The start game button will be greyed out when you try to host if no one else joins the game. Once someone's joined the game, and everyone's checked the OK box, only then will start game be lit up.

Can you post a log from http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt please?

    Nothing obvious there.

Try using msconfig to shut everything off in your startup tab, see if that helps.

I used the MSCONFIG to disable all items in the startup tab, no change. If I try to host, my game shows up on the list, but, anyone who tries to join gets "Host Not Found" error message. I get the same message if I try to join a MP game.

You need to make sure nothing's blocking your ports. It could be DirectX installed improperly. Try start>Run... type DXDIAG and click ok.

Go to the network tab, and look for any errors.

Can Host but nobody can Join

It was already hard to Host a game.. Only once after every System Restart i was able to host one time a HW2 game. If i shut down HW2 and start it later without System reboot i was not able to host anymore. Client sits behind a Router (192.x.x.x). No Firewall on Router or on Client. DXDIAG Test is all fine. People can see my host with proper Ping (i mean not Ping 999) but cant join it. Of course i use HW2 with Patch 1.1. Router is a Windows 2002 Server configured as NAT. Client is XP Pro with SP2. No Viruses Trojans or other Bugs.
I did also a complete new installation of HW2 and Patch. Still the same problem.

The only System Changes i did in the last few days was a totaly remove of the P2P Network Software.

The only work arround for me is to unplug my web and gameserver and get with my client a puplic ip to Host a HW2 Game.

This issue is new, starts before 3 days, and i have no idea how to fix it. Any Ideas ?

    Cheers Scari

You need to forward the proper ports on your Win2K Server to the client XP pro machine.

hey, i know someone asked this earlier, but im pretty sure the answer either a) didnt apply to my router or b) was inadaquate for my router.
I need the source and destination IP's (i would guess i would be the destination, although id also prolly need to make it bidirectional)
for the specifics, here's a screen (posted elsewhere) :

im really not wanting to do a dmz, but i may have to...

polaris... I think you're looking at the wrong spot on your router.

The source will be whoever you're playing against, and the destination will be the IP of your computer.

Probably better to look for a simple port fowarding screen.

You can't have multiple clients connecting from behind your LAN to online play.

sure you can, but you have to get each comp a conection to the net.
    ...
    i think thats right...

that doesnt make any sense... if each comp on a network has an internet connection, why wouldnt everybody be able to log into gamespy? is it because each comp needs a seperate non-local IP address?

    Interesting ^^

    To make it clear

If i connect to a open host from outside, my friends computer in the Lan and i can log on in that host both with Lan IP's and routet... No problems ^^ But if i do the host with the router setting i descript last post, my friend cannot login but all others outside can. My friends PC in the Lan see my Host with Ping like from outside (example ping 0.045). So he doesnt see it with lan Ping. The router or gamespy cant handle twice connections Lan and Public IP's at same time. I think its more a router issue, but i am not sure. Maybe its just a additional configuration i need to do... but which one or what?

    Cheers Scari

    Hi,
I have a problem when I try to join or host games using TCP?IP & gamespy, it says "Connecting to game", before saying "Host not found" or "Connection Unavailible."

I've read numerous threads which say to open or forward your router ports.
This is where I'm confused. How the heck to I open/forward my router ports?
I'd really appreciate it if someone would tell me how to access my router ports.

ok, since i see this stuff quite a bit, im gonna help out and use my comp for an example.
    requirements for this method:
    1) a router with a DMZ (demiliterized zone, if youre unsure, check your specs and help files)
    2) a computer firewall (i use norton. dunno how mcAffee works. whatever you get, make sure you can trust your comp's livelyhood with it)
    now on to the procedure:
    1) setup your comp firewall
    2) set your comp up on a static IP
    3) set up that static IP on your DMZ
if there are questions beyond that (ie "where the heck is the static ip buisness?"), id be glad to help

Ok, i did some research on router ports, and found out how to forward them. So far I've forwarded these ports, but the game still does not let me play MP. Is there anything else I have to do?

    -6073 (both)
    -6500 (udp)
    -2302 (udp)
    -13139 (udp)

Uberjumper - I need some help

I want to be able to host hw2 games on one of my friend's comps.

My fried has an ewire dsl modem with Bellsouth Dsl. I found some forums, but they didn't really help me. I know I need to open those 4 UDP ports mentioned earlier in the ppost, but i'm not sure how to do it from the configuration menu.

It says (under some firewall options thing):

Allow individual application(s) – Choose the application(s) that will be enabled to pass through the firewall to this computer. Click ADD > to add it to the Hosted Applications list.

You can specify ports there. Is this the place I should go? I tried opening the ports specified (the 4 mentioned), but it didn't have any effect when i went into the GS lobby and tried to host - people still couldn't come. Yes, i checked to make sure i was allowing UDP, the correct port numbers, etc. Is there some special thing I have to do with ewire dsl modems? :werd:

Here's a screenshot (censored of course)

    Help me!

    JediMaster:

After looking over the screenshot, try to turn off max protection and put it to individual programs then add HW2 to the list. should work. i dunno much about XP but i think it should work.

you might try going to exceptions in MS firewall, and adding hw2 as a program...

btw, its not a good idea to have 2 firewalls on the same level

    uhh.... not working!!!

okay my dad controls the router and he put me in the router's DMZ zone bank which mean DeMilitarized Zone and means i'm not protected by router which blocks the ports i need. could the router still be blocking me even tho i'm in DMZ? BTW i forwarded every port suggested ( i think i mighta missed one dplay port.) lemme check that. also running McAfee. not missing any ports i got 6073, 6500, 6515, 2301-2400, 3783, 13139, 6667, 80, 27900, 28900, 29900-29901. Uber or anyone for that matter: HELP!!!!

BTW router is Linksys BEFSR81 v2 i believe. i know it's the BEFSR81 not sure on the version tho. Have contacted linksys and they say it doesn't matter what jack is plugged into the computer from router. just depends on static ip. have contacted mcafee and they don't know about it either.
