it...on one hand I like left 4 dead and the coop nature, but on the other hand it's rather....bland in looks? (compared to left 4 dead anyways). But 6 players coop sounds fun...and the gamplay looks solid...

It looks very solid imo. And deep too. Plus it has exotic weapons like crossbows. Overall looks great. Sucks that its on steam. I dont exactly have the means to get it . But hey, I always find the way. Im glad thats its on UE2.5, and its still looks good. But zombies with rocket launchers? Sound abit weird to me.

Frankly, Kane935, I find the idea of zombies with rocket launchers no more far-fetched than the idea of zombies themselves. :0)

I thought it looked pleasant enough. Seeing the maps revamped from the original was AWESOME. Like old photos digitalised

It looks budget certainly, but L4D spoiled us. Also I didn't find L4D anything new - it looked like a source game, which it was, and nothing really more.

    Please. Be. Done.

*edit* And just noticed its jumped up from "approximately being released in 1 hour" to "approximately being released in 2 hours" :'(

Well, here's hoping that this timer is the right one. In the meantime, you can add "Trizzdog" to your friends list on Steam. I'll be playing with select friends off the bat, but I'm sure I'll be looking for people to play with in the future.

Just saw you go on it Trizz, thank god for Steam ;D

*edit* It's sweet, just played a short solo game on normal to get the feel of it and its just so much more playable than the mod, everything looks and plays fantastically.

I highly recommend a purchase it is worth it. Damn the Patriarch as well, he took me out while I was dealing with Clots.

Played a good few rounds of this. It's pretty much one big gore-wank so don't expect a deep game, but more of a goofy time killer. I've been developing my Commando perk, the Bullpup is a killing machine but a little dry, and I find myself sniping with a pair of handcannons.

Maybe it's important on higher difficulties, but welding seems a little pointless. More often than not somebody will weld all the doors into the room anticipating a mighty defense, but we end up standing there for ten minutes while they break the doors.

Anyway just giving the heads up that this is less tactical and survival and more arcade-shooter (one of the problems I had with L4D).

Play online, with 6 people, on "Normal" or higher before jumping to this conclusion.

Yeah, if this is anything like the UT mod than you're doing it wrong. I should know, I was the designated door welder on the cabin map tasked with holding one of the doors so the rest of the team had an extra 30 seconds to deal with the other zombies.

Welding doors can be useful if you're going for mobile defense, stopping them for a while - having them nip at your heels is pesky.

Also if you weld doors you can get them to amass outside and when they break it a few well placed grenades vaporises a large chunk of a wave

So, my friend and I preordered this yesterday and spent all day lamenting the lack of game-being-out, but we got an hour in once it did come out.

Besides the online connectivity issues (yes, ports open, yadda yadda), the game is fantacular. It's deliciously arcadey but without being overly so. I'll be staring at Trizz's name and swearing when I get "Failed to Connect" for a while yet

Just got off a session with four friends. That was a BLAST!

I actually like this more than L4D in many ways, the greater variety of enemies and weapons, as well as being able to play with more people, really pushes the game up in my books. Awesome fight on the Farm map, we all holed up in a room with only one door and welded it shut. This was around five rounds in so we all had decent equipment. Just sat there listening as the horde accumulated outside and started bashing the door down. When it finally gave we all tossed grenades and let rip into the next room. The enemy counter went down by about 40 in seven or eight seconds. We actually managed to last most of the wave there, before breaking out for a dash at the trader. We tried the tactic again on the seventh wave, it didn't work. A pair of Fleshpounds can really ruin your day.

Oh and something else that's good about the game:

"I'm tryin' ta heal yer not shag yer!"

I have no problem with God, I just can't stand his fan club.
