D DAY: UTAH BEACH...[updated to v2.42]... ...[TOV and OF]

  1. #51
v2.41, had some gameplay issue and now its resolved.

v2.42, I worked on gameplay for 2 days until I got it perfect.
This will be the final gameplay engine for v2.5.

I was successsful in programming where the tanks go without scripts.. And this will feel like D DAY.

v2.5 will get more color map updates. I just had to find the right gameplay action for this map. Found it.

You can beta test v2.42 in reply #1.

Many of fixes everyone asked for are included in this version.

    Fixes like wider roads
    more detailing
    harder for Germans
    Bigger tanks on/off beaches

More tank traps-there is tank traps that cant be crushed on beach and in the farms. I'm not sure arty can take it out. Awesome eye candy.

    More emplacements

Allies AI send tanks and trucks, but not too many
Paratroopers respond the way they are suppose to. Rangers do what they are suppose to. More riflemen on this map. Got rid of AT gun spam. And hopefully the Rocket tank spam. Will see strategic game play action.

    Less fencing
Relocation of center Axis HQ away from VP
    Repositioning of Axis VP
    Better trenches
    Howitzer for brecourt
Beach howitzer to pound drop off zones.
More ways out of backside Axis, etc.

And I put a couple surprises.

Recommend to play with Germans/Allies on normal. If you want buttkicking play them with hard AI for Allies.

I took special care to distinguish this map from all the rest.
There will not be any wild AI all over map.

It will play like a frontline beach map. Push and pull.

I have a lan party in two weeks time so I'm hoping we''ll give this map a good going over.

Thanks for putting in all this effort Luckylegs it is much appreciated.

Dellboy, I think you'll like it alot. I pretty much put almost 1 year into this map. Many of the changes were a result of you guys. You will be surprised how the AI reacts. A result of me. I'm not sure how other people react. Which will make it a great multiplayer map. I played last night v2.42 and it was the the funnest thing yet.

Its just amazing how the frontline tanks lead the charge in a field. Should play like a movie. And then brecourt fires all she has. Oh that field battery!!!!!

Gonna download and give this a shot tonight some time. Looks impressive man.

Bink, the best thing about this map is fighting in a field. 70% of the map is a big farm. I like to roll in an axis tank with 2 sqauds behind me once AI get a foothold. And push them back. Playing by yourself means AI push the other side.

Arty from brecourt is mean stuff.

    Field battles rock?

I hope they show the scene where Shermans come rolling in. Then play Utah Beach v2.42. Bink how'd it go?

The map has a landscape like this movie clip.

Here is the trench BOB first battle. Looks like brecourt.

I started a game against an all easy US opponent a few hours ago, couldn't get in a game last night like I wanted. I'm still in the middle of it atm, using this difficulty to explore the map. I like the changes a lot. Right now the biggest difficulty is trying to manage with the units I start with vs max pop the stock game has.

I'll chime back in if I spot any other wierdness. Will probably play as US next.

Good to see the map has come this far Lucky.

Maybe I will get my Beta 3 out in a wk or so.
Might not play as yours, but seems fairly good.

    Well done.

Oh and I love the Axis Artillery gun. Would love that for my Pointe Du Hoc map...love it.

Thanks lil mat. I have always wanted to try your map but co0uld not find the sga version that will run with the current patch. I could design you one if you want.

I have a plan for a new map that is infantry and light vehicles very low resources. New idea based on an old game called blitzkrieg.

I released a 2nd beta for 2.301 quietly and was only .sgb

I will look at doing and .sga for beta 3 later, but will only be for 2.301. Have not worried about TOV, with all the threads I have read, I'll wait till things get easier, and as such I have more maps to do with 2.301.

Where did you get the axis Howitzer?

It comes when you get the 2.5 patch. Mat you will have to update sooner or later.

I completed my Allies game today after having done the Germans. I don't know what else you have planned design-wise for 2.5, but 2.4 plays fairly well. If you're still tinkering for the 2.5 release, I'd like to offer a few suggestions:

    1. Perhaps a few more trenches. Thoughts on placement: One or two near the two AA flak batteries in that middle farm area, and perhaps something near the new LZ by the church, but in the middle of the field in front of the German base at position 4. I like the trenches you already have for the Germans by their bases, but certain stretches (not necessarily the trench openings, I think those are fine) could use a bit of widening.

My only reasoning for that is when I do turtle, I tend to like to line the interior of those trenches with sandbags to offer a bit of extra cover. Same sort of thing for the Howitzer emplacements (though with those, dirt slopes up near the walls so sandbag placing is kinda weird, but still works). No issues with the concrete ones by the beach, since they offer heavy cover.

    2. Like the placement of those two pantherturm AT bunker things. Wondering if a few more might be cool. i.e. If you had a few more covering the roads just off the beach for when the Allies just begin to destroy the forward beach defenses, and make their way inland. I figure you probably wouldn't need one near the Allied beach opening that's just infantry passable, but near the other three roads might be cool.

Bink, I have to be careful from here on out. Any slight change in territory or markers will goof up AI perfection. What I have planned is maybe reworking of beach bunkers and finish the roads and the backside axis base.

Yeah I could add in something for allies howitzer.

    I'm sort of screwed.

I dont even know if it goes any farther than this.

Awesome Lucky. Can't wait to try it out. Also, good luck with your job search. A lot of us are feeling and sharing your pain in that department.

Awesome map lucky I gotta say I am very excited and loving the map.

  19. #69
Ditto. Just downloaded this and have tried it a couple of times as both Allies and Germans. Definitely a lot of replay value here.

Also noticed that it works fine with the Blitzkrieg mod (but not with Normandy44).
